Stayed for one night, ended up wanting to leave early due to a cockroach being found in the bathroom. I let the front desk know about it and all they said was "sorry"... I understand things happen and bugs get in but be a little more understanding than just saying "sorry" and then walking away. Offer to do something about it.... We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. It was a basic Best Western and pretty busy. It's a little old and could use an update but I was impressed by several things. First of all the staff. Everyone was SO nice. My son burned his finger on the waffle iron and they immediately got him an ice pack and bandaids. She even gave us a few free waters. So kind. I also noticed they were cleaning the pool in the morning. It seems like a no brained but I'm sure many of these hotels don't get the pools cleaned. This one did! The pool was really nice and had a hot tube and a sauna (which was closed). There's also a game room that you have to pass to get to the pool so prepare for that if you have kids. They ran out of towels but had them filled back up in 5 min. Breakfast was standard but again the staff was super nice. It's always nice to get free breakfast. My kids loved the mini waffles. Very close to the beach and a great place to stay! read more

The hotel itself is nice. Convenient location, nice beds, comfortable clean rooms, decent breakfast, ample parking, generally well-maintained and clean facility. TRIGGER WARNING: DO NOT READ IF YOU BELIEVE YOURSELF TO BE AN ADULT BASED ON AGE AND ALLEGED RESPONSIBILITY FOR CHILDREN. They advertise that the pool closes at 10, to those under 18, and is then adults-only until 11. This is NOT ENFORCED. Since the concept of "parenting" has gone away and all adults must now befriend their own children and cater to the terroristic demands of pint-sized sadists, there are going to be children jumping back and forth from pool to hot tub right up until 11:05 PM when the staff finally tell them the doors are being locked. Because the front desk can't risk a lawsuit by telling the servants of those screaming toddlers that they have to take the kids out of the pool area any earlier, hopefully someone in charge now understands that it is NEVER a good idea to build a hotel with a pool in the middle and subject literally every room in the entire hotel to the reverberating scream-crying of dissatisfied toddlers at 11 PM. The breakfast is better than many comparable hotels offer now. The frozen breakfast sandwiches go quickly, but the desk staff will get more if asked. There are 2 waffle makers, so you can make one or two small waffles without having to make a full-size one and waste most of it. My husband likes to read documents on paper. The hotel theoretically has a "business center" so I sent him down there to print the real estate paperwork he had received via e-mail. He could not figure out what was happening with the computer, so, he called upon the desk staff, who also could not help him connect to print the document. I reconnected their business center to their wifi, ran the system software update installer, did a quick Malware scan, got the 4 pages my husband wanted printed, and deleted the entire contents of the download folder (seriously people, if you check your email at a hotel and click to download your loan application showing your personal info, it does NOT auto-delete when you turn the computer off!! And do not click the link to download the Roblox installer 87 times. Check the download folder after the first time... it was there.) We had the joy of the worst offender in the scream-crying contest being right through the wall from us. Thankfully, they were only staying one night. I was seriously contemplating a trip to WalMart to get all the speakers I could find, stack them against the shared wall, and play techno for the rest of our stay. read more

If you're looking for a place to stay, I would NOT recommend this place, we stayed for 3 nights ISSUES (1) remodeling going on (2) children in the pool pretty much unsupervised day and night, so they were loud. breakfast was okay, says it no smoking but hallways had the stench of smoke. We have stayed at other BW with no problems like this for the money you pay none of this should have taken place. read more

The hotel is clean and quiet. It is about two miles from town. They have adult swim from 10 pm-11 pm. The breakfast has waffle machines, biscuits/gravy,eggs, toast, instant oatmeal, yogurt, coffee, juice. There is a massage chair in the lobby for adults to use. There is a microwave in the lobby for guests to use. There's a game room with air hockey and video games. There was plenty of parking. There was a playground for the kids. Very clean rooms! Large rooms with table, chairs, huge fridge (no freezer), microwave, large drawers, hangers, and luggage rack which I always use. The pool was extremely clean and I did not use the hot tub but many people did. I REALLY appreciated the late hours of the pool especially the adults only hour from 10-11. More hotels should have that. That being said kids having access until 10 is a very generous time for the family. The pool was very warm. Towels were provided so you did not have to use your room towels. I liked that they provided makeup wipes and other amenities as needed. The A/C kept the room clean and we had enough outlets but we always travel with a power bar just in case. They are a dog friendly hotel and there was a lovely picnic spot out back with grass. Best hotel I can remember staying at. Hot breakfast each day with scrabbled eggs or mini omelets and sausages as well as waffles, yogurt, wrapped cheese, bananas, juice, coffee and more! The only downside would be that I did not like the lumpy pillows so bring your own and the beds were 2 doubles not 2 queens. I brought my own pillow and slept great! Wonderful staff. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised after staying here! My family and I were just staying 1 night before catching the ferry over to WI. The hotel seems clean and well taken care of overall. We arrived around dinner time and thankfully there are several restaurants that will deliver as there is no room service. There were a couple things that were out of sorts, I believe our bathtub drain didn't close completely so we had to shove a washcloth in it temporarily. But what I found most enjoyable was the pool area. It looks like you're next to a giant ship! They've done some creative things architecturally to make it fun for kids as well as added some kid-friendly seating options (see pictures). Also, there's a small arcade adjacent to the pool which was a nice diversion. Breakfast was good in the morning, great selection of food and it's another perk of staying here. They have a cardio room but unfortunately I wasn't able to check it out. Pro-tip: if you're catching the ferry and need transportation, you can call local dial-a-ride and it's really inexpensive. read more

First, the positives: Breakfast staff were very nice, hot tub & pool were clean, room was comfy, location is a short drive to anything you could need while on vacation. Now, the not-so-positives: We arrived to an almost empty hotel on a Sunday, planning to stay all week. At check-in we were given a room with a single bed. We have two kids, so this wasn't going to work out very well. I asked for a new room with two beds and was told there was 'nothing they could do to change it.' I'm still not even sure what that meant - if they can't change a room then who could? Very disappointing. read more

We arrive to a 'will be back soon sign.' 15 minutes later, the unapologetic & surly manager eventually arrived. The toilet in the room ran constantly & in order to flush it, you had to take the lid off & manually move the float. Avoid this place. read more

Decided to stay at this place on a business trip because the promotional literature made this place look like this fantastic resort hotel with giant pool, luxurious room and bountiful breakfast buffet. Once I checked in and got a look around, I was a bit disappointed. I reserved a room with two double beds. The beds themselves were tiny, more like a single bed. Mattresses were cheap and springy and pillows were limp. Room itself kind of reeked of stale smoke even though this was supposed to be a smoke free hotel. Room was on the small side but does come equipped with a fridge and a small table where you can work with your laptop. The pool that looked so immense in the pictures was likewise small, my guess is 15 x 30 feet. They advertised is big old wild water slide but it was shut down with no explanation given, they are in progress of working on a "breakfast nook", but during my stay, they laid out the breakfast in an area next to the pool. Pretty standard "complimentary breakfast" with cereal, pastries, fruit and the requisite waffle iron. There is a playground outside if you have kids and it does look like a nice little set up. There is also a suana and whirlpool tub if you go for that. In summary, the place is just smaller than it looks in the pictures. It would be just fine if you only plan to sleep in the room and spend time going on dune rides. One thing it has going for it is the price, 80 bucks a night...I got what I paid for. read more

For the price...I'd expect more. Rooms were clean, but carpet made my crawling 10 month old knees dirty. No window that opens to outside, no fan in bathroom, no elevator. Yikes! WE have always had great luck at Best Westerns, so of course we gave this one a try. The rooms were fairly standard, but clean. The first night we found out how paper thin the walls were. We could hear our neighbor coughing and snoring. The staff we met at the breakfast (which was good) were very nice. Our problems arose our second to last night. People who were not guests at the hotel were using the pool/slide area, despite not having arm bands for the area. There were also teenagers after 10pm swimming, and this was designated adult swim time. The kids were running thru the halls, knocking on doors.... and long story short, I and my husband were threatened with bodily harm by the parent of the kids after confronting them about the door knocking and running off. It felt like something out of Jerry Springer! When reported to the main desk, the girl, who had to be just turned 18 if even, did nothing and appeared like a deer in headlights. I had to tell her to call the manager twice! WE cut our vacation short as we were afraid these people could come back and inflict bodily harm. We were given no explanation as to how non-guests were allowed to come in and use the pool area that one needed room keys to get into. Something smelled rotten. We never got a good explanation as to what happened, despite calls to BW customer service. We were given some extra bonus points and that was it. Never again, if you want a great BW try the one in Grand Haven MI!!! read more

Ludington doesn't have much to offer as far as big chain hotels.. I purchased two nights to Best Western on Expedia for a total of $267.00 (inc tax) pricey for what it was, but mid range for the area.This place suited our needs perfectly. It's a mediocre place to stay, don't expect bells and whistles. There is no elevator, so if you have a bunch of luggage, shoot for a room on the first floor..we happened to luck out and ended up with one. Just outside of our room was a great little playground and a BBQ grill.. There is a small pool with an indoor water slide next to it - great for kids. When we arrived, the slide was out of commission - a big disappointment, but was eventually fixed.. The hot tub was little and not very clean :( The rooms are the typical 2 star hotel style rooms, nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable... standard TV, mini fridge.. The breakfast area was small and insane, I needed a Xanax after dealing with all the vultures down there!! It's as if nobody has seen a free donut before!!! The hotel is kind of stingy on the quantities of food and beverages they put out.. There was a waffle station, which I took advantage of.. The hotel is convenient if going to Ludington State Park - just about 5-10 minutes away.. I'd like to give it 2.5 stars... but not an option.. read more

First, this motel/inn is in a decent location just outside of downtown Ludington and the beaches. Second, if you do not want to climb stairs, make sure you ask for a 1st floor room. I booked through AAA and nothing is said about a lack of elevators. Nothing is said on the Best Western site either. The pool is a decent size and the water slide is fine for kids, nothing great, just fine. The whirlpool is not hot enough. The water should be about 102 degrees and it was about 90 degrees in there. The room, we had a king size bed, was adequate, with a refrigerator and coffee maker. The shower tub is narrow, but the shower head height is great. The toilet seat if low and small, difficult for larger people. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were not. Another problem with the bed was the mattress cover: fitted sheets should fit the bed instead of coming off the corners during the night. The mattress is thick and the sheets are for older style, thinner mattresses. Breakfast is continental, with the addition of waffle makers and hard-boiled eggs. I do like that they had 4 waffle makers to lessen competition for the waffle makers. The breakfast area is adjacent to the pool/water slide and that area is humid, warm and smells of a pool. Fortunately, a couple of rooms next to the food area has tables where you can eat. Now, to nitpick, the labels on the "butter" container should not say "butter" when no butter is available, just some oily spread. The same thing goes for the containers of syrup. Do not say "maple" if the syrup is not maple syrup. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The Wi-Fi was quick, free, although unsecured. The room was slightly noisy at night. I could hear the foot steps of those on the floor above me and occasional banging in the room next to me. read more

This hotel is much cleaner than I expected. We stayed here over Holiday Inn Express because of the water slide. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The downfall is the lack of an elevator. I have a broken ankle, and I assumed there would be an elevator. We had to switch from a suite to a room with two queen beds. read more

The room looked nice. There were some issues with the paint job in the room. The bathroom was clean but we could get very little hot water out of the shower. The shower curtain was a cloth one without a liner so the bathroom floor was soaked after our showers. The bed was super comfortable and very hard to get out of in the morning. The biggest issue we had was our room number. The room number was the same as the area code in the area. We got 3 calls from people that were trying to call out. The breakfast was pretty good. Absolutely terrible experience from the get go. I booked two queen suites back in December 2016 for a 3 night stay in July. July 6-9 for myself and my boyfriend and then a room for my parents as well. I used Hotels.com to book and reserve the rooms with the pay when you check in rate. I received the confirmation numbers back in December as well for our rooms. After a 7 hour drive I get to the hotel on July 6 to check in and upon check in was given a standard room with two double beds. Not what we had reserved and booked almost 7 months ago. I mentioned this to Tyler and the female working the front desk at check in and was told they don't receive any type of room reservation from hotels.com. I showed them the reservation numbers and confirmations for the rooms and dates. They then told me they're all booked up for the night but if we wanted the room we had originally booked the following night we could have it for the going rate of 220 per night... more than double what we had it reserved for. I asked to speak to a manager and was told she wasn't on the clock and the staff aren't allowed to call her while she's off the clock and I could wait until the following day to talk to her. It was worse than pulling teeth to get a room discount and at that they didn't even want to offer what we had the reservation for. The manager did allow us to move into the rooms we had originally booked, didn't apologize or offer anything besides a small discount. Just wanted to blame hotels.com. Upon check out we weren't ever asked how are stay was or to come back, extremely rude and inhospitable. I've been staying here since it was the super 8 splash park in, so about 16 years and we come up at least once per year. I do believe this will be our last stay ever here at best western. Worse possible customer service and experience I have ever had. read more

We asked on 5 occasions the someone make the, left alone in the room, barking dog stop and nothing happened. The dog barked all day and in to the night. The last night we stayed, between the barking dog and the children running and screaming, in the room above, if there had been a vacancy near by, we would have left. And this was after midnight. Also, for the price we paid, we expected breakfast to have healthier choices. The facial tissue in the room was barely a grade above sandpaper and sheets that actually fit the mattress, without coming off every time one rolls over. And who has, a claimed modern room, with a fridge without a microwave? When we checked out, we weren't asked "how our stay was" because the clerk knew, as she was the person who didn't take care of our concerns. We have stayed here once in the past, and had a similar experience, but decided to give you a second chance. This is our final visit. read more

Looking for a hotel for one nights stay, we stopped at this Best Western in Ludington, Mi. Deeply disappointed with the front desk service, so much that we didn't even bother to book a room. Had to wait about 5 minutes for the two workers at the desk to finish their personal conversation before asking if they could help. When we ask the price of a room, saying we were paying cash, we were told it was $139, per night, plus a $50 refundable deposit that would be returned in the morning. I have never heard of such a thing. Why a deposit if we were paying cash?? No business from us, went right down the street to a no chain and had a nice night for $89.00. The best upside to this place is the rooms were clean. The "breakfast" was subpar. One waffle maker which resulted in one long line. The only protein option available were hard boiled eggs. My brother-in-law did say the biscuits and gravy were good. You're better off going down the street for breakfast like we did. Our room had one mirror for the whole suite. Uncomfortable beds. Overall it was a lousy night sleep and frustrating morning. Not worth the money. read more

My second stay February 9 2016, was not as good as the first. Check in with Breanna was quick and she was friendly. They don't have an elevator so when I was assigned room 205 I asked for first floor. No room were available. Breanna said she would help me with my bags. I told her thanks but I should be able to handle it. Got to the room and it was freezing. Someone had switched the unit to AC and that's not what you want when the temp is 15 degrees outside. I cranked the heat up and within an hour the room was comfortable, if not too warm. I spent the rest of the night trying to get the temp in the room correct. I felt like one of the 3 bears- too hot, too cold. That's the way it was all night/ overnight. Since room 205 is in the front right above the very colorful marquee I got to spend the night with the lights coming into the room. The curtains were not wide enough to block out that light. The room was clean and functional and I will stay there again just not in the front. A very nice gentleman, maintenance perhaps, carried my suitcase downstairs for me on the morning of checkout. I would have said something about my stay during checkout but right after I asked for my receipt, the phone rang and Tammy proceeded to talk to the person on the phone. She did wave and said goodbye to me as I left. I was told that they are getting an elevator by the nice man who carried my luggage. I can't speak for any other amenities since I didn't partake in any. read more

The people were very friendly and helpful. The room was filthy! I had to keep my kids on the bed the whole time because the carpet in the room turned their feet black from all of the dirt. The room smelled like cigarettes and stale air. For the price we paid for one night, I was very disappointed. We had our wedding and chose the Best Western for our guests, which was a large amount of money. From the second we checked in we have been treated poorly. The front desk staff, Jordan and Shannon, were so rude and unhelpful with everything!!! We will NEVER stay here again and hope that management takes care of this before they lose more business.
