Booked a few nights at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Manistee. The location of this hotel was absolutely perfect and for that alone will make this hotel worth it. We had a king balcony room on the top floor. Our balcony didn't feel the most secure, so I never really spent time on it, but my husband enjoyed it. The hotel was so close to the public beach and even had its own mini beach with sand near the outside bar. We were really impressed with the beach bar and the homemade sandwiches! The biggest disappointed was for the money we spent for the long weekend, we were not treated as a priority. Early on during our stay, our first full day, I accidentally broke a bottle of wine (fell right out of the fridge!). My husband had been contacting a rep from the hotel via text, as he's a honors member. He let them know about the broken glass, and asked if someone could come and pick up. After acknowledgement from the staff we came back 6+ hours later and it still wasn't cleaned and all the cleaning staff had left for the day and a very disgruntled employee was asked to tackle it. She clearly did want to help, and didn't. She never came back to the room. It took until the next day for someone to clean the broken glass from our room. Talk about safety hazard! Would I stay again? Maybe. The location is what is so great, but for the price I might try to stay in a higher end hotel. The staff really need to be trained in customer service. I have stayed at hundreds of Hampton Inns across many years of travel, so I have many points of comparison. The front desk people are very rude and do not help with any issues. They have a flippant attitude. As a Lifetime Diamond member I expect a much better interaction with the front desk staff. The initial attitude and the ongoing "don't care" attitude of the front desk staff (day and night) needs to be vastly improved. The overall hotel is very nice, the on site restaurant and staff were very good. read more

Everything about this hotel was amazing. They have 3 levels with rooms, a top floor with a restaurant, a pool, an exercise room and a patio with a bar facing the beach that has multiple fire pits with seating. The staff were all friendly and made our experience that much better. The room we stayed in had 2 queen size beds, I didn't love the sheets but you can't be too picky with that at hotels. This hotel is fairy new, so the wear and tear of time hasn't had any impact on the hotel. Being so close to the beach was also another positive factor of this Hampton. read more

Almost a perfect hotel. The room was both nice and clean. Breakfast featured good bacon, good sausage, and good omelettes. There's a pier that is only a modest walk from the hotel. If you walk to the end at night, then turn and look back at the shore, you'll behold an array of colors reflecting off the water. Really the only nitpick we had is the use of a sliding "barn door" for the bathroom; there's a gap that leaves the occupant without total privacy. A normal door is much better. p.s. Per Merriam-Webster: The exaggerated use of literally is common and surprisingly old: evidence of it dates to the mid-18th century. Despite custom and history, phrases like "literally raining cats and dogs" and "books literally flying off the shelves" greatly irk many people and invite more criticism than understanding. read more

I've always thought of Hampton Inns as clean, reliable places to stay when you're driving somewhere and can't make it all the way. Arrive late, check out early. I've never considered Hampton Inn's as a "destination" property or a place I'd stay at more than overnight. At the recommendation of friends, we spent the weekend here and were literally blown away. I chose my room (King, lake facing studio) on line and my phone was the digital key. Didn't even have to stop at the front desk. Our room was spacious with both north and west lake views as I chose a corner room. It was also nice, clean, and comfortable. The lake facing balcony was perfect for reading and enjoying all the wine and bourbon we bought with us. Highlights include a pretty decent breakfast. We usually go out but decided to try the hotel's and weren't disappointed. As the hotel is directly on Lake Michigan, the views from the room and just outside the hotel were fantastic. There were fire pits, tons of comfortable seating and something I've never seen at a Hampton before-a bar. There was also an indoor pool and outdoor hot tub which we didn't use. Property is dog friendly and this was not all a problem. I counted at least 10 dogs on property. Good dogs or good owners. Maybe both. Staff is friendly and helpful. A totally perfect stay. I stayed at the Hampton Inn Manistee in August 2025 and had a poor experience. The hotel declined to refund or comp that stay and instead gave me a voucher for a free night that expired within one year. I accepted that resolution in good faith, understanding that offering a future stay was likely less expensive for the hotel than returning my money. About a month before using the voucher, I called the hotel directly--not central reservations--to make sure I followed the correct process. I was specifically instructed to book the room normally and bring the voucher when I checked in so the charge could be removed. At check-in, I was then told I should not have booked it that way--the exact opposite of what the hotel had instructed me to do. The staff said they were working on it. At checkout, they were still "working on it," and I was charged for the room. A week passed without any update, so I called. The front desk said they would notify the general manager. Nearly two weeks later, after receiving no return call, I contacted the hotel again. I was once again told that I should not have booked it that way, that I might not receive a refund, and that the general manager was out with no one covering the issue. The hotel issued the voucher, directly instructed me how to use it, and then blamed me for following those instructions. After multiple requests, management still has not contacted me or provided a plan for reimbursement. This was not one isolated bad experience--it was multiple failures involving service, communication, and accountability. Avoid this hotel. read more

It was beautiful on the beach. Nadine provided over the top service at the desk. The whole hotel was incredibly clean.

We come here off season to use the pool. Our last two visits non registered guests were using the pool. This last visit someone who was registered invited their non registered kids and other family. I understand that kids are loud when they are having fun but the behavior was very intrusive. I understand employees letting family and friends use the pool but not at the expense of paying guests. read more

I was in Manistee for a conference. This was the hotel we were sent to and I was very pleased with it. The staff was great, they were very helpful and friendly. The rooms, restaurant, lobby, and gym facilities were clean and accessible. I was also very appreciative of the personal use items in the ladies public restrooms that were free to use (very thoughtful) I used everything the hotel had to offer as we were there during a winter storm. I really enjoyed the hot tub/pool. The morning breakfast and coffee was great for hotel breakfast. We visited the restaurant each evening and the staff there was great as well. This is hands DOWN, one of the best hotels I've ever been too. The customer service was so good. Our room was spotless and the pool/hot tub was clean and nice. The breakfast was amazing and has such a wide spread to choose from. It's a tad bit pricey but it's so worth it! It's also beach front; and the hot tub is indoor-outdoor! I recently became stuck in the snow right across the street from this hotel, never been in it as I'm local, from experience I knew shoveling wouldn't get it so I called a tow truck. During the hour and a half I waited for the truck two staff members came out in single digit temps and twenty Mph winds to offer help and make sure I was safe and warm, offering to shovel and come in to the hotel if I wished. This was 6:30 am, it really helped my spirts. read more

The rooms and the pool were great! I definitely enjoyed staying here but the one thing I noticed is the breakfast items are never restocked. You have to either show up at/before 8:30 am or find a worker and ask them to bring out food. By 9:00 this is what some of the areas looked like, breakfast goes until 10. read more

We stayed here for the Manistee sleigh bell parade weekend. The building is nice the lobby was very welcoming and check in was quick and easy. The front desk people were very friendly let me know when and where breakfast was and answered any questions I had. When we went to the room it was very spacious and comfortable. We had a room that overlooked the lake and had a balcony. It was a beautiful view. The bathroom was also very spacious and had enough towels for all four of us. The beds are comfortable and the pillows are nice and fluffy. There is a mini fridge but no microwave in the room. Which was fine for us as we didn't have anything that needed heated. I just thought I'd mention it incase anyone was wondering. The pool is a bit small but it was clean and big enough to enjoy. The indoor outdoor hot tub is great. Especially on a snowy night like we had. It was delightful. The breakfast was pretty good. They had a selection of cheese or Denver omelette, make your own waffles (regular or blueberry), sausage, potatoes, oatmeal cereal, yogurt fruits and breads. They had 4 different juices milk, almond milk, chocolate milk coffee and hot water for tea or cocoa. We ate at the restaurant on the 5th floor and the entire staff was Incredibly polite (especially Kirk) and the food was very good. read more

New hotel that just opened in 2023. It sits directly across from the city beach and one side has great views of Lake Michigan. Very modern building, nice decor. Everything still smells new. But dogs are allowed, so we'll see how long that lasts. Room was excellent and the bathroom was well supplied with body wash and shampoo in the shower. Our room had a refrigerator but no microwave. I believe the suites have a microwave. The lobby is nice, there is a small store area with drinks, both alcohol and non. It was $4 for a bottle of Coke. There is a free breakfast and it was one of the best I have encountered at a hotel. Even chocolate milk! The pool and hot tub are very nice. The hot tub is indoor/outdoor and has a separate switch for both sides. They are both open until midnight, which is great. There are gas fire pits that are lit at night and in the morning both. They are very nice to sit around on a cool day. There is an outside bar that they had closed and were winterizing. I recommend this hotel for your special occasions, ours was our 40th anniversary. Best price was at Super.com, $30 less than others. read more

What a gem of a facility & location! The Manistee North Pierhead Light, which from our waterfront room on the 3rd floor was behind a huge tree on a dune, is a steel cylindrical tower, 38' tall w a 9 sided eight foot lantern atop, constructed in 1927. The light is atop a 1,300 foot concrete pier a 1/4 mile from the shore. The sister light is visible from the hotel & a lovely stroll. Dinner was just OK in the restaurant - right there w "bar fare" so can't complain & the widow view was a score. Sunset wasn't very dramatic, a storm brewed up across Lk MI, it didn't rain here but we had a nice rainbow (from on the concrete pier) Rooms are clean & neat as a pun. If you drop something, you feel bad & pick it up! I'm not a fan of the barn door on the bathroom but se la vie, it's a style the designer went w & was a trend. Bottom line, nicest Hampton Inn we've ever stayed in - go have your a.m coffee by one of the fire pits!! PS awesome old school slides in the beach playground! read more

Checking staff did not explain that housekeeping only cleans every 4 days! Had to call daily for towels as they don't leave enough for 2 people for 4 days. Also did not have info in room on tv channels. Called desk and was told to scan the barcode on the desk. This hotel needs to realize that some people do not have cell phones that scan or are tech savvy. On top of that, we weren't told about the scan code for info in housekeeping, tv, etc. when we checked in. At times the hotel seemed to have very few staff and we felt like we were in a haunted building with no info shared read more

Very disappointed in the restaurant. After waiting about 20 minutes to be seated, it took the server about 10 more minutes to return with our wine. She then had to go back and get our water. After not seeing her for almost 40 minutes we decided to leave and asked another passing server how much we owed for the wine. When she had not returned after another 10 minutes, I left $20 on the table and we left. It appears that whoever is in charge of the restaurant has never been in this business before. I booked with Expedia two months ago, paid for my room upfront & Hampton Inn told me they don't have my reservation even though Expedis says the reservation exists. Expedia sent numerous emails which they haven't responded.Left numerous messages with the hotel management with no return call. Beware if this hotel.. they don't honor reservations by an outside vendor!! read more

This place pays its employees really crappy wages while selling expensive and overpriced rooms on Lake Michigan. Recent ads for restaurant lead (manager duties) for 9-10$/ hour. These are poverty wages. I will no longer support or recommend this business for that reason. Manistee deserves better. read more

My boyfriend, parents, and I stayed here over the weekend with some of our extended family for a family reunion. Absolutely beautiful location so close to the water. We spent a ton of time out on the patio watching the sunset each night, making S'mores, and catching up around the multiple fire pits they have. There was corn hole and a swing on the patio as well which was a ton of fun. We were able to walk right down to the lake from the hotel. The spa has a split hot tub, half inside half outside which was super nice for those of us who wanted to be outside while also allowing some of our group to hang out inside out of the sun. The rooms were beautifully done, with high end finishes. We had a water view with a balcony which I highly recommend, the sunsets again were fantastic. In addition to walking down to the water, the downtown of Manistee is within walking distance with restaurants and a lovely river walk. The only downsides and the reason I am not giving 5 stars, is that the hotel just opened. Meaning, the restaurant did not yet have its liquor license and some of the operating procedures were a little slow. They were obviously understaffed in some areas, but management was very apologetic about any inconveniences. All in all it was a great trip and I highly recommend this Hotel. read more
