We went to visit family in Raton and, to be honest, didn't expect much from such a small town hotel. But this Best Western was really quite nice. The rooms were clean and modernized, plus you have an interior door that takes you inside a fully enclosed open space with a swimming pool and huge seating space to hang out in. Breakfast was quite good and the staff were outstanding. This will be our spot from now on when traveling to Raton! read more

I'd say for your choices in Raton, NM, the best Western is worth considering. It is an old hotel, though clean and well maintained, but does show its age a little. Staff was friendly enough, the room has very large (we got the king suite with a sofa bed), and the huge atrium with an indoor pool is very cool- my kids really loved having the pool right there. Workout room is small but serviceable- no water dispenser though. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant- it's certainly not fine dining, but hit the spot and it was convenient to have a bar and restaurant onsite. Overall, a pleasant stay. read more

This place is pretty nice. Two doors to your room. One is access to outside and the other is to inside of bldg. That's a PLUS right there! Check in was easy. Mulligans inside of hotel. That's another PLUS. Pretty good food and food selection. This place is the Nicest Best Western I have actually ever seen. It has an indoor pool as well. Nice souvenir show too. May have to stay again if I'm in the area. It's definitely worth a visit. I don't think you'd be disappointed . read more

This place is super cool and unique as the Best Western chain of hotels goes! Checking in felt like an upscale resort town hotel in the 1970's. Not saying that it felt like an old or out of date place, it felt like some place I went as a kid that was upscale for the era and nothing was done for kitschy hipster cool effect. Hotels in that era had nice restaurant bars where you were expected to dress a certain way to enter and a gift store where you could buy gaudy jewelry, sterling silver spoons with the location name and resort clothing next to t-shirts that said "My grandpa went to Raton and all I got was this dumb shirt" Authentic. The bed was super comfy, even the pillows were perfect! Our room had a door that opened to the outside of the hotel and one that opened to the "Courtyard" but the courtyard in this location is a climate controlled great big covered open area and there is a pool in the far end of the same covered area. The bonus of having 2 doors was at one point just after sun up the sunlight was passing through the peep hole in the outside door and making a prism rainbow on the wall! Raton is a quaint little town without a Walmart or any other big box stores. My understanding is that this was once a thriving little town when the mines were working but since the mines closed this town has become a sleepy little roadside stop on the way from Denver to Albuquerque. The residents have regular interactions with wildlife. We visited a family member who lived in a regular suburban neighbor hood that could be anywhere in the USA and she reported regular sightings of bears, bobcat and mule deer. I had a deer sighting while standing at the reception desk of the hotel and another one in the same neighborhood where the family member lived! Everyone we met in the 2 days we were in town were really friendly and helpful and I would recommend a stop here on any road trip in this area. Stayed here one night just passing through. It was $160/night Which definitely had to do more with supply and demand then with the value. They were sold out. Kudos to the female staff member who found my friend and I adjacent rooms. It's a weird set up here where I had a door to access the parking lot and on the opposite side of the room a door to access the atrium. The bad part is that there's no windows to the outdoors. My window is to the atrium. This is a turnaround hotel. It looks like a motel that Best Western took over and tried to make nice. The decor is okay but there's no getting around that dated feeling with the low ceilings and the outside still looks like a motel. The rooms are nice and clean and even though the place was completely full, I didn't hear anyone upstairs or outside. The beds are good too. The ceilings are very low in the atrium and it's very dark even though the pool is there. It reminded me somehow of that pool scene from Chevy Chase Christmas vacation! read more

My family stayed here on a snow ski trip from Dallas to Colorado. We stayed here several years ago, and we remembered it being a good experience. This stay was amazing. The front desk was very nice and helpful. They genuinely wanted us to enjoy our visit, which we did. We also ordered breakfast to be delivered to the room. The 4 of us, including 2 full sized boys, ordered a lot of food. Our order was delivered on time, hot, as ordered and it was delivered by another staff member that wanted to be sure we were satisfied. We arrived late so we did not use their indoor pool, but other guest were enjoying the pool. It looked like a lot of fun. The hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable. Will definitely stay here again. We got the last room and it was in the pet area. We do not have a pet, but we didn't hear any pets . The room was clean and smelled clean. Absolutely the best customer service we have experienced at a hotel, most especially since all the COVID stuff started. Very pleasant staff, nice comfortable room. Plenty of parking, especially if you are towing a trailer. All the way from reservations on the phone to checking in. It was very nice to have the ability of the restaurant at the hotel. No need to leave hotel and come back. The food was an 8 out of 10, in my opinion. For me to rate that is good as I prefer home cooked meals. I am not big on eating out. The green chili sauce has a good flavor. The breakfast is delivered to room and I think as good as any restaurant breakfast with basic options. read more

From the phone call making the reservation to checking out it was a wonderful experience. Extremely friendly staff, clean rooms (we stayed in a pet friendly room) and even gave our dog a treat at check in. They were helpful parking our truck with a trailer as soon as we pulled in. The breakfast was delicious with excellent green chile to kick it up a bit. They made the stay very pleasant and easy. Only con: the room rate was $174 for the night. I have never traveled with my dog where I needed dog friendly hotel room. My expectations were kinda low, maybe the room might have a faint dog pee aroma I was beyond pleased and surprised when I walked into a tile floored, white sheeted, no aroma, spotless room!! And when they say they offer breakfast- it is a legit full on breakfast- complete with green chili! Turns into a Mexican restaurant at night, which I'm sure is equally good. Traveling through Raton again- I will definitely stay here!! read more

All in all a decent hotel. Quiet during our stay, but the place couldn't have been half full. Breakfast okay, not bad, not great. My only gripe was with the bathtub, as the photos attest. We paid $117 with taxes and for that money the bathroom should have been in better shape. Also the maid service was pretty light; we found clothes labels from some other guest on the floor near the bed. The TV was one of those Ultra HD jobs that strips the cinematic feel from the movies, but that's not the hotel's fault. The remote was in a little bag that they want you to think ensures that the remote has been sanitized. Ha ha. The hallways smelled moldy and the carpeting was dirty. I slept like a rock for a solid 7 hours, so it wasn't all bad, right? read more

When I saw "Best Western", I thought this might be a cheap motel. Boy! Was I wrong! We have stayed here TWICE this year (so far), and have thoroughly loved every moment. From the moment you arrive, you're met with a beautiful, incredibly well-laid out lobby, and friendly front desk help. VERY friendly and helpful! A fun, quaint gift shop sits next to it. The rooms are so VERY nice, with plenty of space, extra-comfy bed, lots of sitting areas, small refrigerator and microwave. One complaint was a rather small television (32 inches), made worse because everything in this hotel is so spacious. The antenna/cable/satellite service they had was not HD, and it was quite annoying to watch. Fortunately, the TV made up for the size by allowing easy access to the HDMI cable and input settings to hook up a laptop. The Wi-Fi service not GREAT, but was good enough to stream from online services in HD on that same laptop. The on-site bar/restaurant, Mulligan's, closes quite early at 9 pm. Our first trip, we arrived in time to get dinner/drinks. The second time, we had to go across the street to Denny's (which was very good, see my review). The food was DELICIOUS, the mixed drinks strong and tasty! They have several different types of beer, on tap, too. A breakfast buffet is included in the price of the hotel room, and opens by 6:30 am. They rotate what foods are served for breakfast, such as eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, tortillas, green chili, and the usual continental breakfast fare (bagels, oatmeal, danish/muffins, containers of yogurt, fruit). There is a very nice, good-sized indoor pool on site, along with a hot tub. The room with the pool is more of a large courtyard (amazingly beautiful area) so it doesn't have the humid indoor-pool "funk". In February, the indoor temperature was quite mild, and the pool water temperature was perfect! There's very nice fitness room that has all the basics for a simple workout, and even allows for space to do "your own thing" such as yoga or Pilates. The price of this hotel is not cheap, by any means. Other hotel/motels in the area can be found for even half the price! However, this hotel is fantastic in most every way, and you would never feel like you got "cheated" or "ripped off". If you can afford it, the Best Western Plus Raton is worth every penny. We won't hesitate to come back again. read more

Best hotel/motel we have stayed in on our 12 day road trip! Room was clean and roomy! No issues. Air worked well. Working fridge and microwave. Bathroom was clean. Was able to park right in front of room for easy unloading. Indoor pool was nice and heated - saltwater too. Kids loved it and it was clean so I was happy. They have a Nice looking bar/restaurant inside. We did not eat there and opted for one of the convenient fast food places across the street. Very impressed And highly recommend! read more

We are on our way to colorado from east texas, we always stop mid way and spend the night somewhere, the hotels are normally mediocre at best, just a place to crash, but not this place. I honestly believe it's nicer than the ski resort we'll be staying at. Room are big and even the pull out couch is confortable. We stopped here after an exhausting day of driving, and what a wonderful find! We asked for a dog friendly room, which turned out to be in a separate wing of the property. My first response was 'oh no, they've stuck us in the old falling down part!' That has happened to us before. But not so - the only difference was that these rooms have no carpeting - what a smart idea for dogs! We hung out in the parking lot with neighbors with dogs, ordered really great Chinese food from Asian Buffet, and just generally enjoyed our visit. One caveat: we heard the best thing about breakfast was the homemade green chile ... but it has a pork base and we're vegetarian, so breakfast was only so-so. But other wise great stay. read more

We stay at this hotel every time we come through town. The rooms are super clean and spacious with a fridge and microwave...so convenient when traveling with our children. The pool is a must to visit when you're here too. The restaurant inside the hotel is awesome too! Great food, drinks, and service! Not much matters after that, but let me just mention: 1.all the rooms doors/windows open onto an indoor pool full of very noisy squeeeeeeling children who slam their hotel room doors as they splat splat outside your window. 2. The room never NEVER got cool. 3. It's a nature hike to the ice machine which is hidden in a second story workout room (really handicap-friendly....) who really cares what the soap smells like, or if there's old coffee waiting to be made if the beds are already occupied. read more

We got stranded in Raton after coming over the pass during a winter storm, and luckily the Best Western had vacancies (a LOT of people doing walk-ins that night). The staff was very courteous and understanding, and worked hard to get me and my family into a good room and brought us a rolling bed also. The bar is great, closes earlier than I'd like though :-) The food at the restaurant is about standard hotel faire and the brisket tacos and pizza were even better than I'd have dared expect. All in all this place saved our behinds; things could have been far far worse. Glad they're there and we'll definitely stay there again if we're in the area. read more
