Booked this through Priceline because it showed it was a 4 star hotel. When we arrived, it looks like it needs to be demolished. Very unkempt, overgrown and pretty sketchy looking (pics attached.) I tried to get a refund and, when confronted that it shows 4 stars on Priceline but 1 star on Google, the host said 'it's a 4 star hotel to us' so...total d!ck move. We've been staying here once a month for over a year. It wasn't the cleanest place but it started getting better towards the end. We stayed there in august and my husband ended up with bites all over his body. We mentioned that there were bedbug's to the housekeeper. She said o ya all the rooms have them. After that we NEVER went back!! I still go to Raton at least once a month but I make other plans for rooming. I want to advise people that there are bedbugs in this motel! It's a clean, comfortable, low-priced room, in a safe, quiet area of town. Our week-long stay at Budget Host Melody Lane in November, 2021, was wonderful! Even though we arrived late the first day, we were happily greeted by our hostess (the owner!). She explained a few things about the room and her hours of availability if we needed anything further. The next day, she was certainly available at the times she said. The room were comfortable, clean, and spacious, with the comfortable king-size bed. There was a microwave and nice-sized mini-refrigerator in the room. The wood decor looks amazing! We also loved how quiet the neighborhood was. A few blocks off the main street, so very close to everything in town, but not "too" close. The "steam shower" is absolutely incredible! A steam room inside your hotel room?! Amazing! Add in the nice-price, and we can't WAIT to stay here again! Now, the TV is very small and does not have HD. The Wi-Fi isn't the fastest. Some people might be caught off-guard as this is NOT a new, fancy hotel, but then again, the price doesn't dictate that luxury. Visitors should not be set aback by the appearance. Enjoy the price. This place is a stand-up, fantastic value in a sea of way overpriced motels. It's a classic, old school motel that has been well refurbished by it's owner/operator. If you need a clean room, nice bed, and a secure location then this place delivers. And somehow they are able to provide a free continental breakfast. Now it does show it's age in a few minor ways but none of them are even close to deal breakers. And when you pay a third of what you would pay at one of those other chain places then you'll forget all about that crack in the parking lot and that small bit of caulk missing in the bathroom. read more

This place has been one of my favorite go-to places for a quick stopover on the way to Colorado from Texas, for many years. However, they have changed management and it just is not the same as it used to be. It's getting old and needs upgrading and cleaning (rust in bathroom, cable in TV just hanging on by a thread, etc). They never got the WiFi to work; this was just irritating since they advertise their WiFi as a plus for their establishment. The management does not speak English very well, so also a challenge to effectively communicate. It's not worth even the relatively inexpensive price anymore. read more

Currently being renovated and under new management. They advertise a free breakfast, but it's currently closed due to Covid (so you can't really blame them for that). However, the rooms are clean and the manager was very friendly and helpful. Rooms include a TV, desk, refrigerator, coffee machine, hair dryer, and a bathroom spread across two rooms. They are also within (sort-of) walking distance of the Amtrak station (they would have gotten a fifth star if they'd been closer). (This was important to me, because I had an Amtrak layover in Raton and had a reservation, but there are no cabs in Raton (yes, really). Budget Host had a room open and were less than half a mile from the station.) read more

Priceline rated it 2 * with an approval rating of 8.4 - a rare score for anything in the 1-2 star class.. and I would concur-- obviously intent on improving that with new carpet in 20+ rooms. Do NOT stay at this motel. This place is run down and the pictures posted do not reflect the condition of the motel and room. This motel advertises as all non-smoking but our room stunk of cigarette smoke. The room was dirty with trash on the floor. First, apologies for writing this review 3 years late; I last stayed here in 2008. But think of it this way: how awesome must a place be to get someone to remember it and write a review 3 years later? Based on other reviews, my sense is management is the same as it's always been. Over 12 years I stayed here over 6 times, always as a stop from Dallas, TX to all points northward in the Rocky mountains. I always eagerly looked forward to checking in at this simple, clean, charming, comfy, and affordable gateway to the Rockies. It's like a slice of 1950s Americana, but only in the best possible ways. For the price ($40 for a single room a few years ago) you get a room that, while smaller than a similarly priced Motel 6, is superior in every other way. It's cleaner. It feels, somehow, just... sturdier and more looked-after. The sweet wood paneling has far more charm and character than any whitewashed drywall. Some rooms even have these awesome, big walk-in tiled showers that are unlike anything I've ever found anywhere else. You should totally ask for a room with one! For some reason, knowing the Melody Lane Motel is still out there brings me some comfort in this crazy world. If you are stopping in Raton, please consider supporting this local business. You'll leave with a smile on your face, ready to climb Raton Pass and behold the mountains! read more

Perfect little place to stop on our moving road trip to Colorado. The man that runs this place was so patient and kind. He very politely fielded all of my anxious questions over the phone, and was welcoming and efficient getting us into our rooms. The rooms were large, the shower was hot, and the beds were comfortable. We had four people a cat and a dog and the pricing was very reasonable in my opinion. The place was quiet, and they even had a parking spot in the lot for our moving truck & trailer. Breakfast included waffles, as promised, and several healthy options including fresh fruit and oatmeal. Overall, the stay was a perfect restful night! read more

Stopped here overnight on our way to N Colorado. I researched before and chose this place based on the reviews. I grew up staying in "quirky" motels. I LOVED this place! Quiet, CLEAN, a friendly owner. Mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer and coffee maker. Great water pressure and heater. Beds weren't plush but not uncomfortable. There's a continental breakfast but we didn't try it. Let me stress that from the outside I wouldn't have chosen this motel. I'm SO GLAD we stayed. The Google, Yelp, and other reviews indicated that this was an otherwise unremarkably honest motel with a helpful owner and low prices. They were correct. This is a nicely clean, old-school get-what-you-pay-for motel. It could have been fashioned during the Mad Men days. This means that you will walk into the rooms and understand that they are low priced and quiet. Around you permeates fresh air that hints of spruce, fir, and pine trees. The motel sits at the north of a town bordering on sleepiness and failure, yet rests in the middle of mountains and beauty. "Sam" the owner is as the other reviews indicate friendly and accommodating. Stay here for him if for no other reason. He even let me park in his covered space! Has to be by far the best 2 star hotel I've ever stayed at. We came in from Houston for company work and reserved our room over the phone. The lady was extremely nice and greeted us with a warm raton welcome. The even sent us to some of the best food places in town that were amazing. Although the knob on there steam bath was broken, we we're still able turn it and use it and boy was it refreshing. DO NOT STAY HERE My friends and I showed up to our reservation. They didn't have any record of my reservation that I made through Expedia. If they would have been full, I would not have had a room. The room was dirty. There was used shampoo bottles in the shower and we found a sex toy under the mattress. This place is a little gem! We needed a place to crash between White Sands & Colorado springs & we found this tucked away on the edge of town. Very clean, very friendly & small pets welcome. The "thermasol" steam shower was the perfect way to unwind & relax after hours in the car! Loved it! Found the Budget Host Inn through hotels(dot)com, as we were looking for a pet friendly place to stay that had enough parking for two RVs. We were not sure if this was going to be a rundown motel or not. We were very pleasantly surprised to find that the rooms and exterior were newly remodeled freshly painted and the bathrooms are extremely nice, plenty of towels. The beds are comfortable, very nice linens, nice heater, fridge, microwave, hair dryer, single coffee machine. The Inn is only about one mile off of I-25, close to the CO NM border. This is a great place to stop and get some very good rest on a long trip. Also, when we arrived with our long trailers, we were met outside by the owner/manager and offered suggestions on where to park, great customer service. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. This rooms are CLEAN which is of utmost importance to me. It is also well maintained. Its a cute little motor lodge tucked away at the end of the historic district. Safe place for your vehicle as it has an assigned parking space right outside your room window. The heater is NOT one of those noisy window units. The room was nice and cozy and we were able to control the temp so we were able to keep it cool and night for sleeping and turn it up a bit for after taking a shower. The staff are very nice and the price...did I mention the price??? Fifty bucks!! Every other hotel charges 65 minimum and I bet they aren't half as clean and comfy as this place. read more

I am very picky a out hotels. In fact, this was my first time in my adult life to stay in a motel bc I generally consider hotels to be a better choice. Anyway, this time I was looking for a cheap, yet clean, place to stay the night. The reviews for this place were amazing so I gave it a chance. I would have never chosen this place just by driving by. The guy in the office was super nice. I got a price of $40/night (with AAA discount) for a two bed room for two adults. The beds weren't the most luxurious, but definitely acceptable for the price. Everything was super clean and well kept. Free WiFi and cable. I will stay here again when in Raton. I deducted one star for the outside noise of people and the lack of outlets for my gadgets, but that's to be expected for an older facility. read more

Stayed there 8-31-13. Appears to have changed ownership so the check in is not as spectacular as before. Nothing wrong just not as great as it was. Rooms big and absolutely spotless. Me and my husband recently stayed at this hotel and we LOVED the hotel. The staff is amazing. Tim was the man who was working when we were there. He was so kind and helpful with everything. He even gave us a 10% discount to eat at K-Bob's. We stayed in a room with a steam-bath. I highly recommend getting a room with one. It was so relaxing in morning and night. The rooms are so cozy. Worst experience of my life! We only went there because of the reviews we read. They put us in their last room and it was disgusting, tiny, bug infested room. Not to mention the wasp nest above our door and the people LIVING in the rooms next to us. We were there for less then an hour and asked for a refund, they refused. The online favorable reviews were right on target. Made a reservation same day and we got a room with 3 double beds (actually two rooms). The gentleman on the front desk was very helpful and friendly - both when we called to make the reservations and when we arrived. This place is a step back in time, but the staff does a fantastic job at keeping the rooms very clean and comfortable. I am very picky about where I stay and will definitely stay here again every time we spend the night in Raton. If I had not seen the online reviews and had driven by here, I probably would not have stayed here. But outside looks are very deceiving in this case. Yep, the reviews were certainly correct, BHML is a retro, no-frills hotel run by some nice folks who pride themselves on cleanliness and sincere respect for their guests. It's at the top of the hill in Raton, so a little farther away from downtown, but quiet. Adorable small NM town. make sure to drive down 2nd Street. I was there in early December and had the whole place to myself. The steambath alone is awesome and a cold shower after was so refreshing! So I suggest BHML to support owners who take pride in their work, are kind and welcoming to their road-worn guests. I gladly left a fiver for housekeeping on my way out. read more

Clean, comfortable, cheap. What else do you need for a quick rest on the way across country to a new home? Oh, yeah, warm and friendly hosts. We had seen a great rate on tripadvisor on my phone, but since we weren't sure how far we were up to traveling, we didn't book it online. They were quite willing to give us that rate but suggested an even better deal. They have a family suite that suited us perfectly (my brother, his young son, a family friend who is like a son to me and me, the only gal). It cost a lot less than 2 rooms at the already great internet rate. I slept very well and am enjoying a nice, free breakfast. I would make myself a waffle, but I have to eat light. The coffee is good and the fruit is fresh. If I ever come this way again, I would be delighted to stay again. read more

Be cautious when calling to book a room! We called over a week in advance and made a reservation for the holiday weekend. However, when we arrived, we were told there was no record of our reservation even though I called en route saying we would be late and the woman said that would work fine. However, despite being informed twice that we were coming, there were no available rooms. The customer before us was also told there was no record of his reservation and was turned away just like us. Scouting through town after a long day on the bike I made this lucky find at the end of town. At first glance you would expect a run down motor inn. In reality it is surprisingly clean to every detail, good TV, big room, and an old fashioned steam bath... cool! read more
