This was my first stay in Aberdeen and chose the Ramkota after having stayed at the brand in Pierre in the past. Overall it is a pretty decent place. Check in was very easy and the woman at the front desk was very friendly. My room had hot water and the AC got nice and cool at night. The fridge didn't freeze what I put in (fortunately) and the microwave worked just fine. Also had no issues connecting to, or staying connected to the WiFi. I didn't eat at the restaurant, but there were always a bunch of cars parked near its entrance, and the locals I was working with commented that it's very good. The only drawback for some could be the lack of elevator. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay. No, it's not a big city high rise hotel, but it for right in to the small town vibe without compromising service. read more

Our room smelt musty and felt very humid. There were cob webs all over the ceiling, the ac unit was not working in our room, the whirlpool was out of order and the pool needed repairs. We talked to the front desk and they said that there was nothing they could do, I would have to talk to management on Monday since they don't work on the weekends. The pictures are very deceiving of the property and rooms. read more

The front entrance looks nice, and the room rates are reasonable, but unfortunately that's where the positives end. Of the multiple rooms our group stayed in, all but one had a noticeable mildew or mold smell. There was visible mold in the bathrooms, every room had broken or loose bathroom fixtures, and the overall cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The pool area also appeared to be poorly maintained and was not as clean or well-kept as expected. The Wi-Fi was very slow, and several of our room key cards repeatedly stopped working and had to be replaced. Based on our experience, the property is in need of significant maintenance and better housekeeping. I wouldn't choose to stay here again until these issues are addressed. read more

This is a decent hotel for the price. Some things need updating for sure but the staff is nice, the rooms are clean, and if you have kids, they would love the pool. It's quite big for a small hotel but very shallow so don't count on swimming possibilities. Count on a hot tub though. They offer free continental breakfast and some items change throughout the week, but there are always scrambled eggs with some kind of breakfast meat. Sometimes they would add additional items such as French toast, biscuits and gravy etc. Fruit selection can be better - only apples and tiny oranges. They also offer free airport shuttle but you have to call from the airport to request it. It will not be waiting upon your arrival. read more

It has been years since I stayed in a Best Western and I was not happy with my last stay, so I was a little nervous; however, it was far beyond my expectations. The lobby was nice and modern, staff was extremely friendly and the room was up-to-date, clean, and comfy. There is also a wonderful restaurant attached to the hotel that has a full bar. In the morning you get complimentary Continental breakfast. The manager welcomed me to the area and showed me the various pastries, hot food, etc. Because of my dietary restrictions, she pointed out that they had wheat bread and almond milk while apologizing for the lack of food for me. I decided to eat a piece of toast, fruit and almond milk which was plenty. The only negative that I could find and the reason for a 4 instead of 5 star is the lack of an elevator. I traveled with a very large suitcase and had to lug it up 2 flights of stairs and then back down to check-out. Again, that is the only negative. read more

You know, I found this hotel to be fine. Maybe they have a new manager or something. But my visit was not like those experienced below. I will say the hotel could use a renovation. That's for sure. But the staff are nice, the room was clean, the price was ok, parking was easy. Location was not easy to find, I think I happened to be in town when some roads were closed. So it took me a while to get there, even with a good old fashioned map. Id stay here again though. read more

This hotel is a converted motel with banquet facilities. Updated recently but very half A$$. Bathroom has mold and holes in the wall. They do some things nice and other things terrible. Go to Quality Inn for 2/3 the price and same room but in a better location. read more

Bathroom had feminine hygiene wrappers in the trash can, the shower stalls had film on them, body hair in the tub area, Bathroom door bottom had water damage marks. Room was stale. We enjoy renting rooms at this hotel for birthdays and other family gatherings. They have a decent pool area that is nice for children to play. We also like going to the hotel restaurant Minerva's..... convenient location and great food. This hotel recently underwent a much needed renovation, rooms and lobby have all been updated. read more

This hotel has been updated and looks really nice. It still needs some updating. The workout room could use a larger space and some dumbbells. It is very outdated. I'm surprised by all the negative comments regarding this hotel because our visit was great. I do agree that it was annoying not to have any conditioner in the room and I had to go buy some. Other than that, our stay was very nice. The pool is fantastic for kids with plenty of space for adults to sit utilizing the free WiFi without worry of getting wet. Our kids are 11 and 13 so we walked across the hall to the bar and could easily watch them through the window with no worries of them drowning in the 3'6" deep end. Our AC cranked up very well the entire time we were there. There was no negative smell that I could detect in our room or the hallways as some have complained about. The beds were of average comfort and the rooms were very well furnished. The coffee in the room wasn't very good but the lobby had free coffee available that I enjoyed and I'm a coffee snob. The best part about our stay was the people who worked there. They were all fantastic from the front desk to the cleaning service to room service to the bar and the restaurant. We come to Aberdeen every couple years or so and I will definitely book this hotel again. I'll stop at Kessler's on the way to pick up a bottle of conditioner first though. read more

The hotel itself is a little older and could use some updates. Our room was at the end of a hallway and we could constantly hear people opening the outside door. Ladies, bring your own hair conditioner, they don't have any (sorry - pet peeve of mine). The only reason I'd go back to this hotel is for the pool. I had my nephew's 10th birthday here and he and the others had a blast! There is plenty of space around the pool for adults to sit and not get splashed. read more

Well...if I have to give it a star to write the review, it will be the only one they get. Check in went fine. We drove around to the back, opened the door, and were greeted by a horrific odor that resembled a college party house on that hadn't had its carpets cleaned since I was in school. The heat and humidity just added to the ambiance. At least we have our room to escape to and crank up the air...we thought. Entering our room felt a little like I would imagine it would be entering the Louisiana Bayou. Humid...Hot...Stinky...nope no gators though. Immediately I went to the ice machine. After holding the button for about 45 seconds it was clear I would find no relief there. Went back to the room and called the desk to find the next closest ice machine and to ask if I was supposed to have a liner for the ice box. Long story short, maintenance was called and they were going to bring up a fully lined and filled ice box for me. We then decided to crank up the air as we were prepping to get the kids ready for the pool. Again, not as easy as we thought. It was already cranked up but not doing a damn bit of good. Call #2 to the desk to request a room change. Resolution...maintenance would be up. Then it kicked in...for about 2 minutes and off again. We waited for 20 minutes at least. Then called again to see where maintenance was. I was told they have many guests and we would have to wait. I explained that I wanted to know how long it would be as I may cancel and leave. He then said he would have him right there. In the mean time, my lovely wife was calling around town looking for another hotel with a pool that may have a room. Price was not a factor. At that very time, she found one...the Ramada. A few dollars more, but it sounded good to us. I then told the guy at the desk we would be down in a few to cancel our room. And we did. This place is old, dirty, smelly, and in need of extreme repair and upgrading. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. By the way...the Ramada is clean, upgraded, comfortable, and very nice! read more

My family stayed at the Ramkota last night for my daughter's 5th birthday party. They have one of the most kid-friendly pools in town with a frog slide, floating lilly pads, water basketball, and a shallow entry that begins at 6" of water. Unfortunately, we happened to be there on a night the pool water was out of balance. My daughter's skin especially became very irritated from it. We checked out very early due to a restless night with itchy kids. I asked to discuss our experience with a manager at checkout. One was not available. On Monday morning I received a call from the hotel manager. He had been out of town on that particular day. He was incredibly caring and understanding. He explained that a piece of the filter had somehow been damaged so they put more chlorine in the pool than usual that day, but it was still within the limits of safe levels. I can see how a young child would be more susseptable to irritation from this, as their skin can be much more sensitive and delicate. I appreciated his call and and his concern very much. He offered to return our money OR to give us a free room at our convenience. I've gone to this hotel many times since I was a kid. I've never had a bad stay there, other than this particular night. Sometimes things happen that no one anticipates or is at fault for. Overall, our experiences here have been very good. And I can't say enough how nice their manager is. Our family has hosted and attended many fun children's birthday parties at the Ramkota over the years :) read more

Room was clean but outdated. Able to walk into room from outside if on first floor, but then wondering how clean carpet actually is if walking directly into room from outside. I understand other rooms in the hotel are updated, we just happened to not stay in one. Room did not get cleaned while we were out for the day. Heating/cooling unit button writing was worn off so we couldn't see what the buttons were for. Pool had slide and play things for little kids including Lily pads to jump on. Also had a hot tub. Again, just need some updating and repair. Not a terrible stay, but would probably choose a different hotel in Aberdeen next time. read more

My family and I reserved a room at the Ramkota on two different occasions, for multiple days at a time. It's very clean in public spaces and in each room we stayed in. Our rooms were updated with modern amenities, too. The pool for the kids and grandkids was the absolute best! There's a hot tub along with large seating areas for adults to relax, too. The restaurant and bar inside the hotel is excellent. We liked it better than other restaurants in town. (Their blackened salmon salad, and they're roasted loaded nachos were superb!) And most memorable of all were their employees: all were friendly and attentive, and conversational. My wife and I now have a couple new Facebook friends to stay connected with, having never met them before. And we live 600 miles away from Aberdeen SD! The atmosphere, the staff, the food, the very kid-friendly pool, and the genuine hospitality is top notch for a small town. If you're just passing through or staying a while, don't bother looking anywhere else in town. You won't be disappointed at the Ramkota. read more

Disregard all posts prior to this year. They redid so much of that place. Before I would have given it a 2. Staff is great. Cleaning crew great. Minervas is a great place to eat and drink. Bar staff is top notch. Much better stay this time and will definitely return. read more
