This was my first stay at a best Western. The first thing that stuck out was their blatant attempts at a green initiative. They let you choose when you'd like to get fresh linens and towels. They also use the brand "Terra Green" for their lotions, soaps and shampoos, which is eco-friendly. The only irony I found was the toilet had the most water usage of any toilet I've ever seen. The bathroom lighting was not optimal. The price was a little more than our range, but included 2 vouchers for breakfast at the Perkins diner next door. As a place to crash for a night on a road trip, it did the job, was clean and presentable. Would reccomend. read more

Okay I was thinking do I want to give a star and i had a real hard time with it. But i think i should give the maintenance guy credit for his service. I was on a business trip to attend a meeting and i thought i try this hotel since it had 3 Stars. What a joke. When i entered the hotel i should have turned around. As soon as you walk in the hotel you can spell a big dog or multiple dogs. I have friends that have big dogs and you can smell it right away when you enter the house. So when you come to Tomah,WI dont miss to go to this hotel. You will be surprised how bad an hotel can smell. My nose burned so bad that my eyes teared for hours. Unfortunately i paid for one night on priceline so i was stuck in this hotel. I asked the front desk if she did not smell this aweful dog smell and she said No. Wow, i guess she is so used to this aweful smell that she dont smell it anymore. After check in i went to a big heavy door and i thought to myself gosh, hopefully there is no more smell. Oh no, when you think it is bad and it can get even worser. Entering the hallway to my room. I smelled horrible septic smell. I saw the maintenance guy in the hallway coming out of one of the rooms. I asked him what the smell was. He told me that the toilet in two of the rooms were stuffed and they had to pump it out. I had the smell all night long in my nose and i was overly happy the next morning to leave this hotel. So if you are not a big fan of bad smells or animal smell than dont go to this ***hotel. It has an aweful smell!!! I almost forget that the outlets in the room did not work. I had to move the bed to get a working outlet to charge my phone and plug in my laptop. Thats crazy. Does anyone check of these outlets work. So i had to switch from charging my laptop to plugging in the nightlight or i would have only the tv as light. This really sucked because i was suppose to write a report but there were only two working outlets. read more

Clean, tidy and nice new looking facility, decent beds and good amenities. Normally this would be an easy 4 star review but my stay was in December so was surprised when I first entered the room to find the A/C on. Thanks for the two hours it takes to warm up the room preventing a weary traveller from sleeping. read more

We had to stay here due to other hotels in the area being booked up. First, how is this a 3 star hotel?! Very displeased overall. We had a pet-friendly room and we were on the bottom floor, next to the ice and soda machines. I could hear people at night using them along with stomping from the floor above us. The room was as clean as it could get with being so outdated and used. The air conditioning was terrible. The toilet's flush was very slow. We had to wait 5 minutes in between using it. It also squeaked very loudly while flushing. Terrible for use at night! The bedding had old stains. The pillowcases didn't even fit the pillows because they were so small and used. There was only a mattress pad that laid flat on the top of the bed and did not cover the bed entirely. That does not seem very sanitary. The bed was not comfortable at all. I had the worst sleep here. Save your money and take it to Madison or somewhere else. I think this would be a decent hotel if they did some major updates. lol read more

It's rough on amenities and decor, but it's safe, clean, and comfortable for a good night's sleep. The hotel is within walking distance of WalMart, along with the usual basic fast food food chains. It's 15 minutes to Fort McCoy (assuming no rush hour gate traffic). Power outlets were extremely limited, with a power strip which looked like a fire hazard waiting to happen. There's a better option a few hundred feet away, but this is about as good as it's going to get for this area. read more

Came into town for work. After my night shift I was woken up with someone pounding aggressively at my door demanding I check out of the hotel. I informed them I booked the room for 2 nights. They continued to pound on the door so I called the front desk who demanded I come to front desk to resolve this. When I got there they realized I HAD booked another night and they were wrong. They never apologized or took any accountability. I checked out 16 hours before my reservation ended and went to work on NO sleep. It was brutal. When I called the next day to complain they accepted no wrongdoing and the person who claimed to be the manager says it wasn't her fault because she wasn't working that day. She then said there is nothing more to discuss and hung up the phone. I stay in hotels 3 days a week for work and have never been treated this poorly. Think twice before giving any Best Western your business. ESPECIALLY the Tomah location. read more

This hotel is supposed to be a nice hotel. It's a 3 star class with 4.1 stars trip advisor. They even won some trip advisor award last year. I call BS... First we get to our room and there is trash scattered throughout and there was food pieces and dead bugs on the floor. There was also bugs, grime and spider webs in the window ledge. Not the best place for a toddler who eats everything... So we went to the front desk and they gave us the vacuum to clean the floor... The bathroom reeked of urine. It was the nasty shower curtain. Several of the towels had large black smelly oil marks on them. We asked for new ones and those had marks too. The water in the shower was either ice cold or scalding hot. There was nothing in the middle. The second day we came back and the maid didn't even make one of the beds! We made sure before we left that nothing was left on them and somehow it wasn't touched. The AC unit was loud and with screeching noises every time it came on. We were on the first floor near the parking lot and every time someone was smoking outside, the smell filled our room. We don't smoke and we don't want that gross smell anywhere near us or our children. We made sure that the front desk was aware of the issues when they happened. We spoke to the owner who flat out said that she wouldn't have even stayed there... she also told me that when I booked the room I only listed it as a single occupancy instead of listing my family which would have raised the rate. She then told me I should be happy that I wasn't charged the extra 10 bucks a day and to call it even. I booked with the front desk over the phone and made it very clear that my family and I needed a room. This is an awful place with the worst customer service ever. I will never stay here and will not allow any other service members I know to stay here. I'm still waiting for a the owner, Ruth to call me back. I'm not holding my breath. read more

If you are in a wheelchair, do not stay here. Rooms have as much room as the law requires, no more. No way my husband, who had a stroke and is wheelchair bound, can manage to get around. Even with my help in the room with 2 beds, impossible. read more

Is there any management around minding this place? I've had to wrangle with tech support for four days now to get a router rebooted so I can get internet access. Apparently, the router is in someone's room so it is difficult to get access to. Why would you do that? Most places have a communications closet, or place the devices in one of the other ample storage rooms. Internet access finally works but it is excruciatingly slow and unstable. I'm trying to download a 3gb file for work, and I simply can't do it. The connection is extremely slow and drops about every twenty minutes. As though the entire hotel is sharing a single residential cable internet line. Even writing this review I had to wait for the connection to resume functioning. The AC is weak and LOUD. Weird bits of terrible design are everywhere. I noticed the odd placement of the door stop when I jammed my toe into it as I was putting clothes in the closet. I would have been able to see it had there been a light at the door opening, but the light switch goes to a lamp on the other side of the room. The cable TV signal is weak and staticky, though the TV itself is nice. The coffee maker can't be used on its default and sensible spot in the room - the fridge/microwave cabinet. The cord doesn't reach far enough down to the outlet. So if you want to make coffee you have to move the pot to the night stand, or the desk. There are few available outlets in the room - most crucially, why isn't there an outlet next to the bed, where one might plug a phone in to charge? I've lost my patience with this place - unfortunately my place of work has decided that this is where we will stay and I don't have an option. I really don't want to stay here again next year with service like this, so it will be brought to leadership's attention. read more

For starters, this place has no sign stating it's the Holiday Inn. What business doesn't have a way to let people know it's location? Oh that's because it's no longer a Holiday Inn. It's the Tomah Inn. It's an older structure so don't expect modern amenities. The dimly lit hallways have an ever-changing stench of mold, cigarette smoke or chlorine. As for the rooms, the bed is comfy and overall feeling is clean. There's a lot of static on the tv and there aren't many electrical outlets which forces a decision to either charge or have light. Some of the outlets in the room remind me of the public service announcement showing why you don't plug in too many appliances into the same slot. The tile in the bathroom is SLICK and while wearing only socks, be careful. There's not much sound deadening and with what seems like paper-thin walls, it's easy to hear what's going on next door. It's also very easy to hear noises and conversations from the hall. Would I stay here again? Not without checking out the other hotels in town first. And if I had to stay here again that would be okay but I wouldn't bring my wife nor recommend this to a friend. read more
