This place is stunning!! A perfect home away from home. We are a group of travellers, most of whom are government contractors at Fort McCoy, and are living here for an entire month. We were so pleased that this worked out, as Tomah does not exactly have a wide variety of corporate housing or even any nice hotels! It appears to me that there are 4 houses, all located around Birch Lake. The compound is extremely private, and each house has it's own secluded area, driveway and boat dock. The lake has 3 small beaches, and I believe that there is an inflatable "splash island" and trampoline in the summer.... and there is no one else around! The town of Tomah is only a 10 minute drive away, and fort McCoy is about 20. I would recommend this for anyone working on base, and also to vacationers who want a peaceful and relaxing stay on a lake. We are in the largest of the houses, and I have only seen one of the other ones. Both of these houses have hot tubs, boats, fully equipped kitchens, and large Tvs, and I am sure the other do, too. We have 6 fully furnished bedrooms, and also a ping pong table! They all have outdoor BBQs and fire pits, and stunning views of the lake. Birch Lake is a great vacation home. Sally and Terry are very nice and willing to help with anything. All the homes are totally furnished except for towels and paper products. The Paradise home has the best view of the lake from the 6person hot tub in the sun room! The home also has a great fireplace, living area, and extremely well stocked kitchen with all appliances. Direct TV as well! There are beaches on the lake and each house has a paddle boat and a row boat. There are also fire pits and firewood is available at the house for $4 a bundle. There is a small walking/hiking trail around the lake and the property is surrounded by quiet and beautiful farmland. read more

My family stayed at the Haven this past weekend. We sent the following complaints (With more details) to the owners and were met with excuse after excuse... 1. Let's start with WiFi - didn't work. My mother in fact called once because she just needed to connect to clear an error so that she could read her book. She was told to stand on the front porch. - They claimed its a long time issue - well then do advertise you have it - we had planned a few activities around having access. 2. The stove was filthy - so much caked on gunk that is smells like the place is burning down without any food in it (preheating).. 3. The couch in the living room upstairs: we had to get a blanket from downstairs to cover it because it smelled like someone had pooped in their pants and left it sit. 4. The mold around the vents in the bathroom downstairs and stains on the walls shows that the place is rarely thoroughly cleaned - not to mention the dust bunnies everywhere. 5. Sheets on the king bed were crusty. 6. There was a pile of seeds sitting under the pillow in one queen room. 7. Sofa sleepers (everyone of them) was covered with mouse poop when we took the cushions off. 8. The worst by far was the mouse infestation. My parents arrived on Thursday night and saw a mouse in the kitchen that night - Friday morning they went and bought mouse traps; there was a constant critter scurrying in the wall after dark. There was also tufts of mouse fur on the dresser in the game room. And then there was poop on multiple surfaces in the kitchen every morning. While we understand that mice come inside in fall - this has obviously been a problem for quite sometime given the amount of evidence left behind. 9. Wasn't a big issue but the whirlpool jets work - there are two that function but don't really push much out - the rest either don't work or barely bubble - plus the fan looks like it is ready to collapse. At approx. $250.00 per night - we could have rented a suite in the Dells for this price and they are more thoroughly cleaned. The owner in response stated this was a complaint about the price - not so it was simply stating we could get a cleaner suite in the Dells for a similar price - he tried to break it down to per person (6 adults) stating can't get a room for that price at super 8. Not true we could get a suite in the Dells, Door County etc. that would have fit all of us for around the same price,,, read more

Our family rents a large vacation home every year. We recently rented the Serenity Bay home. The home was not the cleanest and the furniture needed replacing pretty badly as it was stained and uncomfortable. When I say it wasn't clean, the bathroom on the lower level smelled pretty bad due to the bathrug being mildewed or something. I washed it myself the second day and things improved dramatically odor wise, but the fixtures in the bathrooms were pretty cruddy. The basement floor carpeting was also very wet when we arrived and took a few days to dry out. There were cobwebs all over the house and some of the sheets had mystery stains. The facility did not appear to have recycling either. Our large group took several trips to the dumpster and a lot of recyclable items had to be tossed. Very unfortunate. The screens had so many holes the flies were out of control inside the house. We purchased a roll of duct tape to put over the holes and keep the fly level to a minimum. One of the bathroom door knobs was falling off in the basement and the kitchen was not well stocked. For example, there are 5 bedrooms, but only 6 coffee cups and a few other random glasses. Doesn't quite add up if a couple stays in each room. The lake had a lot of algae and was very green. Only one or two people took a dip and we stayed there a week. Overall, having a fire ring outside was very nice and it was fairly quiet. I don't think we'll be back. It is unfortunate because we had stayed at the Haven home about 7 years ago and at the time it was very clean and well stocked. But then, we stayed in the winter and only for a weekend. read more
