I was invited to hear my sister lead praise and worship which was a high time, but my God when I heard that Word by Pastor Dr. R. S. Hawthrone it spoke to my heart and the word has been speaking to my heart ever since. Let's get to the real deal. I have incurable blood cancer and in 2018 - 2022 the labs reported a 60% myeloma cancer cell involvement in my bones. My doctor did not want to do a bone biopsy because he wanted me on a $7000 med every 21 days and 7 off for maintenance, but I insisted on getting what I wanted, and then I asked for prayer. My sister Jacqueline Uzzle took me up front for prayer. I had my biopsy. My bad cancer cell occupancy went from 60% to 5%... Thank God for Jesus!!! YES, Thank God for Jesus, and Thank God for this ministry. Being part of this Church (The Church) - the Bride of Christ - is an experience I can hardly put words to. The Spirit of the Lord operates here. I've seen firsthand the danger that comes with isolating yourself, especially in other organizations, as I saw friends pull away from the church and then pull away from God. I was astonished by the way that the pastors bring the word! I always feel like I have learn something more about God when I leave out! These are the same pastors that had prayed over me when I was lost in the world! I have also survived an illness with an issue of a bleeding disorder and I am alive to tell my story! As a parishioner of the Basilica, I want to offer you and others another view of your misperception of the wait for admission that you had after you arrived late for Mass recently. The reason the ushers hold closed the floor to ceiling glass doors to delay admission for late comers is to preserve the respect being offered to the procession of the priest and others assisting in the celebration of the Mass. After some early prayers and singing, the doors are opened for tardy attendees to enter. We are often late and are among the other very few people waiting. It's not intended to be a road block as you imply. It also serves as a subtle reminder to get to Mass on time. It sounds like you didn't wait around for the doors to open because you likely missed the full personal experience of Fr. Jim's celebration of the Mass, one of his consistently outstanding homilies, and the glorious singing of the choir. Jay, I encourage you to come back to another Mass, arrive on time, get a good seat to your liking, and benefit from the full experience of a wonderful Catholic celebration at the Basilica. Pastor Larry is an amazing speaker who truly wants God's word to be shared. Weekly Prayer meeting and Bible study offered. Monthly potlucks add to the fellowship. They are an older congregation, so while there is a children's nursery area and children's church if you want it, there are not a lot of large kid events other than VBS. However, the families in this church are like extended family/grandparents to our kids and it's nice having mentors like that in your life. Highly recommend visiting this church to hear the sermons :-)
