After being a member of this church for nearly a decade, I feel I can offer an honest perspective…read morebased on years of experience and involvement. During that time, I witnessed many positive moments and met some wonderful people who genuinely care about their faith and community...Because of my long standing connection to the church, it is disappointing to say that I believe there is still considerable room for spiritual growth within the church's management and leadership structure. While no church is perfect, healthy leadership should consistently reflect humility, accountability, compassion, and Christ-centered guidance. Unfortunately, there were times when these qualities seemed lacking in the way certain situations were handled. This review is not written out of bitterness, but from a sincere desire to see the church thrive and become all that it is called to be. My hope is that leadership will continue to grow spiritually, listen to constructive feedback, and strengthen the culture of grace, transparency, and servant leadership throughout the organization. I am grateful for many of the experiences and relationships formed over the years, and I genuinely wish the church, its leadership, and its congregation nothing but the best as they move forward. My prayer is for continued growth, wisdom, and spiritual maturity in every area of ministry.

I stopped by because I saw the historical marker and the beautiful church. On a Saturday afternoon,…read morethere were no services going on. The marker is on two sides. It reads, "This church was founded in 1764 by Rev. William Richardson, who organized Scots-Irish settlers in this area, from both S.C. and N.C., into a congregation. Incorporated in 1786 as "The Presbyterian Church of Bethel Congregation," it grew steadily and built its third church building here in 1809. Bethel later became the mother church for eight area Presbyterian churches." On the reverse, "The present church was described as "large and tasteful" when it was dedicated in 1873. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The earliest marked grave in the cemetery is from 1774. The cemetery contains graves of veterans of all of America's wars, including several Patriots who fought at the nearby battle of Kings Mountain on October 7, 1780." The church is the oldest in York County, which in 1764 was still considered part of North Carolina. The building described on the marker is the structure that was erected in 1873 and still stands. Fifty two Revolutionary War soldiers buried in its historic cemetery. Among them is Thomas Neel, a War of Independence hero and a founding elder of the church. Many Confederate soldiers are buried there as well. The cemetery is well kept. [Review 13867 overall, 1189 of 2020, number 627 in South Carolina.]
