As an educator myself, I could not be more pleased with the educational foundation my children are receiving. During the Covid crisis, the teacher and administration support have been astounding - in addition all of the class meetings, instructional calls, and materials provided, we a offered 1-1 consultations as often as needed. The teachers and administration have given above and beyond to provided support and meet the educational needs of the times. I cannot recommend this school highly enough!

For sixth grade (still considered elementary under the Montessori model), we returned to the Hampton campus. The school year started off well, but the teacher was a bit eccentric and was let go toward the end of the year. By year's end, we felt the education being provided was inconsistent, and we wanted more structure for our child going forward, so we chose a different path for seventh grade. When it came time for the elementary graduation ceremony, we received an invitation and attended, only to discover, upon arrival, that our child's name was not on the program. He had not been included in the ceremony simply because he wasn't continuing on to their middle school. This was disheartening for him, especially after a full year of good performance and full tuition paid. Excluding a student who completed the year successfully, solely because of where he was headed next, reflects poor judgment on the part of whoever made that call. Because of this experience, I would not recommend the Hampton campus.

Take my advice when I say do not keep your child there past the 2nd grade. Some teachers just don't know how to be teachers and some do. This past year, my child has experienced some of the worse bashing from a teacher possible and the teacher does it in front of the other kids, as to embarrass the child. I have to constantly boost my child up when the teacher knocks her down. You cannot take back negative words once they are said. If you have a complaint, you are told to follow the chains of command, well, there's not really a chain of command. One person is wearing multiple hats. When you contact the administrator/principal, you will be lucky if you get a response back. I know that I am not the only parent that feels this way about this place. I have heard many demeaning things regarding certain teachers, but I have decided to see for myself. I wish that I had listened. I didn't listen then but you best believe that I am listening now.

I selected Friends in Jesus learning center because I wanted a faith-based environment with…read morehonesty, integrity, and caregivers who considered my son's well-being to be a priority. Unfortunately, this is not the place.  My son suffered a bruised leg and busted lip at this school and no one knew what happened. His teacher (Ms. Rose) was extremely dismissive and unconcerned about the situation. When I told her my son stated he informed her of his injuries, she responded, "He'll tell you whatever he thinks you want to hear." I was disgusted and appalled at her blatant disregard and unprofessionalism. She has always been unresponsive and dismissive towards me. I would send notes to school for her and never received a response. After this last incident, I was no longer comfortable with my son being in Ms. Rose's care. I contacted her leadership and requested a meeting. I asked that my son be swapped/moved to the other preschool class or moved to the 4 -year old room since he'll be four in two weeks. My request for a meeting was completely ignored and a move from her class was denied. The next day, I received an email from the directors (Amy/ Susanne) stating because of my concerns, they will not be pulling any more payments for my son's care... I was basically told to leave.  These people have a horrible work ethic, lack integrity, and moral character. There is nothing Christian about this school. It is just a business to them. I would never recommend this place to anyone for childcare/education.

Also it's about 10-15 miles from the beach/coastline. This is a military town, so you'll see lots of soldiers. The airport is kind of small and as a result flights are limited, but all in all this is nice place to rear a family and or retire to.

While Hampton cannot provide some things, Newport News does it with excellence. Many of their schools, such as Washington middle, Denbigh high, and Heritage high, are excellent at the magnets that they provide, and it is obvious that a decent amount of money and care went into them. Nothing is perfect, and maybe I'm biased, but it is mostly fine the way it is. Plenty of HBCUs around, such as Hampton University, so the students have great expectations. Great school system, overall!
