Updating my original review. I contacted Beth and she agreed the work was subpar. She agreed to fix the dress and refunded me my money. While satisfied with the resolution, it was frustrating to deal with. ************ I took a formal dress to Beth's to have the shoulders taken in a little. Felt like it was an easy enough alteration but apparently not. As you can see in the picture the seam is not flush. It is bunched and has a point to it. I also paid $37 for this subpar work. Thanks for ruining a $300 dress. Think twice before you use them for any of your formal wear. read more

I brought my wedding dress to Beth the beginning of December and it was about three sizes too big. I get married out of state on Feb 4 (not even two full months) and was so worried I wouldn't have a fitting wedding dress in time. But she turned it around and made it PERFECT. It fits like a glove. She not only took in the sleeves, re did the entire buttons down the back, and took in the bust and waist but also cleaned it for me and had it done early. First let me start off that the quality that this business provides is just fine and I haven't had any issues with anything of that nature. My main concern is that after coming to this small business three different times with different Army uniform/patch/name tape sew on jobs I had the same experience each time. I tried to give them a fair shake and support a local small business, but after this latest encounter, I'm going to look elsewhere. So every time I brought something in, I was asked when i wanted it done by. I said a week, each time, to which the staff responded wouldn't be a problem. So a week (or more) goes by and I end up either going in or calling and get the "uhhhhh we have to look for your stuff" response and they find it incomplete and tell me it'll be done within the hour. I don't know if I'm a unique case or what, but the first time it happened I tried to brush it off in the name of good karma. Not I'm just annoyed at the inconsistency, lack of communication and unprofessionalism. read more

This is an update to below- Beth originally stated she would refund me upon receipt of the new alterations. That has not happened. She claims I didn't take the deal. Why wouldn't I want the refund after I had to pay someone else to properly do the job??? Save yourself - run for the hills.....do not take your wedding dress here if you want it altered properly. I made the mistake by taking my $1300 Casablanca dress here and it's ruined. I told Beth when I arrived that I would need the bust taken in and a bustle. She decided to cut through the cups instead of taking the side seams in. Why? No clue. I'm a size D cup. Therefore causing a puckering in the bust cups (imagine Madonna and her outfit in vogue with the gold coned bra). Her stitching came apart as well. The dress bunches up in the waist in the front and back. The zipper doesn't even properly lie flat. (Please look at the pictures I've provided) Beth also put a silver clip on for my hustle which was noticeable considering my dress was champagne and white lace - why she didn't use a white hook like she did for my hook before the zipper is beyond me. I wrote to Beth and expressed my concern about all the items. She was responsive at first and told me to send her the receipt for the alterations that would need to be done to fix the dress and she would refund me. She also asked for photos in which I provided her - taken in her shop.....crickets....after this. So After her avoiding my texts and emails, I called her to try and resolve the issue at hand and she said she had nothing to say. I will have to take her to small claims court to get back the money for the dress she damaged as well as the $350 dollars she charged for botched alterations. Please go elsewhere!!!!! read more

Beth is a great tailor! I've taken some jackets to her, both Army and normal suit jacket and she has done a great job. She has the knowledge to do the job right and will take the time to explain things for you. She has a good eye and attention to detail which to me is really important in a tailor. Aside from her skills, she is also very professional and and pleasure to work with. Every time I go in to her shop, it's nothing but smiles and conversation. Was so lucky to find this place, I needed a pageant dress that was too long shortened for a pageant the next day. My daughter was set on wearing this dress! Ms. Beth was able to get this done the same day and how beautiful it looks. This was a layered dress so all layers had to be shortened. What a life saver, we thank you so much!! I brought in a ball dress to inquire about pricing to get the length shortened. I tried it on and a lady "chalked" the dress to measure. After I removed the dress and went up to the counter, she told me that the cost would be $55. This was much higher than I was anticipating for a basic cut and hem job to shorten it about 2 inches. The dress is thin material and only 1 layer. Its not a big, poofy layered dress. I'm sure it would take a skilled person less than 10-15 minutes to hem it. I told her that I was going to check around for other prices. Then another lady approached and asked the first lady if she had chalked the dress. She responded yes, then the second lady says to me that they really should charge me $10 because they chalked the dress. I responded to her nicely, "I wasn't informed of that ahead of time", to which she replied, "Well it's your conscience", and then she walked away. I was dumbfounded. First, this price seemed much to high, then you are rude to me for no reason? Everything before that point seemed fine. This was my first time in there, and the shop was recommended to me, so I fully intended to have them do the work until I heard that price. I cannot speak to the quality of the work, but based on my experience today, I would not step foot back in there or recommend anyone else do so either. read more

I am torn. I've had an atrocious experience with them. Alot of mishaps along the way that had to be corrected by the very sweet owner(Beth). I have gone back and forth more times than we planned on. On my wedding day I got stuck by a hidden needle which caused me to bleed on my dress prior to my wedding(which also happened during a fitting). The dress didnt fit like i ultimately wanted, but it was destroyed. Beth had done everything in her power to make things right. I understand mistakes are made, people are human. I am glad my dress wasnt distorted, or destroyed. I don't think i could give them a solid recommendation, i wish i could. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!!! Do Not Trust With Your Wedding Dress. Ms. Beth did alternations to my wedding dress two weeks before my wedding and everything was great up until my wedding day. My sister shows up to the hotel in front of my wedding party with my dress in a bright pink cleaners bag (looked more like a garbage bag). I asked where's my garment bag and my sister said this was what my dress was in when she picked it up. I then tried on my dress and when my daughter went to latch the hook and eye piece it was missing. I paid Ms. Sue $300 for alterations and an extra $30 to tighten the hook and eye. I immediately called her on my wedding day and she basically said she did not know anything about it. After drilling her for 10 minutes she finally said she it was a mistake she took it off and forgot to put it on. I left it alone that day because there was nothing I could do when I'm getting married in less than 1 hour. I did call the next day while my husband and I were in Vegas. I asked for a refund and she had the nerve to say you only paid $5.00, and I had a receipt in hand which said $30.00 To this day she still has my garment bag and I never got a refund. If it was worth $30 to you to ruin my wedding day then my God help you. I never wanted a full refund, but I wish I could post the pictures of my wedding day so all could see, because there are pictures with my bra and even a lot of cleavage showing. I am a petite woman there I don't have a lot of cleavage to hold up the dress, therefore the hook and eye was very important and needed. But those pictures I wanted to keep of my day, I had to destroy. Nothing worse than breast hanging way out on your wedding day. read more

Unfortunately, we had a pretty bad experience at Beth's Sew n Sew... I took a bridesmaid dress in to get altered and was charged over $180 for it to be taken in maybe an inch in the waist and hemmed. The last time I had a gown altered was almost three years ago and I honestly can't remember what I paid for it, so I was pretty oblivious to prices for this kind of thing... but after paying Beth and calling a few friends immediately for guidance, I realized I was waaay over charged for this particular alteration. We went back in (minutes after dropping the gown off and paying) to ask for a refund and she (luckily) agreed, but charged us $30 for her time. I totally understand charging for the card swipe and for her time but nearly $30 for maybe 10-15 minutes of pinning the dress? The whole experience left a bad taste in our mouthes and a feeling of being ripped off. Maybe I've got it all wrong here and $180+ for alterations to a bridesmaid dress is normal but I doubt it... I could just buy a whole new dress for that kind of money. Hopefully this review will at least warn the next gal to make sure she understands what an average alteration will cost before going into Beth's. I now have a better idea and will be getting my dress altered elsewhere. read more
