Betta Heat were recommended to me by my partner who had Central Heating installed by them.
I made an appointment for them to come round and service my boiler. fireplace and repair a gas leak in the pipe to the gas hob.
The first appointment, they failed to turn up (rang me on the day to cancel and couldnt honour the same day) so whole day off was wasted.
A subsequent appointment was made for a month later..
On this occasion my partner stayed in to wait for them.
On this day, she had to call them as he hadnt turned up (they forgot!) so they came around post haste.
He serviced the boiler and fireplace, then had a look for the gas leak, he scared my partner saying that the leak isnt from the pipe going to the hob but from the pipe under the concrete floor, he will have to come back the following week with the boss to assess the work. It will cost us a few hundred pounds as it will require digging up the floor or going under floorboards upstairs. He then cut off the supply to the hob.
When i returned to see the work that was done I was a little bemused by the claim that the pipe was leaking from the floor as firstly, I had identified the leak by using an Omnitrak detector and found the leak was on a sheaf on the pipe leading to the hob. If the pupe was leaking from the floor , then its likely the rest of the houses on the estate were the same risk (around 1000 +!!!)
On the day the engineer was supposed to come round, he didnt!.
A phone call was made to enquire his whereabouts established that he had been working with his boss all day and hadnt mentioned it!
I made an alternative emergency callout to another corgi registered company who came round that evening and repaired the leak for £75 and also re attached the hob and connected the supply back.
The pipe was cut in two by Betta heat which puzzled the engineer.
My partner called Betta heat the following day to enquire about the work that was going to cost us hundreds of pounds that actually only cost us £75 , they hung up the phone!
Now Im not Matt Alwright from Rogue Traders however, this story will make it to them as I feel that I will not be the only person stitched up by this company.
My opinion would be that the chap that said he would pop back the following week with the boss, was actually going to come back with his friend ('the boss') and charge me the earth for a job that was not required.
Either this or Betta Heat make their money by creating 'problems' and fixing them 100% so it doesnt smell of cowboy
Hats off the small companies that answered my cry for help on the day and repaired the job , working till 7pm!
