Recently came here on a trip to the M1 concourse nearby and I wanted to make a pit stop here since these stores are growing on me on my visits to Michigan. Large store with a plethora of health food options. They had a whole loaf of the "Dave's Bread" brand on sale for a whopping $2 on clearance! Staff here was friendly. I've driven by many Better Health stores over the years and simply haven't went inside since I didn't really see the need to, but it's really convenient to quickly pick up some products that I'd have to go to Whole Foods for. This location (compared to the Shelby township location) doesn't seem to have the widest selection but it's still pretty decent, but as others have stated I'd double check all expiration dates. That's probably a good thing to do at any grocery store. During the summer I was able to get some really fresh cherries, watermelons, pineapples. Everything in the cafe I've ever tried has tasted really good and recently made, especially their cookies, which I'm assuming they make daily. They carry my favorite water brand "Boxed Water is Better" which I can't seem to find at most places, so I'm always happy about that. There's also a wide variety of supplements and vitamins, like all the other Better Health stores. The staff are always nice and are able to help you with coupons and have even let me slide with an expired one or two. Overall decent little grocery store. read more

Better Health Store focuses on organics and supplements as well as a good selection of the usual grocery items. I don't consider it one of my primary grocery stores but I stop in occasionally for certain items. I receive their weekly ads every month that include coupons for discounts on your purchases. While it is not price competitive with discount stores like Costco or Sams, they do have advertised specials that are worth a stop. And combined with the coupons there are some good deals to be had. Anytime I have been searching for something specific, the staff here have been very friendly and helpful in finding it. The store has always been clean and the layout is easy to figure out. Worst BH ever!! I took back a bag of organic apples that were two days after purchasing because they were pithy, bruised, and waxy actually on the day of purchase. I didn't have my receipt because I told the clerk I didn't need it....only got apples. I was a repeat customer (until now) and I remembered the guy who rang me up. The woman with dark curly hair was who I approached when I entered the store. I explained the situation and I would have been reasonable since I didn't have the receipt, but it was her rude and condescending tone and demeanor that lost me as a customer. Not the fact that she refused to give me store credit or ask the clerk about the purchase as requested. She couldn't care less about customer retention or in respecting them. I come to this store because it's the closest one to my house. But out of all the ones I've been too this one has the rudest staff! Everyone that works there seems to hate their life and job. I've have never once had a positive experience with the staff there. The one old lady with the long ponytail and glasses is a straight up c u next Tuesday. Both the cashier and manager were extremely rude and acted like customers were a nuisance. The store is not clean and, often, the food on the shelves is spoiled. I could deal with that but I cannot tolerate being mistreated by a manager and a cashier. I asked the cashier if she was having a bad day-giving her the benefit of doubt. She scowled and did not answer. I never saw either one of them great a patron nicely. I have shopped at this store for over 10 years. This past year, the employees have changed. I like Better Health Market because they have a huge variety of vitamins, food, and hot food bar with smoothies. I was on the hunt for concentrated cranberry juice. This is not something that you will find at a regular grocery store, so I was in search for a specialty store. Better Health Market had it and then some. The store had aisles and aisles of natural and healthy items ranging from aromatherapy oils to gluten-free cookies. I like that they have a variety of natural, organic, and raw groceries to select from. There is also a cafe inside the market where you can purchase sandwiches, fresh juice, smoothies and soup. I tried the 10W-40 raw juice and boy does it give you fuel. It has apples, carrots, beets, spinach, parsley, garlic and ginger. I don't like beets, but the apples offset the bitter taste. I enjoyed trying their Chicken Club: Amish chicken breast, Applegate Farms' turkey bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and Veganaise on a warm, whole wheat wrap. Everything is made fresh, so it takes a bit of time to make. They accept cash, credit cards, and EBT as forms of payment. I stopped here for lunch while in the neighborhood. I got an ample, tasty veggie sandwich with spinach and feta and an apple on the side (a fine balance of healthy and luscious). I got free spring water with my meal, too. Better Health Market large store has a similar set of products and features as Whole Foods. The vibe, however, is more traditional health food and less yuppie (it reminds me of late Good Food Company). Its prices may be higher than in large conventional grocery stores but they are good compared to other stores of this type. The staff is very friendly and helpful. All in all, it's a nice antidote to the corporatization of health food. read more

Walked into the store first time since Covid, assuming the mask mandate is in effect 'for your safety' it claimed, that notice on front door and properly enforced. A maskless old woman was in line at cashier and we tried to stay as far away, lining up at the other cashier. A female worker I assumed is some manager re-directed us to queue behind that maskless woman. I gave her the benefit of doubt, pointing out : that woman is not wearing a mask, and I'm not stepping 10 ft in her vicinity for my safety. She THEN directed the 2 young ladies behind us in harm's way, to pay behind that maskless breathing chatting potential biohazard. I asap told the young ladies behind me to beware and they said, ' that is exactly why we didn't line up at that cashier!' I inform the female worker I assumed it is her job to talk to the biohazard about the mask requirement in their store. She then told me it is her company's policy to not approach, not talk, nor enforce the mask mandate. That's a disregard to other shoppers and her fellow co-workers health, I stressed, and it is "Better Health's" policy huh?! I reiterated her decision to not say a thing, not do a thing is especially putting the cashier and bagger who has to share space within 6ft with someone maskless she is actively condoning. She kept repeating 'Ma'am please understand...' or 'I understand...' Understand what exactly?! If she is going to allow a public health hazard to freely roam in store, at least 1. Divert other shoppers out of that vicinity which she is doing exact opposite 2. Ring up every one of these maskless wonders herself she allowed in to ensure the safety of workers under her supervision, which she is so not doing. Not the widest selection of products (hoping to find chia pods or organic icecream) but staff (Mark specifically) was extremely helpful. He clearly has a passion for health, and offered great suggestions with a smile. The prepared food looked and smelled delicious, and their prices were inline for most products. Plus their discount card provides instant savings at checkout. Huge selections of supplements and healthy, nutrient dense snacks. Clean store too. First time in this chain, wish there were similar stores in the Chicagoland area! read more

No idea how this store gets good reviews. The food in the deli cooler is dry and looks like an afterthought. Not creative at all. Salad bar closes at 7:30. Salads are left out and covered with saran wrap not put in cooler. Store hours are until 9 yet salad bar wrapped up at 7:30. Asked if i could get something from it and told no. I asked why? She said she has to close it early because store wont pay her to stay after 9. Haha. Thats not an answer to why i cant lift the saran wrap and get something. First time in store and last. read more

This was my first time in this Better Health Store and I was very disappointed. Selection compared to some stores was limited. The worst part was that the dates on many items was expiring today or soon. An employee even came up to me and said "check the dates" and they would offer a discount. This store will be moving to Square Lake and Telegraph in May. This is a Michigan based company and they offer a rewards program. Prior to this I have never been inside before...but I had some time to kill before my LaMarsa order was ready. It is a tiny store, only three aisles. They have a nice selection of natural beauty products ie. Dr. Bronners, Alba Botanicals, Deodrant, Hair Dye, etc. They had Good Earth Tea, Dieters Tea, yogi teas and many others. A small selection of health foods and gluten free prducts. Decent selection of protein powders and bars. Lots of viatmins and supplements from qualty manufactures like specturum and code. Good selection of cleanses. Nice homeopathy remedies from tabs to tinctures. They follow the Dr. Oz trends and have products featured on the show....many heling with weightloss. They even have herbal viagra....I really liked that they had two brands of essential oils (now foods and living desert) that are far cheaper than whole foods' aura cacia and 365 brands. I stocked up! I've been here a few times and I've always liked it. The prices are a little higher but it's not a chain business so I would rather shop there. Until today! I bought ribs, they were $14.32, but a good quality meat so I was looking forward to make them for dinner! I got home and opened the package and the smell of rancid meat was overwhelming! I flipped it over and the expiration date (9/13/15) so they were still good. Then I noticed under that sticker was another sticker, I peeled back that sticker to reveal the original expiration date! The actual date was 8/13/15...24 DAYS EXPIRED! I called to voice my concern and get a refund and I was told there is no manager in and I have to come back with the item...also they do not put new stickers over old ones... which is clearly a lie! To make things even worse when they put the new sticker on they raised the price!!!! I will never shop here again! read more

I've been to the store a couple times for a few different things over the past several months. While the selection is awesome, the prices are a little higher then what I might pay somewhere else. I came to the store because I saw that they carried Four Sigmatic coffee. I wanted a specific kind, so I called ahead of time before coming in. I spoke to a guy who placed me on hold to check to see if they had it. He came back and said they do. I was looking for the four sigmatic mushroom matcha and I was excited to know they had it in stock. So I went to the store and located the brand on the shelf...but as it turns out not only was it NOT on the shelf, but there was not even a tag, and it wasn't even available for them to order. Apparently I was lied to by the guy that I spoke to on the phone. I'm so disappointed. We don't come out here very often, but now I'm thinking that we might not ever come back. read more

I'm so torn about this place. I find lots of products that I use which saves me a trip to Whole Foods and I love the idea of the cafe but I really struggle with a few things. 1. The expiration dates always need to be checked here, especially for meat. In fact, two - three days ago we ran in and grabbed a few things and the girl checking me out picked up the chicken thighs (organic Amish brand sold in multiple Michigan grocery stores) and smelled the chicken and said "sometimes this brand of chicken smells really bad so I wanted to make sure it was okay" um... way to make me feel comfortable. Probably my biggest complaint is the cafe. The juice and smoothies are a nice touch and if made correctly they are good however consistency is the absolute worst. 1 out of 5 times you get a good product like the menu, otherwise it's gross. Yesterday I got a green monster smoothie and it was warm, like tap water warm and tasted like they forgot to add bananas. The guy who made them hit on me and then told me he added extra peanut butter so I could taste it. I'm totally done with the 9.99 large smoothies until they do some training in this area and teach all the team members to make it like the menu, every time. read more

So happy I found a closer source for my Barista Blend French Vanilla Coconut Milk cream! Saves me the trek to Whole Foods. I buy my wheatgrass, raw nuts, greek style coconut milk yogurt, gluten free granola & snack bars and Late July chips (since Costco stopped carrying them). I also purchase some oils and vitamins and find the staff EXTREMELY helpful when I am looking for a recommendation or product info. I love the weekly coupon text (so I don't have to do anything more than show them my text for a 10-20% (depending on the day of the week) discount off my bill). I called this store and asked if they carried a specific product. I even spelled it for the clerk on the phone. She put me on hold and went to see if they had the product. When she came back on the phone she said she had the product in the store in stock. I drove the ten miles to the store and learned they didn't have the product and had never heard of it. I wasted a 20 mile round trip to go to this store. They are suppose to be Better Health. It is way, way over-priced and the stock is not good. The most amazing thing about this location is an elderly woman name Kay. I am an NBA Chaplain and health guru. I spend lots of time and money on health products. Kay is my primary reason for switching from GNC to Better Health Stores. If you're ever looking for a product that cost way to much online or at a different store or vendor, I recommend going to visit Kay at Better Health on telegraph in Bloomfield MI. She's very focused, knowledgeable, patient, and takes genuine interest in making sure you understand any product or the differences as compared to alternate brands. Kay is the absolute best!
