The nurses and STNAs work hard to take care of the residents/patients. We have some of the best physical, occupational, and speech therapy. I remember working there and treating all of my residents like family. Darla, the scheduler, does a really great job with working all of the staffs schedules and needed days off. I remember making countless "deals" with her in order to get days off work for school functions. She was always able to work something out for me so not only did I get a shift off I wanted, but I was still able to pick up an additional shift so I could keep a steady money flow.

No one should Have to wait two hours for a pain pill or have to argue with staff to get their medications. No one attempted to engage my Dad in activities and left him In bed most of the time unless my sister or I was there to get him up. There were frequent mistakes with food orders and many times staff didn't know where to Find orders for the food or the wrong food, which my Father wouldn't eat, would be brought to him. We were only invited to one treatment team, and my sister and I have DPOAHC. My father was seen by physician at admission, but not while there after that. NP was contacted for orders, but didn't have physical contact with my Father. We were the advocates for our Father. We worry about those who don't have advocates. It was a pretty facility but we don't feel it warranted the 5 star quality service indicated by others.

What most people need to realize, is the importance of building a relationship with the staff caring for your loved one. It is a team effort. This is a care facility. They cannot and should not be expected to give private duty nursing services. It is unrealistic for any facility to be expected to do this. You have to be willing to reach out to the staff and work with them. Come to them with concerns, but also realize a thank you goes a long way when you do this very hard work. I can't begin to thank the staff for the care dad received especially during his final days. I stayed with my dad to care for him and make sure he knew he was not alone. I believe that was my honor and duty, but this staff cared for me as well as my dad. The concern for my well being touched me to my core. I will not forget the compassion my father and I received by all the staff. The flower arrangement that was sent to the funeral home was so beautiful and very appreciated. Staff who became friends were there at the funeral home to support me and my family. Their concern did not stop as dad was taken from the facility. If you are looking for a facility to "team care" for your loved one, stop looking, the Lakes of Sylvania should be strongly considered. I will only refer folks to this facility.

The communication which existed between Lakes of Sylvania and her family was also tremendous. Each day an updated Covid report was to be found in my email and a weekly video was posted to inform all families members of the events of the week. I was able the connect in person with the staff whenever I so desired. My dear one got the BEST of care and compassion from everyone within the walls of Lakes of Sylvania. I was a patient at Franciscan Care Center from 10/1/23-11/13/23. I went there primarily to rehab…read moreafter an extended bout of cancer complications. After two weeks, I was transferred to the other side of the nursing home which is long-term. It was an absolute nightmare. The food was almost inedible. Even the staff members said, and I quote, "Even I wouldn't touch that." One is not allowed to shower alone there, which meant I had to wait for someone to be present. I waited EIGHT DAYS for a shower. That's unacceptable. Part of my cancer treatment is a constant round of testing and doctor appointments. It is the staff's job to set up transportation to and from all appointments. Because of their negligence, I missed multiple testing and other appointments that contributed significantly to my care, both long and short-term. Something is seriously wrong with Franciscan when it comes to medications. I am on a palliative pain regime as I have cancer throughout my body. Three times in three weeks, they "ran out" of my pain medications. My night nurse commented that in the two weeks he'd been off, a lot of people were missing their pain and anxiety medications. There's something very wrong with that. I was luckier than many other residents because I'm of sound mind and quite aware of my surroundings. So many others have no one to speak to them or for them and I write this in support of them and their conditions which I'm sure have not changed. Some of the staff were very nice, but others were just plain rude. Credit to the nice ones. I'm also writing this for anyone considering Franciscan Care Center. Please DO NOT put your loved ones in this institution. It looks nice, but it's deplorable. I left without their approval. I refused to stay there one more day. If you have someone in there, pay close attention. Better yet, get them out!
