This highly recommended 1.5 yr old mom-and-pop asado dining experience with a speakeasy vibe should be on your radar if you plan to spend ANY time in Buenos Aires. A word to the wise: book your reservation ASAP. Yes, reservations are required.
Space is limited to about 24 guests for the night. Our group of 21 had a reservation made approximately 4 months in advance. So, whatever you do, don't wait until the last minute.
Our experience began promptly at 7 p.m. when the doors were opened for us. Second note - be on time (i.e. 10-15 min early) as the doors are locked once those waiting have been let in.
The experience started with a welcome introduction and Betty giving an overview of the restaurant's beginnings and what to expect for the evening. And with a wine toast and an empanada sampling, we were off to a pleasant evening of dining.
Once we were all seated, Marcelo began the grilling. Throughout the entire evening Betty, and sometimes Veronica, shared information on cuisine, culture, the various provinces, Argentinian wine, their experience with starting this family business, etc. It was shared that Marcelo won a local award for his asado grilling technique. The owners really make you feel as though a friend has invited you to their home for asado.
The menu included plenty of wine or mocktails for non-drinkers, I don't think that Veronica ever stopped refilling glasses until the end. The courses included blood sausage, pork sausage, grilled tomato, grilled pork belly, grilled ribeye and grilled tritip steak. Homemade chimichurri and grilled onions and peppers were provided as topping for the dishes if you wanted to indulge. The evening finished with a vanilla-chocolate ice cream for dessert.
Overall, a good experience and worth supporting a local mom-and-pop business. read more
