This is our daughter's second year at Beverly Glen Playgroup, and we couldn't be happier. The teachers are warm, patient, and genuinely invested in the kids -- you can feel it every day. One of the biggest surprises for us has been the community. Not only has our daughter made wonderful friends, but we have too -- something we didn't expect at all. The families here are kind, down-to-earth, and truly supportive. Our daughter has grown so much -- she's more confident, social, and excited to go to school every morning. We (and our two kids!) really enjoyed our time at Playgroup. The teachers were all different but so dedicated to creating a safe nurturing space for young learners. The co-op nature of the school allows for deeper relationships with parents by volunteering together and with your kids and their friends working "on the floor" during the school day. It would be easy to fall into the trap of thinking you might not have time for that type of dedication, but trust me, it was one of the most joyful aspects of seeing my kids grow up. If you want a "drop off and forget it" type of school this isn't it. But if you want to be involved in your child's development and create lasting relationships with the teachers and other parents definitely apply. We've seen first hand that kids who leave playgroup and go into kindergarten are some of the kindest and thoughtful kids who see their classmates as a community. When we moved into the neighborhood we heard from neighbors that we MUST apply and it's the best place to honor a play based preschool approach in the area. And they were right. My daughter has attended Beverly Glen Playgroup for nearly 4 years--we started with Parent & Me classes and she will graduate from Playgroup's 3 year preschool program next month. We adore the school, teachers and community. We initially learned about Playgroup from living in the neighborhood (it's a luxury to be able to walk to school in LA!) and hearing long time residents and alumni rave about the school. Playgroup is a small co-op with an incredible teacher/child ratio and a focus on play that you don't find at other preschools. Because of its size, there are lots of opportunities to connect with fellow families. The teachers are attentive, nurturing and kind. The kids spend most days outdoors and there are lots of extracurricular activities like yoga, Spanish, cooking, music and gardening. Playgroup is a truly special place and I'm so glad we found it. We are so grateful to have found Beverly Glen Playgroup for our children, it is truly the most special place and a home away from home for our whole family. Having moved from NYC during the pandemic, finding Playgroup as the first school for our then 3 1/2 year old daughter was the greatest gift. It was a priority for us to find a play-based preschool that fosters emotional development and spends ample time outdoors and Playgroup ticked all of the boxes (and so much more). It is truly a hidden gem in the hills with the most creative, caring, thoughtful, inspiring, and present teachers. The staff are all so dedicated and really take the time to understand and help each and every child individually. Our daughter joined at the very end of the school year, walked in and literally never looked back - she immediately felt so safe and welcome and is excited to go to school every day. We have watched our daughter's confidence and independence grow immensely and can see first hand the incredible impact Playgroup's teachers have had on her self-awareness, emotional regulation, creative thinking, and academic development. They are truly an extension of our family and have supported us through several challenging situations - moving, a new sibling - and are genuinely interested in the individual growth and development of each child. I am a parent who has sent 1 kid through & currently has another child as a student at this very special place. BGPG is a play-based developmental preschool that has the benefits of being a co-op but is also fully staffed with teachers such that it has an *amazing* student to teacher ratio. And whatever positive parenting I can muster, I thank BGPG for it as I've learned from it how to better parent. From my days being at the school on my "work day" (really it's a day to play and learn and do art for the parents too!) and learning how teachers guide the kids, to the parent education workshops, to the info sessions where teachers explain developmental milestones and have an open Q&A....I've learned how to better help my kids through conflict resolution, handling big feelings, talking things out, and be curious learners. Just to let you know how amazing this school and its staff are, even though the kids had spring break a few weeks after the start of shelter in place orders, the teachers continued to create content, do calendar time, sing songs, read stories, educate, hold one-on-one Zoom meetings through what would have been Spring Break & their own down time. They did this just to keep the kids connected, give them a sense of consistency, and give them a sense of normalcy. This is a what a school that puts kids first looks like. And I couldn't be more grateful or appreciative. I found out about BGPG through a former teacher & also through a neighbor who put three kids through it. They both could not stop gushing about it and urged me to sign my kids up. It truly is a gem of a school. The kids will get to do gardening, yoga, & woodworking. Kids getting ready for Kindergarten the following year get the guidance they need to practice holding a pencil, writing letters, & develop early reading skills. In addition, the teachers offer after-school classes that vary from cooking to art to science. There's something for everyone. I can't say enough good things about Playgroup. We will forever carry the lessons we have learned here for the rest of our lives! read more

I can't say enough great things about Beverly Glen Playgroup. Our daughter started over the summer when she was three and spent a year as a student when she was four. It was the best preschool experience we could've had. The teachers are so attentive and in-tune with each student. They have a tremendous about of experience and they bring it with them to school every day. What we love about Beverly Glen Playgroup is the program walks a perfect balance between free play and school time. It's not a free-for-all; nor is it a rigid classroom. It hits the exact right balance of fun, learning, exploration, and structure. The school and program fosters the kind of environment where kids have the tools, resources, and friends to learn and succeed, and you feel like the teachers and director really know every kid well. The school is tucked off of Beverly Glen Canyon and it's a preschool oasis in the middle of the city. The school's director is always responsive, and - because parents work one day a month - it's a great way to meet other families as well. Highly recommend, it's been one of the best parts of being a parent in Los Angeles, which isn't always the easiest task. read more

Put quite simply, Playgroup makes good humans! Because of Playgroup each of my children love learning about the world around them, making new friends and sharing their thoughts and insights. And with Playgroup's developmental/ play-based blend of instruction, my children are deeply empathetic, self-confident, curious, and completely kindergarten-ready. The hybrid co-op model has allowed us as parents to have a uniquely active role in our children's preschool years. Beverly Glen Playgroup is truly the most special preschool around. Private, secure and with the most dedicated, skilled and kind teachers . BGPG truly sets children up for success. My daughter graduated confident, secure, with a love of learning, and strong conflict resolutions skills for an incredibly smooth transition into kindergarten. And my son who is there now, started at 2 years old, with no experience being away from us, was waving goodbye confident and excited at the gate by day 3. Everything from the first transition process to graduation is phenomenal. As a working mom with two kids, while I don't have time for a traditional co-op school, BGPG is the most perfect blend. Wonderful full-time teachers, along with occasional parent work days and school involvement that allow you to truly be a part of your childs experience in such a beautiful way, and form a community of friends for them, and yourselves, to truly last. Everything is organized and well run, safe, and the day focuses on play-based learning, and eases kids into some traditional school work in the most age appropriate way to ensure they're ready for elementary ahead. My daughter went to a very notable preschool in the area pre-covid, and when it was time to enroll her again I was ecstatic to be accepted at Playgroup and never looked back. My daughter is currently in her third year attending this magical school. It is a safe, joyous, and special place. The teachers are so good with helping kids learn through play and know how to kindly address every situation that may arise with toddlers. The co-op requirements are easy to manage and it really helps you get to know other students and their families. The director Shadi goes above and beyond to give one-on-one attention to each family to ensure a positive and trustworthy experience for each child. The "Triangle" or Pre-K work for the older kids is fantastic and our daughter loves to come home and practice her writing skills she has learned at school. Tucked into the Beverly Glen Canyon is the best Pre-School in Los Angeles. Playgroup is a little secret in our city and surprisingly has been around for over 70 years! This Co-op preschool (parents volunteer one day per month) was the perfect educational beginning for our kids and we (along with many other alumni parents) are still involved with the school today! This preschool is part of a warm community nestled in Beverly Glen canyon. It takes a developmental approach to education, letting kids grow and learn through play and interaction with each other. The teachers are patient and lovely, and it's not unusual to find a few kids painting, a few more building a fantasy town and others creating a little play in the school's outdoor theater. I cannot recommend this school more highly. My two kids loved their time here and still have friends they made at Playgroup, many years later. It's a true hidden gem. read more

Our son just started his second year at Playgroup and absolutely loves it. The other day I asked him who his best friend was at school and he mentioned one of his classmates as well as Teacher Fred. The teaching staff is so good and makes every day a memorable one for our son. For a three-year-old, he's somewhat artistic and his abilities have flourished even more at Playgroup. My wife and I have met all of the other parents and it's just a great group who have become close friends. When we first sent our son to Playgroup, I have to admit I just sort of considered it as a place to help him grow and learn social skills. However, through time it has become the setting for some of our favorite memories with our family and friends. And one of our favorites Playgroup events is right around the corner...Halloween and Trick-or-Treating with the neighbors of Playgroup.
