After that I took the fashion design 1 class where we learned how to draft different patterns and sew. The class was so exciting and super-great to be around people that share the same passion as me. After that I wanted to further my skills and I took the fashion design 2 class where we worked on more complex and intricate patterns. After the end of the class I participated in the school fashion show which was WOW! I'm currently designing custom pieces for friends and family and getting ready to start my own clothing line. It offers art classes for all ages, though I suspect most of its students are kids. My six-year-old Leo B. has become something of a regular, and he absolutely loves the place. For my part, I appreciate that there's always a camp available when I need it, sometimes even at the last minute. Popular classes sell out (if you want an anime/Pokémon/Hello Kitty kind of week, get on it), but most don't seem to reach capacity. There are camps for pretty much every school break, including one-day camps for various holidays. Parking is easy, as are drop-off and pick-up. Leo did one day camp last year, then two weeks of summer camp last month. He's a fairly shy kid, and was only willing to sign up because he had friends from school who would be with him. I was pleasantly surprised when he requested to come back for a second week this summer, knowing he wouldn't have any friends in that class. Artist Lab has different themes for each week, and he went for under the sea and pop art. There were different teachers rotating in and out, and to be honest, I never really talked to any of them, though they all seemed quite nice. I dealt with all the administrative stuff through text and email and enjoyed getting photo updates in the text thread. Leo had fun every day, and came home with all kinds of artwork that we're now stuck with until all parties are willing to get rid of them. He made sculptures and paintings and even sewed a little fish. I also liked that he got to learn a little about pop art after a somewhat difficult visit to the Tate Modern earlier in the month. I'm sure we'll be back to Artist Lab next summer, and possibly earlier. Leo will ask for it, and before long, his brother will want in on the action.

In 2022 we found Teacher T online as we required a plan B for the odd day when our usual preschool was closed. Be extraordinary was perfect as they were close to my work and offered drop in classes. Last year, our daughter (now 4) showed a lot more interest in wanting to learn more academically. So we signed up for a regular weekly class but by the end of the year we swapped over to Be Extraordinary entirely as Teacher T's classes were more aligned to our daughter's growing interest. She's thriving academically and more enthusiastic about getting to class each morning which is also a huge plus.

For those of us who are wanting to level up their own skills sets so that they can enhance their career (and progress upwards into new possibilities), this is a great fundamental class that introduces you to the product manager style of thinking. What enriches the class are the in-class discussion topics on trends and sharing of professional and personal experiences. A key take away is to understand the different point of views that people are expressing themselves. Point of views are influenced by experiences, culture, and circumstances, and its always great to have this insight. I also did enjoy Lenworth - he made it relatable and he was quite approachable. First things first: School is about what effort you put into it!…read more That being said, I give five stars to Product School for two reasons: The Instructor and The Cohort. These two items are critical to your success, in addition to what you put into it. I have taken 2 courses so far: Data Analytics and Product Management. Both instructors (Andy Chu and Lenworth Gordon) have been outstanding - they really make Product School worth it from a teaching stand point. Both are established Product Managers and make the course more than the material. Andy specializes in Data Analytics and gives you a good analytical approach to Product First Thinking. Lenworth is on the money in terms of Product Management principles and helped us outside of class to network and grow professionally. Both instructors get you focused for a possible job transition if you put in the effort. I highly recommend both instructors if you see a class available with either of them. The cohorts have been good and the teams focused on classwork. I think we meshed well for the most part and it is good for networking outside of class too. The only downsides about Product School: The courses are fast! You have to put in the time and effort to get every dollar out of them. The teachers will help, but make sure to invest all your available resources to get that value out of your time. Also, the classroom we had was not good. They should use another location (I told them that directly). Additionally, the course material for Data Analytics needs to be built out a little more. Andy really helped to make the course material a better product and deliver true value (see what I did there :)). Just to note, I will be taking 3rd course in Digital Marketing.

I'd like to start this review by listing some positives I've gained from my experience at MUD…read more I learned a lot about sanitation, cleanliness, and etiquette practices of makeup artistry, which is important for setting yourself apart as a professional makeup artist. I also learned plenty of helpful beauty makeup techniques, which confirmed my belief that a professional education is superior to YouTube and TikTok tutorials. Nothing can beat a hands-on education from people who have actually worked in the industry. I'm also grateful to have learned about taxes as a freelancer and union requirements for makeup artists. But unfortunately, this is where my praise ends. I was incredibly hopeful that I'd have a positive and fun time at this school, but sadly, it was the complete opposite. Most of the girls went out of their way to ostracize, bully, and withhold support from me. There was someone in particular who hated me from Day 1, despite knowing nothing about me and having never spoken to me before. At first, I tried to ignore it and act like it didn't bother me. I was optimistic that things would get better, so I chose not to advocate for myself. But everything only got worse over time. I was gossiped and made fun of when I wasn't around, and there were lies and an entire smear campaign spread about me. It got so bad that students in other classes and graduates working at the MUD Shop, who were once kind to me, changed their entire attitude towards me out of nowhere, all at once. To this day, I still don't know what I said or did to deserve this treatment.  Most forms of diversity were welcomed at school, but neurodiversity wasn't one of them. Other students could sense that I was different, and these differences were met with repulsion and fear. When there weren't any teachers around, everyone would fall silent whenever I entered the room. I was fully aware of the way girls would look at each other and laugh when I said something, or the awkward silence that followed when I tried joining in a group conversation. I noticed how most of the girls complimented everyone's makeup looks but withheld any sort of praise from mine. By the time I tried telling the staff about my concerns, the damage was irreparable, and it was already too late. I mean no disrespect towards any of the teachers, and I truly believe they had good intentions and tried the best they could. Even so, I couldn't help but feel like my concerns weren't taken as seriously as they should, especially since the teachers had nothing but positive experiences with the girls bullying me.  Sadly, it takes a lot more than skill to succeed in this industry. Being well-liked by others in school plays a huge role in what career and portfolio-building opportunities are available to you as a makeup artist. My experiences have negatively impacted my ability to do both. Not only that, but the way I view makeup has drastically changed since before I attended MUD. I don't have the same passion, love, and motivation for makeup artistry like I once did. I started school with the expectation that I was going to make friends and have a lot of fun. Instead, I relived the worst parts of my high school days.  Looking back, I wish I had dropped out at the first sign of bullying and gotten a refund for my tuition, especially since it's so expensive. I'm currently attending another school in a different field. My positive experience there contrasts heavily with the one at MUD, and this realization is very painful for me. I'm not writing this review to garner sympathy, but to spread awareness about my experience at school because it matters. I want to save aspiring makeup artists the trouble, money, and heartache of going through anything similar to what I did. If you are autistic or a neurodivergent person, I highly suggest going to another makeup school. It isn't worth wasting your money and losing your love for makeup.

When my daughter first mentioned that she'd like to attend make-up school I was leery. It's an…read moreartsy school. I wondered, would they actually teach her something or would they artfully make what used to be my money theirs, leaving her not much more skilled than when she entered? Well, I was pleasantly surprised. In their Beauty segment, they demand that students be on time, professionally dressed, properly geared and ready to go when class begins. As part of the instruction, they discussed invoicing and tax issues and required, before the completion of the segment, that each student have their own website up and ready to promote their newly developed skills. For their Special Effects segment the dress code's relaxed but students are required to learn skills handling foam, fiberglass, plaster, paints, and flammable resins. And if you're disruptive or don't take the program seriously or refuse to arrive on time and ready to go you may be expelled without a refund as one of my daughter's classmates was. During a time when demanding petty, stupid accommodation seems to be in vogue I love that the program demands a little something from the students and in the most extreme situations will send them home if they refuse to behave like adults. And if the cost seems too much, scholarships are available. We got one from Mike Rowe!
