One awesome martial arts instructor. The real deal. He knows everything about martial arts and it's amazing to be able to learn from him.

I live a few blocks away from the old Knowles Karate location on 3rd and just wanted to pop in here…read moreand say thanks for the hospitality. I took my kids on a walk a couple weeks ago, and we stopped by to look through the full-length windows--a bit of entertainment for two boys under five. We kept going, but on our way home, my older kid asked to go back to the taekwondo studio. He peered through the window again, but this time, a nice woman in uniform invited us to come inside, stroller and all. She explained that they didn't teach taekwondo, but a Korean version of karate. The studio was pleasant, roomy and clean, with mats on the ground and mirrors along the walls. We sat and watched as a few older kids took turns kicking a giant weighted punching bag. My son was fascinated, and I asked about classes. Knowles offers a beginning class for young children, which he immediately asked to take. He has also asked to take ballet and tennis, and I will sign him up for one or all of these things after the summer, when his little brother starts school. Knowles is no longer right next to our house, unfortunately, but it's still close enough that it would be easy to go. I'll keep this place in mind come fall, but in case one of my boy's other whims wins out, I wanted to make sure I noted my appreciation.

There's a dog that is absolutely not trained at all; it runs around the studio and rubs its back on…read morethe mat, causing not only a disturbance during class but also dirty floors. It also barks all the time, which distracts the kids. There is unfair treatment between the different age groups as well. The younger kids are yelled at while the older students are given calmer recommendations. For an establishment that preaches self-discipline, I find it quite interesting that they only try to teach that to the youngest kids. Adults are coming to learn that too, so shouldn't they also be getting yelled at, if that really is the preferred strategy? My kid asked to switch studios because of this; super disappointed.

I've tried a few different dojos, and Tasa Martial Arts is by far the best experience I've had for…read moremy son. Since starting here, my boy has become more disciplined, listens better at home, and has gained so much confidence. The instructor (Master Tinaj) does an amazing job helping kids stay focused while making them feel like part of a team. Classes run over 80 minutes, and the energy and structure are so good that our son is happily exhausted -- he's asleep by 9pm every class night! I'm incredibly grateful for the positive impact this program has had on my little man and highly recommend it to any parents looking for real growth and character development for their child. Don't be the parent who pulls your son out of this class.... men are made by men like Master Tinaj, make a kid who'll protect himself and others, not a kid to make excuses and be weak or soft. It's 2026, level your kid up!

I'm only leaving this review because i believe instructor should not physically assault your children. Specially if you are paying them monthly. I took my son in for a free trial, and within the first 3 min of him "teaching him" what he was suppose to do he yanked my son hair and pulled his head down (my son is 7) aggressively because he did not understand his direction due to his thick accent and mask half up his nose. When I asked him if that was normal for him to do he stated that it's his way of showing discipline, I believe that it should be a strict environment but no one should ever be able to touch your child in a way to cause harm to show authority. Save your money and take your child somewhere else.
