Now that we have become parents, sending our 5 year old son to TDK was one the best decisions ever! All the Masters here are fully trained and equipped to train and mold our little ones. They are patient, kind, and most of all love our kids as much as we do! We look forward to having our little ones grow up and build a strong relationship with the sport here and most importantly, learn to love the sport as much as we did as kids/young adults. They care about the kids and have a passion teaching Taekwondo to the students. The competition team is also very active and competes often. The competition team families are very close and the kids bond by traveling together and supporting one another during tournaments. We are so grateful to have such an awesome Taekwondo family. The Masters are very attentive with all of the students and make sure that they are learning and progressing, not only in Taekwondo, but in their daily life outside of the studio.

It will make a difference. In just two moths I have seen a huge difference in my girl. I asked a few questions on facebook messages before going for the first time and got some pretty quick & earnest responses, so maybe start there. The owner is a bit intense so if he ever starts yelling at you for some strange reason don't take it too seriously or personally, he will forget about it the next day. The studio is clean, spacious and street parking is decent, or with validation parking in the lot is 2 bucks. We're happy we gave this place a shot.

If you want the obstacle course it's an additional $10 per person for 55 mins (super short). If you want to kayak, use the aqua bike or use the paddleboard it's an additional $10 per equipment/item. There is a kiddie area for small and young children. They DO NOT allow outside food or drinks except water! There is a small shop that sells misc. items, snacks & drinks (overpriced). They also had a foodtruck inside that was expensive and the meals didn't come with drinks. They do have plenty of staff and lifeguards there. The entrance fee should of been $15-20. The obstacle course atleast 90-120 mins instead of the 55 mins. Wish the foodtruck came with drinks and was a bigger portion.

My younger son joined not knowing anyone and felt welcomed almost immediately. Both of my boys felt included from day one. The staff is incredibly caring, supportive, and attentive. You can truly feel that they work hard to create a safe, joyful environment for the kids, and as a parent that means everything. The activities are fantastic: well planned, age appropriate, engaging, and fun. The natural setting is also beautiful and feels especially important these days. My boys came home with confidence, stories, friendships, and summer memories they will cherish forever. And the camp spirit is real. I've certain found more members using the facilities but also discovered quite a bit of new programmings like the Pilates classes, mahjong club, live jazz performances and movie nights. I was not really sure about the change at the beginning but I am now fully embracing the new LAAC. Many of the staff and members have been here for a long time and it is nice to be greeted by familiar faces when coming to the club. The restaurants are pretty decent. Love to top my salad with a nice piece of salmon after workout at the Famous Players or have a tasty glass of scotch while enjoying the live jazz performance at the Invention. The sports bar Duke's has great happy hours and fun monthly evening karaoke or chess club meetings. The only thing I complain about is the need for shock absorbance and insulation of the noise or moving the weight station. The northwest corner of the Famous Players near Olive Street shakes every time the weightlifters drop their weights, which is very annoying and distracting for the diners. Feel like the ceiling or floor is going to drop out. No joke. For now, I would sit as far away from the northwest corner as I possibly can. But hope the club would look into it. I have been trying to sign up for the monthly wine tasting but they are always full. Maybe consider having the event more frequently or scale up? Regardless, I am still exploring all the new offerings at the club and really pleased with the Pilates classes and the live music performances. Although I am apprehensive when I first see the co-working space and the influx of new members, I now appreciate the additional events and classes that come with the new members and hope the club continues to do well and do better as I am here to stay.

As usual, water in the room costs money, and there are a few other products with hidden price tags in the room, too. Surprisingly, toothbrush and toothpaste was not provided. The water for showering also doesn't get too hot. In terms of the athletic space, the machines were very easy to access. There was never a wait even on weekend afternoons. The lap pool was my favorite part - clean and calm. There was some miscommunication between the lobby and the store, as one said there is no reservation system but there in fact was. But even when told all the lanes were fully reserved, more than half weren't in use. Parking is a bit of a hassle; for non-members it's definitely not worth it. At the time of visit, the parking machine wasn't working. There are also sperate elevators for parking vs the athletic club / hotel area which was a little confusing. The stair numbers also didn't coordinate the best with actual level.

This is the "Brandon Special" by Esther, not on the menu. I don't know what's in it but it's delish.

PARENTS BE AWARE! First, I wanted to let you know that I am speaking from a parent point of view. Children are so vulnerable and emotionally fragile and don't deserve to be dominated, bullied, abused, scared, forced into depression at a such an early stage in their life. They deserve the best, and all of us should watch them, protect them, respect and teach them to be good, respectful and free off negative influence in their lives. This review has come after a few years in which my child has experienced continuous fear, insecurity, lack of respect, verbal and personal abuse along with depression, behavioral change and restrictions that have been imposed by a particular individual at Jun Chong Martial Arts in Los Angeles California. I can't tell you how many sleepless nights has given us all, trying to figure out what and where it went wrong, and finally freeing our child from the strong indoctrination, cult of guilty and insufficiency, and unethical intimidation tactics that he has unfairly being treated by this person. Now, as an martial artist myself, and also an educator, I know that this environment is mainly based on respect, responsibility and physical and inner grow that must be cultivated in a healthy, fair and balanced environment, that the master(supposedly being equipped with a great deal of respect, passions and ethics) must provide to his students. I am sure that there are plenty of places that provide that, although no one is perfect, and mistakes happen. However, the lever of disrespect, abuse and fear that this individual perpetrates to innocent, still growing, little children is beyond of anyone's wildest nightmares. Here are the facts plain and simple. I will leave you as parents and also as educators to draw your own conclusions. I also appreciate your time to get involved into this matter by commenting, and by this contributing to our parents community from here and everywhere, getting involved in our children lives and creating a better environment for them do develop, and also sanctioning the bad behavior when we see it. Please be your children best advocate! Before I go any further, I want to mention a few names that my child and I are honored to know and work with: master Young(great with kids, very knowledgeable, excellent instructor, fair and kind), master Sean(extremely nice and joyful, professional, and skillful), master Sam. Also first and foremost master Rhee, just a great human being, highly trained not just in the beautiful Martial Arts, but also a great pedagogue, inspiring at every step, loved by everyone and demanding respect through his character and kindness. Also there are a few more masters that train the adult classes that excel in their couching as well and kindness. For these outstanding coaches I would give 100 stars out of 5 if I could! To be honest I thing people come to this place thanks to them. Now the "not so nice" part. The one and only Jun Chong... At start it appears he is just and old man(I use this term respectfully) who've seen a lot and thanks to his skills and experience had made a name for himself. We gave him credit for that. We known him since 2016-2017, and we never guess who would he unfortunately turn to be. We choose that place because it was close to where we lived. Almost a walking distance. When we started, we already new that besides the choreography of a few forms, he wasn't even associated with any of the two reputable Tae Kwon Do internationally recognized associations, but we were OK with that. I just mentioned it because it shows right there that he doesn't have what it takes to be a master. His lack of respect is quite crass, complemented by a humongous cult of personality has added a huge amount of damage to the generations of children that the taught along the years with serious scars of their characters and I personality and firmly believe that he remains morally responsible for the disaster he created. I know people that he "trained" with his tyrant, bullying and humiliating absolutely decadent style, who still carry the personality disorder and depression that this individual has maliciously created. They still claim that they "fear him". My main claim here is that he is disrespectful, full of himself and an unstable teacher, unfit to train children due to his lack of patience, kindness and lack of pedagogic skills. Is this what Martial Arts is all about? Isn't it about promoting respect through example? Isn't this about how a real master operates? Instead he is constantly abusing children verbally, children that as an effect of his unethical actions grow up being insecure, scared and afraid to talk for the truth because old man Chong is always right and reduced them to silence? Wouldn't you teach your child to talk to you and have his/her opinion heard? Do you like your child to be screamed at? I asked my child if the teachers at school scream, and the answer was "never happens".How can you repair what he does to the kids? read more

This school has been in business since 1975. As a martial arts school, that is a really long time under the same owner at the same location. Students from the 70's and 80's will come back to train or enroll their own children because they have such fond memories of the teachers, the classes, and their personals experiences at the school. Grandmaster Chong has nothing but respect from every student he has ever taught. I have never met a more passionate and dedicated man than him, teaching as early as 7:30am and getting home as late as 10pm every day of the week. The school focuses on Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido, but also teaches special classes like Kendo, Jiu Jitsu, and Yoga. Kids classes start as young as 3.5, but adult classes are offered 7 days a week and sometimes twice a day. When you choose Jun Chong Tae Kwon Do, you're paying for quality teaching from a serious grandmaster who will help improve your life not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well. read more

I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu here for about 4 years now. I started at age 56 and I am now 60. Instructor Daniel TCruz is a black belt under Gracie Barra 4th degree black belt Gerson Sanginetto. The level of instruction is top notch. The atmosphere is like family. You will train hard and you will learn much. If you have never tried Jiu Jitsu you should. I play other sports and the training I get here makes those seem easy. I am a much better athlete from this for sure. The training is well supervised and geared for anyone. If you are worried because you are out of shape, or not that good, relax, you are in good hands. Welcome to being a white belt! If you stick it out you won't be in that stage long, you will be amazed at how much you can grow and become a better martial artist. Come join the family and the fun. I attend the jiu jitsu academy with Professor Daniel Tcruz at this location. This class has changed my life. I lost 15lbs and put on significant muscle mass. This class teaches discipline, self defense and mental toughness. I highly recommend trying out this class in a very friendly environment. Jun Chong Martial Arts has different arts not only taekwondo. This is very unusual as most schools want to teach their own or say their own style is the best. It is the only studio in the west side where you can still learn such traditional styles as Kendo and Iaido with real masters of the arts. Grandmaster Chong has been around for a long time and he is still teaching. It has a good adult program. Jun Chong TKD is by far the best school iv ever been to. What separates it from most school is its connection to its traditions. Most martial arts studios dont teach discipline or respect only to fight. Most school have forgotten that the idea is not to fight but at Jun Chong that idea is always around. They have excellent instructors who take their time to making sure you have the right technique and as well as pushing you to go beyond just the technique. read more

Daniel tcruz the Brazilian jiu-jitsu professor is great at fundamentals and basics of old-school jiu-jitsu he's a blackbelt under gerson sanginitto bjj team he's super patient with beginners he's super friendly and phenomenal experience in tournaments and self defense also drills basic wrestling takedowns. He has a children's class also a adults class there both around 1 hour and a half if you want some muscle and good cardio this is the place. read more

They care about the kids and have a passion teaching Taekwondo to the students. The competition team is also very active and competes often. The competition team families are very close and the kids bond by traveling together and supporting one another during tournaments. We are so grateful to have such an awesome Taekwondo family. During that call, I was told there was a 4-week introductory program for $149, with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:00 PM. I was also told that after the introductory period, membership would be $257 per month, with a discounted rate available if I signed up early. Based on that information, I was excited to get started. I confirmed my email, completed the registration process, signed the waiver, and booked what was advertised on the website as a free trial. When I arrived for class, I was informed that free trials were no longer offered and that the $149 introductory program was no longer available. This was surprising given that only about 10 days had passed since I had called to confirm everything. I asked whether I could simply pay for a drop-in fundamentals class since I was already there and on time, but I was told that drop-ins were only available to students with prior experience. As a brand-new student, my only option was to sign up for the full $257 monthly membership. That was the most frustrating part. The lower-cost introductory option was gone, the free trial was gone, and I wasn't allowed to pay for a single class to see if the gym was a good fit. Instead, the only option available was to commit to a full month for $257 without ever having taken a class there. That's a significant commitment for someone trying a new gym for the first time. It's unfortunate because the facility seems to have a great community and many satisfied members. However, having the terms change so quickly after I confirmed them, combined with having no way to try a class before committing to a full membership, left me with a very negative first impression.

They are very welcoming of beginners and have several regulars who have been doing judo for a long time as well. The most senior instructor Kenji Osugi is a real stickler for the rules and will call you out for doing any techniques that might injure yourself or your randori partner. For $50/ month, you won't find a better deal for a martial arts school anywhere else. You do have to help roll up and put away the mats after practice and the instructors expect all the beginners to eventually know the proper way to do this. We love the sensei's/instructors. Each Sensei and all volunteer instructors are super dedicated, it's unbelievable how much time and energy they invest for no money. They spent same energy and dedication with one or 20 kids. This place is all about teaching your child to become a great citizen and a great Athlet with discipline and knowledge . They don't do this for the money, it's about $50-60 a month and you train 3x a week for 1 hour. It's about $5 an hour of judo training. They encourage you to come and train as often as possible and it doesn't matter if you are boy or girl, male female, beginner or advanced. Everyone treats each other with respect and everyone is there to learn. They handle Covid situation perfectly and follow guidelines. During juniors class, 2-3 black belt Senseis are present, with 2-3 volunteers. It's all based on volunteering and not making money, That says everything. This Dojo is one of the old traditional judo dojos. Judo teaches hard work, discipline, patience, builds self confidence and sets goals at school or life. Encourages to be better in academics and everything necessary in life. In this 8 month I see different kids coming with different levels and all of them improve and get better and independent.
