I've had experience with eastern martial arts such as karate, however I never practiced Chinese wushu before. At this school, you will learn the fundamentals of this art in its true and authentic form. Coach Matthew, carrying on the legacy of coaches Eric and Debbie, holds an incredible passion for wushu. He will convey the utterly rigorous and precise forms of this art to each student in a clear and intelligible manner. Coach Matthew's mastery is awe-inspiring and motivates students to sharpen their skill at each class. He is without a doubt a very talented wushu master and a very talented teacher. After training at National Wushu Training Center for a couple of months you will find yourself a part of a community all united by a single devotion to wushu. This will give you that one third space everyone is in search for. It's a circle where friends are made and relationships are built. Practicing graceful and powerful Changquan comes with challenges but at Coach Matthew's class you get to overcome not just your physical limits but learn how to take a break from whatever may be troubling you in your life. It's strengthening and therapeutic. You will never feel like a failure at the class. Coach Matthew will make sure to guide you thoroughly through every combination, routine and even smallest movement that is there with great attention and attitude. Training here doesn't require a lot. The classes are very affordable. You don't need to get into a fascinating physical shape prior to taking your first class. All you need is to show up. At least once a week. And then Wu ("martial") Shu ("art") can become your real lifelong Kung Fu.

I cannot imagine ever stopping my qi gong and tai chi practice. This is why-- · The club and tea room are inspiring spaces that are beautifully and carefully designed and decorated. The mood and ambiance are of the highest quality. If you are a tea connoisseur and love traditional Chinese tea, you will deeply appreciate their collection. It is by far the best tea I have ever had in my life! · The students have become sincere friends and I look forward to seeing every one of them in class. Not everyone can become a student and part of the club. You will first meet with Sandy or Dima and then if you qualify, you would meet with Master Valery who would then decide whether or not this is the right fit for you. Everyone here is a stellar human being with a deep commitment to the practice and teachings. · Master Valery is a remarkable teacher -- one of my favorite parts of membership is his monthly lectures. I started coming to the temple in June of 2021 when things were opening up after COVID. I wasn't looking per se to join a martial arts studio. What I found was not only a lot of excitement to learn the inside-out benefits of medical Qi Gong but also an allure towards learning Shaolin principles, secrets and routines. I became a disciple within 3 months and have been learning more ever since. I'm learning my 2nd routine now that I've grown stronger with the Wu Fa (animal) poses. Growth is slow, but if you are patient and follow through, looking back only a year I've learn so much. [Review #800] 2023-088…read more On my 800th review, coincidentally it's also my 88th for 2023, I'm giving it to Lion's Pride Kung Fu because Asians/Chinese believe 8 (八) sounds like fortune (發). I learned of the kung fu (功夫) studio through my son's classmate's mom, Lisa W., who takes classes with her son. I was really impressed with a video of her in a recent competition so I had my son take a couple of trial lessons to garner his interest, especially since he's been going to Chinese school to learn Cantonese... he's been interested in all things Chinese. We met Aaron on the first trial day; super friendly guy, answering all my questions & sharing his personal experience that I want to sign-up too (sadly, I injured my neck & most recently my shoulder that I'm holding off for now). During the week long trial sessions, M was literally learning trial by fire during the 2 days he attended. I thought I knew my son's capabilities & limitations, but he proved me wrong. I thought 師傅 (Sifu) Jeremy Hector would deconstruct the exercise for the newcomers, instead they're expected to follow along with 師傅 providing the necessary adjustments/corrections. I expected M to be frustrated (he was), but persevered & pushed through it, as did my husband. 師傅 is strict & professional, yet his teaching style still keeps the kids & adults engaged. Can't say it looks fun, but I'm very impressed with the class work ethic. In a short month, M learned the "Stance Exercise" ("步法"; 20 moves) & "Salute Act" (42 moves). It's quite impressive for an 8 YO to remember the order of each move & his fluidity as he transitions from one to the next! My husband also signed up so he can get some exercise in; they attend twice per week in the beginner family session on Monday & Wednesday evenings; no Saturday mornings due to Chinese school. I like the idea of combining Chinese school & the kung fu studio's teachings & customs, particularly on morality. In traditional Chinese schools of martial arts, it's not just a means of self-defense, or physical & mental training, but also a system of ethics aka "martial morality" (武德), which focuses on 2 aspects: 1) virtue of mind & 2) virtue of deed. The 1st is meant to cultivate the inner harmony between the emotional mind (心: heart) & the wisdom mind (慧; intelligence); 2) concerns social relations, with the eventual goal of "no extremity" (無極) -- closely related to the Taoist concept -- where both emotions & wisdom are in harmony. In Chinese school, respect (尊重) is taught, to your family, elders, others, & yourself. My rambunctious 8 YO is slowly growing into his own: respectful, dedicated, honorable. I'm so proud of M's recent growth & change for the better. 師傅 Hector has been a martial artist for most of his life, devoting over 2 decades, studying various Chinese Kung Fu styles with well-respected masters. Lion's Pride offers traditional Kung Fu, as well as training in several styles of Chinese martial arts, self-defense, weapons, & Tai Chi. Some styles (as listed on their website): * Northern Shaolin * My-Jong Law Horn * Tai Chi & Seven Star Praying Mantis * Yang, Chen, & Do Gar Tai Chi Chuan * Classical Chinese Weaponry (練兵器) * Chi Kung * Traditional Chinese Lion Dance If you're looking to learn Chinese Kung Fu (功夫) or a change in how you exercise, come check out Lion's Pride Kung Fu. 師傅 Hector provides his guidance & extensive knowledge to exercise your mind, body, & spirit, alongside a whole group of supportive friends to help you succeed!

He attends class 3-4 times a week for the 45 minute training sessions routinely, much like going to a gym, not being relegated to one simple class, but garnering frequency in learning Kung Fu. I like the flexible format of this school. Kung-Fu is a long term martial art, not about belt promotions, nor expediting sparring, competition and the glitzy weapons or flashy moves. It's what I really like about Kung Fu. Our son has leaned how to count in Chinese here. He went from a beginner who knew nothing to a student who can at least memorize the complete 20 sequenced set of positions / moves to do them with fluid grace correctly, which I'm impressed by. I recommend this school still, after being here for a year. I'm sure the best has yet to come and it's a long road for continual development, improvement and new aspects (like Lion Dancing or Ancient Chinese Weapons or even sparring with other students) to patiently await earning a way towards as a student. I'm very satisfied by Sifu Hector's ability to teach my son Kung Fu, given the fact that he's not the best or easiest student of anything at age 6 when it comes to focus, discipline and putting forth focused efforts.
