I went to this Dr. Gabbaypour after being referred for an impacted upper wisdom tooth. My general dentist wasn't comfortable removing it due to its position, so I was sent here. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. During the consultation, I felt judged and talked down to for not having my wisdom teeth removed earlier. I was told that at 31, I was "old" for this procedure, and that complications would be higher because I hadn't done this when I was younger. This felt unnecessary and dismissive, my teeth had never caused issues before, and I had only ever been advised to remove them if they became a problem. I also felt that there was little acknowledgment that not everyone undergoes procedures like this early on, whether due to personal, medical, or financial reasons. The tone came across as more critical than informative. Paying to have all 4 teeth removed at once when you're young is not only unnecessarily traumatic, but it is EXPENSIVE. That is why my parents never had me do it at a young age. I was also told that I had to be put under anesthesia for the procedure. I explained that I had all my other wisdom teeth removed with only local anesthesia and was hoping to do the same. However, I was told that wouldn't be possible in my case. No clue why. Just sounded like he wanted to charge the extra that it would have cost and make some extra money. Uncomfortable with both the tone of the appointment and the insistence on general anesthesia, I decided to seek a second opinion. Another oral surgeon confirmed that general anesthesia was NOT required for this procedure and successfully removed the tooth using only local anesthesia. I'm sharing this so others feel empowered to get a second opinion, especially if something doesn't sit right. I went to Dr. Gabbaypour to have 3 wisdom teeth removed. While the surgery itself seemed to go fine, the aftermath was a nightmare that lasted over 2.5 agonizing months due to Dr. Gabbaypour's negligent post-operative care. In the weeks following the surgery, I experienced excruciating pain and swelling so severe that I could barely open my mouth to eat. My recovery was clearly not normal, yet on multiple visits back to Dr. Gabbaypour's office, my concerns were brushed aside with a cursory examination, I was misdiagnosed with TMJ disorder and prescribed powerful pain killers to deal with the problem. The lack of proper evaluation and care from Dr. Gabbaypour allowed what was actually a severe throat infection to go undiagnosed and untreated for months. I suffered through 10 out of 10 levels of pain and was ill 3 times due to my lowered immune system. It wasn't until I ended up in the emergency room (less than 2 days after seeing Dr. Gabbaypour for the last time) that the throat infection caused by the wisdom teeth removal was finally correctly diagnosed - within 10 seconds of a doctor looking into my mouth. If Dr. Gabbaypour had taken the time to thoroughly evaluate me instead of making snap judgments, I could have avoided this entire prolonged ordeal. In the ER, I underwent an extremely uncomfortable drainage procedure, and weeks of subsequent rounds of antibiotics and steroids to treat the neglected infection. I highly caution anyone against using Dr. Gabbaypour for any oral surgery or dental work. His negligence caused me incredible suffering that could have easily been prevented with competent post-operative care. Do not let this dentist perform work in your mouth. read more

Dr. Gabby is a gem and simply the BEST oral surgeon in the world. He removed 4 wisdom teeth for my daughter Sophie 2 weeks ago and we did our post op today. The surgery was very hard as all 4 teeth were completely impacted but everything went perfectly and she is healing beautifully! We are so pleased and so grateful for Dr. Gabby's hard work. EXCELLENT SURGERY, NIGHTMARE BILLING Loved Dr. Gabbaypour! He did an outstanding job on our wisdom teeth removal. Very responsive with follow-up communications and quickly accommodated a follow-up appointment when lingering pain turned out to be a dry socket. But his office's billing practices are predatory at worst, negligent at best. The office required us to prepay $1,115 in estimated out-of-pocket costs for the in-network procedure. Only after scrutinizing many insurance EOBs did we notice a billing code that was included on our prepayment charges but missing from the EOBs. The office had us pay $450 out of pocket for it and never submitted it to insurance. Dr. Gabbaypour's billing clerk told us our insurance would not cover the code so she didn't bother submitting a claim for it. That's bad practice in itself. But the code was listed as covered under our insurance so we insisted she submit it. Sure enough, insurance covered it and Dr. Gabbaypour accepted the $128 allowed amount for the in-network procedure. The EOBs showed our total cost sharing was $621 so we were owed $492 reimbursement. The billing clerk strung us along for weeks, asking for more time to receive the final payment from insurance. After many, many calls, she finally said she would get our check in the mail -- for $150. We insisted on $493. She offered $300. We insisted again; this is not a negotiation. Finally she agreed to send the full $493. If we had not asked for a printout of the prepayment dental codes, or if we had not closely scrutinized the EOBs, we would have overlooked the missing claim and Dr. Gabbaypour would have unjustly pocketed several hundred dollars. We've asked the state attorney general to audit the practice because we believe other patients may have been victimized. Dr Gabbaypour is AMAZING. Wisdom teeth extraction was seamless. I had all 4 impacted and bottom ones both touching the nerve and my recovery was easy. The experience itself - I went in and he let me know of the risks because he legally has to and then I was sedated, woke up and my teeth were out. The recovery was fine I did not need more than ibuprofen and ice packs daily. He is always available and responsive via his cell for any concerns you have during the recovery. Quick disclaimer this is not about the dentist or the office itself, but about the receptionist who handles scheduling on the phone. I called to inquire about wisdom teeth removal and had pretty basic questions, about the procedure and pricing. She was EXTREMELY rude to me, in a way that I never experienced before when I was just asking normal questions about how the process is. After hearing many unpleasant stories about wisdom teeth removals, I was just terrified to even think that I had to extract all 4 of my wisdom teeth. However, I had the most amazing experience at Dr. Gabbaypour's office. Starting from the staff to the doctor himself- everyone was extremely attentive and gave me great care. The first consultation was very quick, without any waiting lines, during which the doctor examined me and ensured that I will be fine, even if I take all 4 at the same time. The surgery took about an hour which was done with anesthesia, and afterwards I was ready to go home without any complications. To my surprise, I did not even swell for a bit, did not bleed, and I was ready for my daily activities after a few hours of rest. The doctor even called me in the evening to see how I am doing (thank you!!!) Whenever my jaw started to hurt, I took Ibuprofen and the pain went away. I had my surgery on a Friday and on Monday I did not have any pain at all. So, if you've been avoiding to go and have your wisdom teeth extracted for months (like me), are terrified of these types of experiences (like me), Dr. Gabbaypour will completely change your perspective about this. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Gabbaypour and his office. My first procedure with him was just extraction of two impacted wisdom teeth. Every single person I talked to beforehand warned me about how much pain I'll be in for a few days after. Well, not with Dr. Gabbaypour's work! It was one of the easiest procedures I've ever had. No pain or discomfort whatsoever!! They gave me prescription strength Tylenol just in case, but I didn't even use it. Everyone at work was surprised that I was completely fine and working as usual the next day. Plus, everyone is always very polite at his office and happy to answer questions. The surgery needed general anesthesia, and when I woke up I was in a really comfy sofa-like chair with a blanket (so sweet). They told me to take my time relaxing until I was ready, and then helped me up and out with my dad who was driving me. I came to get a couple wisdom teeth removed. My procedure, as far as I know since I was out, went perfectly. No pain, I ate dinner that night. No complications (except discovering I'm allergic to the antibiotics). That counts for a lot, obviously. However, customer service-wise, I had a very rough time. I wasn't given an option regarding anesthesia, they just stuck a needle in me and put me out without any explanation.. so I had to foot the bill since general anesthesia isn't usually covered. The office wouldn't call me back regarding a doctor's note for the necessity of general anesthesia to submit to the insurance company, even though I tried half a dozen times over the span of several months. They wouldn't send me my xrays until I requested them a few times either. For my follow-up visit, I was told it would be a quick 5-minute visit. I waited for at least 30 minutes and had to go out TWICE and put more quarters in the meter. When the doctor finally came in (he was talking on his cell outside when I'd walked in earlier), he made no apologies for the delay. read more

My 82 year-old mother had fractured her tooth under her crown. Not good news, and her periodontist confirmed that the tooth could not be saved. Her general dentist referred her to his #1 referring oral surgeon, Dr. Garbriel Gabbaypour. We were able to fill in their new patient forms online, which is very convenient! Mom had a very curved root and both her general dentist and her periodontist said that this would not be an easy extraction. She was pretty anxious about this appointment as you can imagine. I went with her on this last Monday and she was treated so well by the entire staff. She didn't require sedation, just localized numbing, and Dr. Gabbaypour had no troubles with this tricky tooth! Mom was sent home with clear post op instructions, lots of extra gauze and a follow up visit scheduled in one week. The following morning, Mom reported that there was no pain from the extraction and she had just taken one regular strength Tylenol. Dr. Gabbaypour is a genuine sweetheart. Going in was quick, convenient, and to the point. No information was misleading and the experience was delightful. Yep, delightful is the word and I actually went in for surgery two weeks ago! Trust me when a random bubble pops out of your lower lip- called a mococele- there's nothing but panic and discomfort. Thanks to a wonderful referral from Dr. Harouni I was able to work with Dr. Gabbaypour. He explained the procedure that needed to be done and clearly displayed the costs as well. I have seen Dr. Gabbaypour a total of four times. Not only does he take the proper time for consultation, but actually performed the procedure, and maintained adequate follow ups as well! Being within the service industry I know how very important we all like to feel knowing somebody cares to go out of their way for us- and Dr. Gabbaypour does exactly that! The ladies within the office are all so wonderful to work with as well! They will make you feel extremely comfortable. This is not a review about a medical procedure that was done, but rather about one that was supposed to happen and didn't. FEB 13, 2020 - THURSDAY I was referred to Dr. Gabbaypour's because my front left tooth (#9) was undergoing resorption and needed and extraction/implant. They took panoramic x-rays ($300 from my Delta Dental insurance pool). Dr. Gabbaypour came into my room. I don't recall if he actually introduced himself, but he seemed noticeably "distracted". He looked at the x-rays and said the norm for this procedure is to have the tooth extracted and implant put in at the same time. However, I didn't have enough bone matter to support the implant and he would have to put in bone graft. My dentist would have to make a "flipper" (false tooth) that I could put in immediately after tooth extraction. This would have to heal a few months before the implant could be inserted. In addition, Dr. Gabbaypour said I would have to be put under anesthesia as opposed to a local numbing. And should do it soon because the tooth was deteriorating above and below the gum line. I was leaving town the following week for a week. Dr. Gabbaypour didn't want to do the surgery before I left. He wanted my dentist to bond the front four teeth for stability as he felt the tooth could break off at any time. He to call him after the bonding and impression "flipper" to set up surgery. FEBRUARY 17, 2020 - MONDAY Had front four teeth bonded and impression taken. ($200 out of pocket for bonding only) Called Dr. Gabbaypour's office to schedule surgery. Kim took my call. She tried to get Dr. Gabbaypour to the phone, but was unable to. She said they would call me later that day to set it up. Never heard back. FEBRUARY 18, 2020 - TUESDAY I called Dr. Gabbaypour's office. Spoke with Jessica. Told her I was waiting to hear back. She tried to get Dr. Gabbaypour to the phone, but was also unable to. She said they would call me later or tomorrow. Never heard back from them. FEBRUARY 22 - FEBRUARY 29 OUT OF TOWN. Never heard from Dr. Gabbaypour. I've never had to call a doctor's office repeatedly to schedule a surgery. This did not instill the confidence I needed for this. I moved on and started the process over again. MARCH 3, 2020TUESDAY I meet new dentis t, who refers me to his oral surgeon. I explained to him what I just went through with Dr. Gabbaypour. He assured me his surgeon would return calls. MARCH 4, 2020 WEDNESDAY I meet new oral surgeon. He was personable and thorough. He took his own set of panoramic x-rays. (Another $300 hit)Because this tooth's resorption was advancing, current x-rays would be better than even ones from two weeks earlier. Basically reiterated what Dr. Gabbaypour said about my tooth. He gave me the option of anesthesia or local. He was confident a local numbing was all I needed and the extraction/bone graft was fairly routine. So I scheduled surgery for Saturday March 14, 2020. SAME DAY - I filed a grievance against Dr. Gabbaypour with Delta Dental against to get the $300 credited back to my insurance pool. MARCH 13, 2020 - FRIDAY Delta Dental denied my grievance since Dr. Gabbaypour actually did provide the x-rays. I called Dr. Gabbaypour's office. Spoke with Vicky in billing. I relayed all of the above and asked that my $300 be returned. She said things have been crazy in the last week with the Coronavirus. I reminded her that this was a month ago before the virus panic occurred. She went to get Dr. Gabbaypour and this time he came to the phone. Before I could say a word, he asked if I got my flipper and that I could have surgery on Monday. I told him that I already having surgery the next day and that I would like my $300 x-ray money returned as his office dropped the ball. Then, he asked why my new surgeon didn't request his x-rays. As stated above, I said because it had been two weeks and my resorption was aggressive, so he needed current x-rays. I asked why his office didn't call me back as it was my intention to have him do the surgery. Then, Dr. Gabbaypour disclosed that he had been in and out of the office in the last month because a close family member had been diagnosed with a life ending disease. I'm not revealing which family member or what condition because it wasn't my business to know in the first place and isn't my place to divulge private information publicly. He apologized that his office dropped the ball, but would not return my insurance money. He had an opportunity to do the right thing, and elected not to. He again offered to do the surgery which made no sense. Never give someone a third chance to do what they were supposed to do two times before. He may get five stars for his surgical skills, but he gets zero stars for conducting business in unprofessional manner. Above all, he has an excellent reputation amongst other dentists which accredit him further. He is patient-friendly, he listens, he is reliable and trustworthy. These are the important qualifications that are not easy to find in a medical filled in LA which most doctors all they want are money and they don't care about their patients. With Dr. Gabbaypour, I saw a true human behind the dentist who genuinely cares about his patients and that alone make him a credit to his profession. So far so good. Today was my first visit. I was in the building on another appointment so I decided to stop procrastinating about having an impacted, infected wisdom tooth removed (which I am convinced is to blame for recent health issues) It is only Tuesday but I found the office closed. The very nice office manager let me in anyway and explained it's their casual Friday day to catch up on paperwork. What a brilliant idea! The office is beautiful in a great building and I got an early morning appointment to get seen by Dr Gabbaypour and get this unpleasant situation behind me. I already feel less anxious and confident it will be less dramatic than I'm making it out to be. So far so good. read more

I'm terrified of being under the knife as I've never done that before, got over my fear of needles only last year. Had two wisdom teeth growing in *sideways* at the bottom and two single root teeth normal but with cavities at the top. I heard horror stories of swelling, nerve damage and Vicodin, but it had to be done. After my primary dentist suggested to me someone that was unlicensed, I withdrew my request and went with Dr Gabbaypour. Best. Decision. Ever. During the consultation he was very serious, noted that I was a little late with my extractions and also said he'd need an extra x-ray in order to make sure he doesn't cut the nerve on the sideways ones. He is very cautious, which is exactly what I look for in my doctors and dentists. Denti-Cal / Medi-Cal didn't find it 'medically necessary' to cover that x-ray so I had to pay $550 out of pocket. I don't make a lot of money now but my savings are on point. I trust him based off my first impression so I paid it with no hesitation. IV sedation, don't remember a single thing other than trying to read the label on a can of Lysol after the surgery. I'm posting this a day after and to my surprise I'm one of the VERY lucky few in the world that don't have any swelling or need for painkillers. And I had two sideways teeth which are complicated to extract. He nailed it. To anyone that wants the /best chance/ at having oral surgery with an excellent outcome, he's the best on this coast.
