Ann greeted me at front desk of MRI and reviewed my name address DOB address contact person area of body needing MRI and printed out my prescreening which I did the night before. Pam, one of the techs brought me back to a little room with 3 chairs including a wider one to accommodate larger body types to introduce herself and review each screening question. From there I was instructed to change into hospital scrubs leaving only underpants and socks and my shoes (my choice as they don't offered hospital socks. Across from the dressing room are lockers which have hooks and shelves. Two bathrooms are located there as well. From there you are brought into the room with MRI machine where you leave your shoes, eyeglasses and locker key with staff. You get set up on theta le with warm blanket, bolster pillow under your knees for comfort and offered an eye mask and headphones with background music. Pam and Jennifer talked me through everything going on and it was a pleasant experience. For me I just can't open my eyes so the mask and headphones and a little Ativan 0.5 mg taken about 45 prior to (had my wife drive me and stay in waiting room where Ann offered everyone a bottle of water which was a nice touch). Test was over after about 45 minutes. Highly recommend. Awesome staff.

The check in said they would send a note to the lab staff of what I was wearing and my level of deafness. They come out quickly wearing masks, call names which I can't tell the names called. As I try to get their attention, they quicky turn , walk away. I do everything to help myself, I sit near the door facing them, I read lips( impossible with masks). After long wait time seeing others that came after me go in, I twice was able to finally get one's attention, and find that yes my name had been called earlier. I go again today for tests, just don't know what to do.

I was treated like a dog, and lesser than the staff- especially by the security guard Lucas (Fabio). They did not even allow me to call my federal agent I spent 5 days being lied to and neglected without sunlight. Mentioned security guard was anything but trauma informed and should not be working in that unit let alone that hospital. I came in for safety and left more suicidal that I came in with. People started calling missing persons reports on me until the Deputy of Beverly PD & Beth Israel's PD came to make sure I was still alive as they wouldn't let me call my agents. How I was treated was inhumane and I left with a boxer fracture. Even the representative from Beth Israel told me "if you ever need to go to the hospital go to Salem". *mic drop*

There were no ED rooms or even hall beds, so my mom got her vitals taken, an IV put in to draw blood, and then sent back to the waiting room for the duration. Same deal with all the other patients. The big TV was on the Discovery Channel equivalent of COPS the entire time so the room was stuck with a 50 inch TV with a bunch of aggressive cops and prison guards yelling at people and chasing down and tackling people on body cam footage - not exactly soothing or good for a room of people who essentially couldn't leave. The ED tech did her absolute best to manage expectations, but we never saw a doctor. We saw a PA 2am who basically agreed that the instructions we got from the on-call neurologist six hours earlier were .... fine. If we wanted to wait and get a CT scan, it would be easily another 4 hours. So we gave up and went home, untreated. Their Press Gainey score in the email request for review the hospital sent was conveniently worded so that there was no way to say "wanted to be seen by a doctor and never saw one."

It's on the national register of historic places . It closed in the early 90s and interestingly enough it's now apartments. I can only imagine the stories from the tenants here as this place has a long history filled with deaths and the mentally ill . The only remnants of this interesting piece of history is a small memorial and the cemetery. The memorial features pictures and a brief history of the hospital . If you walk past the memorial you may notice a trail that runs along a house. The entrance to the cemetery is located down a steep path on the southeast side of the former state hospital property and is marked by a large boulder etched with the words "Danvers State Hospital Cemetery: The Echoes They Left Behind." The cemetery contains the graves of patients who died at the hospital. The people buried there are believed to be patients who didn't have any relatives to claim their body. I found it to be a very solemn yet peaceful space . Please be respectful if you visit.
