I've always been a fan of the Cupcake Shoppe in Toronto. Prairie Girl is nice, but a lot of frosting. When I lived in Montreal, my go-to cupcake place (and probably my overall favourite cupcake shop) was D'Liche, which sadly didn't make it through the covid quarantine. In London, I enjoyed Chick Cake Boss and when I came to Hamilton, I went to Bitten. However, none quite lived up to D'Liche, or even the Cupcake Shoppe...until Beyond the Batter. One bite and I deemed it my new favourite cupcake place. I had been drooling over the flavour list for probably a week now and finally convinced my brother to go grab some. We ended up with an assortment of flavours that not only sound delicious but look lovely. Work fast though because my brother got to the shop about 2.5 hours after they opened and a few flavours were already sold out. He got home with the cupcakes while my sister was on a work call. We are impatient though so we decided to try a cupcake anyways and just grabbed the one we knew she'd have no interest in - Macaroon, a coconut cake cupcake topped with chocolate frosting rolled in toasted coconut. We split it and both fell in love at first bite. My brother is not a frosting fan so for him cupcakes are all about the cake and he has been raving about how light and fluffy, yet flavourful the cake was all afternoon. As for me, I love frosting and cake and the flavours were just so spot on and rich that I was happy. Often frosting/icing can be end up tasting like icing sugar above all else but that wasn't the case here at all. When my sister got off her call, we went in for a second - Men are from Mars, a chocolate cupcake topped with malt frosting dipped in a chocolate shell with a caramel centre. It sounds like a lot but once again they nailed each flavour and they all worked together so well. I normally avoid chocolate cakes but this one was delicious and I'd definitely recommend. In fact, I'd recommended everything I've tried thus far and I'm sure that opinion isn't about to change. read more

Tried the margherita cupcake and it was absolutely delicious! Love the contrast of sweet and salty flavours! Very moist cupcake as well. Not dry at all. Service is just okay but you will thoroughly enjoy the cupcakes! read more

Went in today for the first and last time. Had one of the cream filled cookie sandwiches and it was disgusting. Very stale. The server was also very rude. I asked for a small bag (they didn't have any) so I said just a napkin would be fine and she proceeded to put the cookie into a large cupcake box. I told her I didn't need the box and she pretty just much snapped at me saying "well we don't have any bags". Yup. Got it. Out of bags. I just need a napkin. Chill. read more

My wedding just passed on Sunday May 18th and Beyond the Batter supplied my cupcakes. I was happy with the cupcakes themselves; they were delicious. However the service was less then spectacular beside the confusion of my wedding cupcake consultant leaving and not being contacted to let me know, I hadn't been told about needing to come in certain days so when I came in to pay the balance and drop of my coloured ribbon the staff there knew nothing. I mean nothing and when they found my order slip a lot of information was missing. I was contacted by the new wedding cupcake consulting and that had gone fine until it came to the lilies I had order; the number decided was 9 then the next day I get an email (yes an email) saying I had to have 36 lilies. That had not been the decision so I called the owner in Ottawa to solve things. I got my original order in the end. The wedding day came and went and I went to return the cupcake stand back and once again the staff was less then knowledge about wedding stuff. I waited well the staff searched through the book for my order, not finding it, then after searching through some other things she called the wedding consultant; in the end my order was in the back I assume as in had chocolate on it (I assumed they had it out when they were filling the cupcake order). I suggest some better staff training because even though the cupcakes are amazing customer service goes a long way. read more

The cupcake part of the bakery is amazing. Though the wait time and the email process for specialty cupcakes is annoying. But all in all a good place to get your cupcake fix. read more

This is a great cupcake shop! The best part about it for me is that it is PEANUT/NUT FREE! As a person who is allergic to peanuts and nuts, I am grateful that I have found a bakery that accommodates my severe allergy. They also do GLUTEN FREE cupcakes if you order ahead. If you need a large order of cupcakes, you just have to call a few days ahead and they will be ready for you.Also, the facility is very clean. The reason that it lost a star is because their frosting is always very hard. If you prefer your buttercream frosting to be hard, then you will enjoy these cupcakes. However, I prefer soft, creamy icing. All in all, if you have an allergy to peanuts/nuts, this is the place to go! read more

Cupcakes were dry and fell apart couldn't even unwrap it and hold the cup cake in my hand because it all crumbled and fell apart. Taste like box mix cake. Ordered a brownie it was burnt and disgusting. The brownie tasted exactly like a box mix. Guess they buy box mixes make them and then sell it for more. Customer service is shit, came in lady was on the phone for 5 minutes taking another order, didn't even acknowledge me and say sorry one second, nothing! Will never ever go there again. read more
