There are a lot of kid activities but unless it gets updated one visit will be enough. I think it has potential to be great but there are about half of the items that were broken or stuff out that shouldn't be out, areas not closed off. There is a series of non-stop videos on the Great Lakes, maps, history, gift shop, etc. Everything is labeled and explained. The second part is the ship - Colonel James M. Schoonmaker. Both are self-guided tours. The indoor museum will take you about an hour if you read everything and see some of the videos. The ship, however, will take you at least an hour plus depending on how depth you want to know about the ship. The ship has two levels; bottom level is where the engines and storage are located. The top level is the deck that leads you to their living quarters. The living quarters is two stories with no elevators. The bottom level is accessible only by a steep, narrow iron ladder.

I found the Merry-Go-Round Museum online while looking up things to do in the area. Honestly I…read morewasn't sure what to expect but once I saw the great Yelp reviews, we decided to stop in. It ended up being one of our favorite experiences in Sandusky! It's small but mighty with tons of intricately carved merry-go-round animals, some of which were crafted in the early 1900s. I learned quite a bit and the displays were so fun to look at. Your admission ticket includes 1 ride on the carousel which is in the center of the small museum (you can pay for additional rides). They made an announcement that they were starting it up so we took our spots - Nate got on a seahorse and I sat in a chariot. When I tell you that thing goes fast, I mean it. I think the operator said it gets up to 7 mph! I actually started to get a bit dizzy, but it was so fun and brought me so much joy. I couldn't stop smiling the entire time. They have an on site woodworker/carver which was so cool. The building that houses the museum is an old post office and it's definitely seen better days (it's 100+ years old), so I hope they can continue to house this museum there!

The entrance is mammoth animal bones. The upper floor has pterosaurs with flying wing. The collection includes sea creatures, land animals and predators, small animals and more. We parked at the Palmer lot, which has free visitor parking, as well as permit parking if you have a blue (or gold) pass. The museum is easy to navigate and beautifully appointed. There's a little bit of everything, but no topic is too in-depth. So, if you're looking for a deep dive, this might not be the museum for you. My child love the "Please touch" signage, and this was a nice way to physically interact with the displays. We plan to return to see a show at the planetarium, which requires a ticket.

One interesting and impressive fact, their well was inside the house. This way they didn't have to go out in Michigan winters to get their water. My daughter is a big fan of old homes especially Victorian style homes. While it's a Victorian style house it also had Italian influences in the structure. The art gallery had a World War I exhibit (100 year anniversary), sculptures and a quilt exhibit.

She was clearly having a terrible day and decided to take it out on anyone with a baby. When I approached with my stroller, she huffed and puffed and snapped, "We're trying to limit strollers, so you can leave it with me." Excuse me? Leave my grandbaby with you? I don't even know you, lady, and based on your attitude, I wouldn't trust you to water a plant. Calm down, Stephanie Swift, you're a museum guide, not a prison warden. I wasn't asking to bring in a pack of wild dogs, just my sleeping grandchild. The whole experience left me wishing I'd just stayed home and saved myself the aggravation.

I was with the littles, young elementary school aged kids, and they absolutely had the best time. This place was adorable, packed with so much for young kids to touch, see, experience, play with and play on and we were able to get through and do most of it. They loved the tree, the camp site, the plane, the kitchen, the waterfall area, the bunk beds, the fish, and fishing simulation, the driving simulations, this was a magical place for them. Since we had limited time and a big group, I did not get a chance to try the driving experiences, but it is only $5 admission. The only thing I wish they would have as a parent, and maybe this feasible for them would be to have a cafeteria where they actually sold food and drinks. You have to bring your own food and if you have a water bottle, they put it away for you since nothing is allowed on the attractions.

This is a very Ohio-centric experience with mentions of the many other Ohioans who have also been in outer space. The museum is thoughtfully laid out, includes a few interactive exhibits, has a big parking lot including a covered picnic area, and is fully handicap accessible. Many fascinating artifacts such as the spacecraft tool kit, space foodstuffs, and even, uh, an article used by the astronauts to go to the bathroom. Also a lovely collection of artwork. And of course, the moon rock. The 30-minute documentary is a must. It plays continuously in a little theatre, so if you come in half way through just stay put and wait for the replay. It is very moving in that it captures the unity of the country in following the amazing mission to the moon as President Kennedy had determined it would happen before the decade was out. If you have any memory of the moon landings you will get a little teary-eyed. The walkway to enter the little theatre gives you the impression you're floating in space surrounded by millions of stars! They also have recordings of the crew of Apollo 8 (commanded by Jim Lovell of Ohio) broadcasting the Bible reading "in the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth..." They were the first human beings to see the earth from that vantage point. This was also thrilling to hear. We took our time to read the various information cards by each exhibit so out visit took about 90 minutes. I wish there was a bit more to see and/or that the film was longer. I feel the admission is a bit on the high side. But nonetheless I'm glad we went. Within a mile of the museum are some local photo ops: a statue of a friendly waving Neil Armstrong, and a giant space helmet reproduction with imprint of the moon footprint and other things. Space-related stuff all over this town. Fun!
