steamed pork momo with tomato sauce
    Alison L.

The restaurant is small and intimate with a nice atmosphere. Service was attentive and kind. I got the steamed pork momo with sesame tomato coriander sauce and the steamed pork momo with tomato sauce, as these are their most popular. The food was good but too mild for my liking, as the sauces tasted a bit bland. I suspect that other dishes on their menu may be more flavorful. I overall enjoyed my meal and experience.

It's super fun to come with a group so that you can try a lot of things, but expect a *very* long wait on popular evenings. It's a tiny restaurant with only a handful of tables, but it's worth it. They are welcoming, and very helpful in choosing what to order. We tried one of each type of momo (steamed, pan-fried, chilly)- they are all delicious, highly recommend the pad-fried and chilly. We also tried the Bhatti Pasal Thali, which is so beautifully presented and has a nice variety. I can't wait to come back, I'd love to try the noodle soup.

The place is in a very cozy setting. We opted for the Chicken Jhol Momo and Chilli Vegetarian Momo. The Chicken Jhol Momo was extremely flavorful. The Chilli Momo were a bit too saucy for our liking. Vegetarian fried rice was extremely well prepared with fine chopped veggies and light spicing. Chiya was great and much required for a cold day we visited on. Great attentive service. The lady (assume the owner) went from table to table checking if everything was good. Great gesture.

Very small restaurant tucked in an alley next to a very popular French fry spot. Drinks: Fresh Mint Tea - 6 - Hot water with mint leaves is quite refreshing but very light in flavor. I suggest having this after your meal. Chiya (sweet milk tea) - 7 - a touch sweet bit great spice. Serving size was small! Steamed pork momo in tomato & coriander sauce - Pan fried chicken momo in sesame sauce (jhol achar) - 9 Amazing sauce and tasty dumplings Chicken Sekuwa with furandana and mint & tomato sauce - 6 The sauce was on the bland side (especially pairs with chicken) and we found ourselves using the remaining tomato and coriander sauce. Affordable prices and pretty decent food will bring us back for more...but only with the tomato and coriander sauce!

Trying Nepalese cuisine for the first time, it was spectacular! The dumplings were juicy inside, crispy outside, and in a delicious sauce. It was a fusion of all my favorite flavors and I know I will crave this when I'm back home in the US. The lamb skewers were perfectly seasoned and cooked! Served with crispy rice- which is a bit like puffed up crispies, it actually was sepcya

Please go here! Amazing authentic food with great service. So much flavor, was so pleased with these dishes!

I've had Bhatti Pasal on my to-do list for a bit of time and we finally made it with friends in town. Keep in mind that they don't take reservations so if you don't want to wait a bit, come early. The food is delicious and well worth a wait. The service will be quick and hurried as they've got a limited number of tables.

Imagine our surprise in finding a Nepalese restaurant in the middle of Amsterdam. Its a tiny hole in the wall place and was packed even at 430pm. We had a sudden craving for momos, and went in. Got the chicken momos in jhol achar (sesame seed paste) and it was incredibly good. Would not mind going back to have it again. We weren't very hungry but I'm sad we didn't have time during our trip to go back and try some of the other dishes. Don't miss it if you're in Amsterdam!

Wandering the streets of Amsterdam, and we quickly found a place worth visiting. One of the guys we were traveling with found this place with good reviews. I have never had this type of food before so I was in! We only had to wait a little bit and were able to sit. It is a very small restaurant so good luck if it's busy. We all ordered several dishes to share. The dumplings, the noodles, and some other small dishes with the curry sauce. Everything was amazing. The flavors so intense, so well done. It was awesome. I had absolutely no complaints about the food but we did have a slight issue with the time and ordering otherwise I would happily give them 5 stars! Give them a try!

A delicious find in Amsterdam! We chose this place because it came highly reviewed and it definitely lives up to its rating. It is small so there might be a wait, but we did not have to wait more than a few minutes at 7pm on a Sunday. We ordered the veggie fried rice and the pan fried dumplings in sesame sauce. Both were very unique and flavorful. This is what we came for!!!

The Momo's were my favorite. So delicious. First time trying Nepalese food and was extremely pleased. Highly recommend this cute place for dinner.

I had no idea I needed Nepalese/Tibetan/Indian food in my life. The smell as you walk into the restaurant immediately grabs your attention and lets you know you're in for an experience. Everything on the menu looked delectable and my only regret is that my stomach isn't big enough to have ordered every single thing on the menu. If k ever find myself in Amsterdam again I will undoubtedly be coming back to Sherpa.

Sherpa also has a Tibetan and Nepalese twist, and the menu had so many new-to-me items, including Momos. The restaurant smells amazing when you walk in, so I knew that choosing an entrée would be difficult, especially with so many vegetarian options. I ordered the Tshel momos, which are stuffed with minced vegetables and steamed. They were served with a homemade tomato sauce that, while cold, complimented them perfectly. They were not spicy, which was different for me since I usually go for some form of noodles and love at least medium spice. My husband had the Yeti's Food- Stir fried noodles with boneless chicken and vegetables with Himalayan herbs. He usually goes for curry, so this was a change for him as well. Both of us really enjoyed our meals and are glad we went with something we've never seen in the US before. The service was great, and the servers brought out fresh papadam, raita, and some other condiments to try as soon as we were seated. They also kept our waters and my husband's beer filled and brought us Wilhelmina mints at the end of our meal with the check. Those mints are amazing and so much better than the US post-meal mints, and I had to buy a large package to take home! If you're looking for a culinary adventure in Amsterdam that is NOT Dutch food, check out Sherpa. Bonus points for being an easy walk from the museum district.

Very elegant interior, with tasteful decor, soft ambient music, best for couples, but also able to accommodate larger groups with a reservation. We were seated right away and greeted by our server Sona, very gracious, patient, attentive, and professional. She asked about any allergies and then took our order of chicken tikka saag and chicken tikka masala, both medium spiciness (also asked if we would like Indian medium or European medium--we chose Indian medium). These entrees come with rice, and we also ordered garlic naan. Immediately, they brought chilled bottled water and complimentary thin crispy cracker like bread with red sauce and green sauce (I didn't catch the names). I liked the green sauce better (mint), and my husband liked the red one better (tamarind)--both were lovely. About 20 minutes later, our entrees arrived piping hot, and cooked to perfection! Tender chicken, savory rich flavors in the masala and saag, both the right level of spicy for us! Glad we had enough rice and water! The lamb saag was absolutely delicious and the salad was quite good as well. We weren't huge fans of the mixed tandoori plate, the flavors weren't very developed and it needed more spice, but we were overall satisfied with the service and the dining experience. It appears from the other reviews that the momos are one of the best things to eat here, but I personally couldn't because I am gluten free, so considering how delicious the saag is, I bet dishes other than the tandoori are very delicious as well! Overall I would recommend this place.

The restaurant is small and the tables were a bit too close to each other. It was difficult squeezing in between the tables to sit down. Luckily it wasn't too crowded during my visit. They have an extensive menu of both Indian and Nepalese dishes. I had already browsed the menu online and had a general idea of what I wanted. I started with a mint tea. It was really good and soothing. The server brought out complimentary papadum and it was delicious! I ordered the Bhindi Masala. The server asked what spice level I wanted and I requested mild. In hindsight, I should have said "no spice" or specified a spice level of 1 or maybe even 0 if that was an option lol. Her definition of mild was spice level 2. The dish was so good and so flavorful, but it was way too spicy for me. I was struggling with it and the server could tell. She insisted on bringing out another Bhindi Masala without any spice which I greatly appreciated. Since I had mint tea, it worsened the burning sensation. She suggested I try the Raita (yogurt mixed with cucumbers and tomatoes). It was really good and definitely helped to calm the spiciness. The portions are huge and I had so much Bhindi Masala left when I was done eating. I wasn't going to take the leftovers with me because I didn't have a way to reheat them, but the server insisted that I take it, so she packed it up for me. I tried a little bit the next day and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted cold. The flavors marinated the okra overnight so the flavor packed a punch. It's unfortunate that European hotel rooms don't have microwaves because it would have been phenomenal the next day if I could have reheated it.

Super lekker!…read more Recommended to me by a neighbor who raved about this place. I have to admit that I don't really know what authentic "Indian and Nepalese" food is. Of course I have had some delicious "Indian" food over the years. But either way, Ashoka is very nice! I've lived about a block away for over a year and it's my first time there, (of course half of that time it was not available due to the government pandemic restrictions). I ordered takeaway here late on a Sunday. but there were people inside, dining, having a great time. The staff was super-friendly and pleasant and even laughed at my stupid jokes. The food was amazing. HUGE portions. The naan is perfect (I bought two orders which is more than enough for two / three people)...rice is nice and light. The egg fried rice was super lekker too! Plenty of chicken in the curry meal. Something else I noted was the super-thick aluminum foil they used for their takeaway packaging. That's a sign (to me) they invest in quality. I ate too much because it was so delicious, so I worried I may have trouble sleeping with heartburn or worse, but I felt great. I think that's another sign of quality. I can't wait to dine inside. It is a very nice interior. Not a dive or unclean. I will take friends and family here whenever it's safe for them to visit. It may not appear to be the cheapest place, but don't let that distract you. It is near the center of Amsterdam in a very nice area, such high quality, clean with lots of space, it's worth it. (By the way, the Kinkerstraat part of the name is the location, since there is another location in nearby Spuistraat).
