As soon as you walk through the front door there doesn't seem to be much privacy for the patients. The exercise equipment and workout tables are front facing with no courtesy wall. One exception are the available curtains that can be drawn around therapists work tables, so that's a plus. I also noticed the environment appears a bit loud with a lot of chatter. Despite what I observed, the space looks clean and the front desk staff have been very friendly. Most importantly my neighbor likes her Physical Therapist and that's all that matters.

My mother-in-law was admitted to Kings Harbor Multicare Center three separate times over the course…read moreof nearly 10 years because of complications from congestive heart failure. While her first two stays had their challenges, nothing could have prepared our family for what happened during her final admission. The quality of care appears to deteriorate the higher up in the building patients were placed.There were many days when patients sat lined up in wheelchairs along the hallway for hours with little interaction, stimulation, or engagement. My mother-in-law was still mentally aware enough to express how much she hated sitting there, staring at a wall, waiting for someone to acknowledge her. One of my greatest concerns was the lack of basic nursing care. We were told she needed to be repositioned every four hours to prevent pressure ulcers. Despite those instructions, she developed severe bedsores that became so painful she cried every time staff cleaned them. Family members visited every single day for at least four hours and never once witnessed anyone repositioning her. More often than not, my daughter repositioned her, herself because she couldn't bear to see how uncomfortable she was. Her water pitcher was often filled only once each day, leaving her with warm water for hours. There were multiple occasions when she called us on her cell phone from her room because no one would answer her call light. We then had to call the front desk to get someone to check on her. Our family handled all of her laundry ourselves. Every week we brought her clothes home, washed them, and returned them. Yet one week we arrived to discover every piece of her clothing had disappeared. Nearly eight months after her passing, no one has ever explained what happened to her belongings. Perhaps the most upsetting experience involved the financial department. When her insurance benefits were exhausted, we fully understood there would be financial responsibility for her continued stay. What we did not expect was for staff to approach my mother-in-law directly and have her sign paperwork involving her pension and Social Security benefits instead of discussing those matters with our family. By that point in her illness, her cognitive status fluctuated because her failing heart was no longer providing adequate oxygenated blood to her brain. The facility documented those cognitive changes in her medical record. Despite this, financial documents were presented directly to her while we, the family members who visited every single day, were never contacted beforehand. When we confronted the finance office, hoping for an explanation, the interaction only made matters worse. Mike spoke to me with a tone and level of disrespect that left me in tears. He insisted my mother-in-law was mentally competent to handle her own affairs, repeatedly stating that because I did not have power of attorney, I had no right to question what had occurred. We were never provided copies of the documents she signed, nor were we even allowed to review them. As a result, the facility gained access to her income while she still owned a home and had financial obligations outside of the nursing facility. My mother-in-law entered Kings Harbor for one reason, to rebuild her strength through physical therapy so she could hopefully undergo heart surgery and return home. Instead, we watched a vibrant, intelligent, independent woman steadily decline while under their care. At 80 years old, she was anything but a typical nursing home resident. She loved following current events, discussing politics, listening to music, watching sports, and engaging in meaningful conversations. She still had a passion for life. Rather than helping her maintain the independence she still possessed, it seemed that the focus became managing her decline instead of maximizing her quality of life. Not every employee lacked compassion. The Physical Therapy department, especially Yelly, genuinely seemed invested in helping my mother-in-law regain strength. There was also an aide named Terrie whose kindness and compassion stood out during an incredibly difficult time. Their humanity is something I will always remember and appreciate. After she passed away in January 2026 while still a resident of Kings Harbor, I began receiving bills at our home demanding payment of her outstanding balance. Receiving collection notices while grieving her loss felt insensitive, inappropriate. Based on everything my family witnessed and experienced, I cannot recommend Kings Harbor Multicare Center.

I have never looked forward to physical therapy before, but this place is a delightful change…read more Everyone on the staff, from the front desk to the owner-manager Alex, is sincerely friendly and completely engaged. Other PT places I've succumbed to have been marked by tension in the air because the friendliness is superficial, the smiles glued on. Or the young PT staff gave me an exercise with a number of repetitions and then huddled in the corner to talk sports and their recent weekend frolics. Not so here: I feel an improvement and where I used to go home feeling depleted and pessimistic, I walk out of RSPT feeling stronger and hopeful. And aside from the congenial atmosphere, the exercises I've been asked (very sweetly) to do make sense. I don't see other patients given identical routines: the place is more like a cheerful gathering of neighbors (for a common purpose) than a factory. I can't recommend them highly enough! ==================================================== An update. Tomorrow is my last visit of 2025, because Medicare will only cover 28 visits in a twelve-month period. My enthusiasm for this practice and the people in it has only increased. The atmosphere is friendly without artifice, not the professional friendliness of people who would really rather you go away so they can continue chatting about last night's sports event. You might not notice it if you knew me six months ago, but I feel stronger and more mobile. This is not, I assure you, because I religiously do the exercises at home. (Long pause here.) But it is because the people I work with, especially Francy, Melissa, now and again Alex, Hannah, and Annabelle, have understood what exercises might help me and have guided me through them. The pleasantness begins at the front desk: Arlinda, Madeline, Michael -- all genuinely solicitous and humane. I think they understand that people come to PT with a certain amount of pain, impairment, and the accompanying embarrassment. Because of the gentle-spirited, light-hearted owner, Alex Sherman, the feeling of uncritical welcoming acceptance is felt all through the practice. I am sad to leave -- it feels like the last day of summer camp -- but I hope to be back in 2026.

The staff is friendly, welcoming, and treats both patients and their families with kindness and respect. One thing that has stood out is the food--it is fresh, tasty, and well prepared, which is so important during recovery. Families also have access to a microwave and vending machines, which is a thoughtful convenience during visits. The Director of Nursing has been attentive and responsive, and outside medical appointments are scheduled appropriately with follow-up care coordinated. The facility itself is modern, clean, and well maintained, with housekeeping staff consistently keeping the environment spotless. Patients have access to their own television with a Fire Stick, which helps make their stay more comfortable. I also appreciate the therapy department's open-door policy, which allows families to feel more involved in the rehabilitation process. My only suggestions for improvement would be to provide more regular updates on patients' progress so families can better understand how rehabilitation is going. In addition, the West Wing seems to be short-staffed on weekends, which can affect the overall experience. Overall, I would recommend this facility. The caring staff, clean environment, quality food, and strong therapy services have made a positive difference in my husband's recovery.

My mother was an inpatient at this skilled nursing home for almost a year and a half following…read morespinal surgery. About a year later, in June 2025, she also underwent knee surgery, which added to the challenges of her recovery. When she first arrived, she was unable to walk at all. Through consistent care and the dedication of the nursing and physical therapy staff, my mother made remarkable progress. She is now able to stand, pivot, and take a few assisted steps--something we were not sure would be possible at one point. I would like to especially thank Migdalia, Irene, Corine, Nurse Carlos, Nurse Jackie, and physical therapist Lornie. Their professionalism, patience, and genuine compassion played a major role in my mother's recovery, and they always treated her with dignity and encouragement. While there were some challenges along the way, as one might expect in a long-term care setting, the overall quality of care was top-notch. I would highly recommend this skilled nursing home to anyone in need of rehabilitation or extended nursing care. -- Gilda
