Manolis was the guide on my most recent trips to the Greek Island and he made the trip so special in so many ways--from great recommendations any time we had free time, to going out of the way to arrange for a coffee pickup or a reservation at a greek napkin dancing spot we saw one night out, to just being able to chat about anything with anyone and fostering a great group dynamic. The trip itinerary was amazing, a lot of sun, sea and delicious food balanced by experiencing fun nightlife--it was a much needed nervous system reset and a dreamy escape from everyday life. Ridiculously overpriced for what you get! From what we've learned while on this trip, we could…read morehave spent less than half making the same arrangements for ourselves. We feel like complete chumps for contracting with this company. The quality of the hotels, category of rooms, guides, and itinerary would also have been so much better had we done the planning and organizing ourselves. Travcoa keeps the independent journey itinerary details a mystery and totally vague before you depart (we now believe this is because if one knew how lacking the daily itineraries were, one would never pay their extremely high prices). While currently traveling, we have not received a precise itinerary for the entire 11 day journey, but only receive a one or two sentence itinerary 24-48 hours faxed to us by the local operator before each city, revealing only the pick up time which has been 10 AM! It's much too hot in Italy in August to start touring at 10 AM. A "full day guided tour with driver and guide" we have learned is just 6 hours long. Every second day is "at our leisure", with no guidance or recomendations for what to do, and since you don't know what the guide will be showing you the following day, you are likely to see the same things twice. Drivers for transfers spoke no English and drove straight between cities, missing the enjoyment of sights along the way. Guides provided no more insight or creativity in touring us in the cities than could be arranged through a hotel concierge or via Internet planning with a local driver guide company. Do not use Travcoa if you'd like to ensure you will have a room in the category of your choosing with a pleasant view at truly 5 star hotels. Nor should you use them if you are counting on great itinerary planning, and would like a schedule in advance so that you can plan for time for shopping and restaurant lunch/dinner reservations.. We are very disappointed with this independent tour, and wish we could start from scratch making the arrangements ourselves and either keeping half the money we've shelled out, in our wallet, or upgrading everything, with the money we've wasted, for a truly luxury and well planned/executed vacation. More than anything, we are so disappointed to have had our precious time wasted, and not truly well spent.
