Valeski's Bi-Lo is a prize and a growing rarity: a family-owned and -operated grocery store that puts service first and foremost. They're not all that big, and not at all fancy compared to their giant competitors, but they have what you need when you need it, and you won't be waiting in line for 38 minutes. Unlike those monoliths, Valeski's doesn't skimp on staff. The last time I shopped at Martin's I ended up bagging half of my groceries myself, since there were six open registers and only 3 baggers--this after standing in line for over 20 minutes. There are always enough cashiers, and--how awesome is this?--they still have designated baggers who will load up your cart while the cashier is ringing you up. Heck, they'll offer to take your groceries out to your car for you. I've made it a habit to do all my errand-type shopping at Valeski's Bi-Lo, because businesses like this need to be supported. Of course, it doesn't hurt that they have a great deli counter and the best baked good in town, either. What they lack in exotic merchandise they more than make up for with speed, service, and accessibility. See you there. read more

The purpose of this review is to help out other college students and or others who might not be from the area. Like Pittsburgh, I've found Indiana to be a place where in order to get the best prices on food and consumables, one needs to go to multiple stores. I need to save money, so while one could buy everything at one place, it would cost more to do that. Bi Lo has great meat specials, and this is a reason to go there. I was able to get pork, chicken, and ground beef at exceptional prices, and the quality is good. They had a great deal on hot dogs, though I didn't buy any. Their 'pick 5' deals are really good. Other items at this store seemed more expensive than elsewhere, but hey, I'll be back every time I want to buy meat. read more

I would give this place a zero star review if I could. I live very close by and so I walk here often for a few things in between big shopping trips at Martins. This place is horribly over-priced and they run some "specials" which are rarely anything note able and bring the price of something down to what you'd regularly find it for at Martins or Giant Eagle. The owner Tom is very friendly, but the manager Ken is a complete ass. He constantly gives me dirty looks. Once while I was attempting to check out with a few items using my debit card, the incompetent cashier couldn't figure out how to tell the computer I was paying with a card opposed to cash and he ran over and accused me of trying to steal! He kept saying "I don't know what you're trying to do here but you're not gonna get away with stealing this stuff" like HELLO BUDDY I was trying to PAY. He's rude, short-tempered, and clearly has an issue with his job or just plain hates the customers. Oh, and there's a gigantic HOLE in the ceiling right above the meat section that drips moldy, brown, smelly water. They had a tarp over it catching the water for about a week but ended up just letting it all hang out. It still hasn't been been fixed for about 3 months now. read more
