I had the pleasure of stumbling into Biddy Murphy on a weekend getaway. My boyfriend and I were greeted by Ward, the gracious and knowledgable proprietor of this shop. This being my first ring, I wasn't sure about the fit, though Ward advised that a ring should "pop" over my knuckle to ensure a true fit, but I insisted on a ring that fit loosely and comfortably. After much ado, trying on different sizes (and arguing over who would pay) I left the shop with a beautiful Claddagh ring. Though within the hour, I realized that Ward had been right, the ring was in fact, too big. I called him, explained that I'd make a mistake on insisting on the bigger ring and he insisted my boyfriend and I come back to get a ring that fit. After sheepishly apologizing while trying on a smaller size, he said with a smile "If this is the worst thing to happen to me, today will be a great day!" Ward's geniality and concern of my comfort with my precious ring will ensure that I always make a trip to Biddy Murphy any time that I'm in South Haven and I encourage all visitors to stop in. My husband and I and my then 2yr old son came to South Haven 3 years ago for my cousin's wedding. (a long way from Texas!) I'm a lover of all things Celtic and we happen upon Biddy Murphy's purely by accident (or fate?) when driving through town. I fell in love with this place as soon as we stepped in! We were greeted warmly, the shop was orderly and clean and there was so much to look at. After spending about 35 minutes browsing (with my son ducking behind some Irish flags in which I have a photo of him peeking out) I finally had to tear myself away. My husband bought me a beautiful marcasite triscele (which I haven't taken off since) and we were on our way. My necklace continually reminds me of Biddy Murphy's and South Haven and I hope to visit again one day! read more
