So, kinda confusing...but Barefoot Bay (aka. Big Al's Barefoot Bay) and now Castaway's Bar & Grill is out on Lake Bob Sandlin. Wife and I stopped in (as we have never been here before and they had Line Dance lessons from 6-9. Service was good and a great view of the lake. Food was bar food and good for around here. Line dancing was a bit of a let down as they didn't have a great sound system. But, lots of people showed up and made it fun. All in all, the restaurant is young and they are experiencing some growing pains. Broken tea maker and got a an appetizer wrong...but they made it right. Had pepperoni pizza and Philly Cheesesteak...but forgot to take pictures. We will come again and grow with them! read more

FLACCID AL'S BAREFOOT BAY JUST THE DETAILS -Our lawnmower stored at Barefoot bay was taken and used by the new marina owners. They claim that our contact and payment info was never transferred from the old owners and it was abandoned property to seize because of that. -Trying to get things sorted out we had unpleasant interactions and intimidation tactics used against us and potentially witnessed some child labor violations. -Payed them the past due balance. The returned mower had approximately $500 worth of vandalism damage done to it. They eventually paid for the repair which seems to be an admittance of guilt. They have not admitted or apologized for any of the damages or unethical use. THE FULL EXPERIENCE Upon returning spring of this year (2025) we were met with all new signage and a fresh wood facade inside and out. New cameras everywhere, an updated bar and dance hall. It was impressive at first glance. Sadly the facelift that had been preformed was nothing better than lipstick on a pig. Under the shimmering red gloss this place is still just swine wallowing in its own filth. On our first visit this year to pick up our mower, a drowsy looking man that appeared to have gum disease approached us. He told us he was wondering who the trailer belonged to. We explained that we were the owners of the equipment. He stated that our automatic payment we had previously set up would need to be updated. When we returned 3 weeks later we found an empty trailer, our mower was missing. Someone had to cut our lock and cable off. We went inside and asked for a manger only to be greeted by a child behind the counter. I asked for a manger and she went to go find them. A middle aged man with a large cold sore approach me and asked what I needed. I was sharply dismissed and directed to a lady in a side office. She started filling out a theft report when a young lady with an upper lip piercing came in and asked what happened. She asked if it was a red mower and then said she would be right back. While I waited for her to return the little girl behind the counter was processing transactions at the register unsupervised. Selling snack, drinks, and even cigarettes at one point. When the woman with the lip piercing returned the girl asked her if it was legal for her to sell cigarettes. She was told no, but not to worry about it. I was eventually handed their land line phone and talked with their new property manager Jessica. While on the phone the cold sore man returned and demanded I take that call elsewhere. He insisted that was a business line and I needed to take the elsewhere. After I told him I was on the business line with the business (the property manager) he stood there staring at me and eventually walked off. A week later when we picked up the lawn mower it was back on the trailer. That's where their fulfillment ended. The control handles were bent so badly the enamel paint was chipped off and the lawnmower was not controllable. The key cylinder had been destroyed, the throttle control was bent, one of the transmission releases was bent, and a chunk of the handle foam was torn off. They vandalized the lawnmower extensively before returning it. Eventually the property manager reimbursed us for the vandalism caused on her team's watch. That seems to be the only ethical part of this entire exchange. What seems to be the most concerning for the future of the marina is the complete lack of ethics within the staff, and potential of willingly violating child labor laws, a minor working the register alone selling age restricted items. The behavior by the cold sore man, a supposed manager trying to pressure and intimidate us, damaging property that they were paid to store and keep secure. "Big Al's" has fallen flat. This place needs to seriously consider replacing the local management. From what I have seen and personally experienced recently at Barefoot bay, it is my opinion that people lacking so much integrity and intelligence operating a business are untrainable and just need to be replaced. read more

Not what I would call a RESORT we stayed one night, we were parked next door to the park maintenance man. His dog barked and barked and barked until midnight at which point I guess he brought him in. Our site, mind you next to the maintenance man, had overgrown grass in the fire ring, and trash in the fire ring, the charcoal BBQ grill had two of those small empty propane bottles in it. And this was next to the maintenance man site! It is a rather large rv park and apparently no one EVER polices the park for trash, as there was trash, water bottles, fast food cups etc etc litter all over Wife did mention to the manager about the employee's barking dog , he just brushed it off saying the guy was a good ole boy and no one mentioned it before. (That is not an excuse) The park is inhabited by a lot of long term tenants, and of course they are not the best maintained!!! The help on check in was lacking. We had to call to get internet code, she says good luck using it because it doesn't work well We had to go back to the office to get the bathroom code. Not a good experience read more

We stayed her for a little staycation this year. Recommend the campgrounds. We rented a pontoon for a day and for $400 we assumed we would be getting a clean and cared for boat. The boat was pretty gross. We made due and just avoided those areas. We had initially wanted to pull a tube, woman told us it would pull it. Sure it will buttttt the boat only had a 90horse motor. the tube they rented us for $35 was torn and zipper broken. There was NO way I was putting out kids on that. I love coming to Bob Sandlin to fish. The bass fishing can be really good, plenty of areas to fish in this lake. We launch from Barefoot Bay as it is the closest location for us on the lake. This marina was bought out a couple of years ago and they have made a lot of improvements. Live band on the weekends, volley ball with the sand box, BBQ areas with covered Picnic tables next to the launch area. They also serve food ( not the greatest but burgers are good. Only down side I do not like is the cashier is cooking your food as she works the register. To me it does not seem very sanitary doing both. They have a mini mart that sells a lot of snacks, beer, wine and even live bait. They also sell cabins which we have used before. You can rent space for your RVs. Down side, if your solely there for fishing then come early limited boat space for parking. That is the biggest draw back. Only can hold about 5-6 trailers if the other guest parking their cars there. read more

We booked a few nights at this resort having high hopes. Caught wind about it being great to kayak at because of a quiet cove. It for sure is a quiet cove and we loved getting on the water. Had a great view of the lake from our site. However, that was all I feel this place had to offer. I expected way more for the amount a night you pay. Sites are supposed to be gravel however most need more gravel so you aren't walking through mud whenever it rains. Not to mention you are right on top of your neighbors. I didn't measure but where we were I'd say there was about 6 feet between sites. Sewer hookups were toward the back of most the sites and you need a longer hose to reach them. Wish we would of known that before arriving. Once we were setup we caught a wondering smell of sewage. After looking at the very close site next to us, the cap was missing from their sewer drain. I called the office to inform them but they did nothing. I would of thought they'd at least put a new cap on it. I borrowed one from an empty site no one was by to block the uncapped sewer drain because I could stomach the smell. Our site's grill had at least 20 cigarette buds inside it. I let the office staff know because I didn't want to get blamed and loose my $100 deposit. I figured they would send someone out to clean it up but again no one came. Sorry but it's not my job to pay money for a site and clean someone else's crap. During our stay the WiFi worked during the morning of only one day. Again I mentioned it to someone working in the office that they may have to reboot the router but nothing happened. With this place on the lake I was looking forward to getting work done from my site using the supplied WiFi. Bummed when I had to go to the office/restaurant to work. On our last night we had someone stay in the site next to us. Quiet hours are supposed to be at 10. It's a group of friends having a good time chatting loudly and drinking way past the posted quiet hours. People drinking and talking doesn't bother me much as long as the respect the neighbors by keeping their noise level down. I would of called the office but they likely wouldn't do a damn thing about it. If you don't mind the problems that occurred to us book away. For me and my family we will take our $47 a night and stay at places that take better care of the costumers and park. read more

My fiance and I rented one of their cabins this past weekend and just wow! The cabin was super clean and cozy and they had absolutely everything we needed. The bed was super comfortable and the staff made sure we were taken care of. read more

I have been a guest of a cabin now for 3 months. I have a child that is in online school and was promised that there was suitable access to internet before moving here. There is no access to internet in my cabin. Have been given nothing but excuses from management regarding the issue. The managers son gives nothing but lip service and does nothing to support the issue. The site discloses how great it is, but the services provided are either not available or broken down. While this is a great location, I completely do not recommend a stay here as management of the park is irresponsible and does not care about its guests!!!!!! read more

This is a really wonderful RV camp site! We are not only on the water, we have our own patio, grill and fire pit. The site provides a laundry facility/ " Library ", very clean bathrooms with showers, hot tub, and boat launch if you need it. There's a general store, a bar, restaurant and small souvenir shop too! The gas station provides any kind of gas you need but it's about .30 higher then gas in town ( only 5 miles away). There's a Super Walmart within 7 miles if u get low on supplies too! read more

A wonderful and peaceful place to relax. They have movie night On Tuesdays they have a pool tournament on Thursdays and karaoke on Fridays.

Some good, some bad but definitely room for improvement. Cabins and RV park 4-stars: Regarding camp sites, they are great. If you are lucky enough to get one on the water, it's the best. Has stand up charcoal grill and fire ring. Roads are well maintained. Appears many permanent renters. Can't speak to bath house facilities or laundry - didn't use them. As to the cabins, nothing fancy (but these are lake cabins not 5-star condominiums). Clean. Bug-free. Very minimally furnished with bare bones linens, towels, cookware, and dinnerware. Decent beds, full flow shower with plenty of hot water (only toiletry was a bar of soap), flat screen TV with cable. If you plan on cooking bring everything you need. Didn't even see salt and pepper or dish washing liquid. Marina & boat slips: 3-stars: Good selection of drinks in the store including beer and wine and mixers. Some food provisions but nothing extensive. Disappointed to not have at least coffee and some sort of breakfast offering for early morning fishermen. Some baits and basic boat maintenance supplies. Good no alcohol gas (very expensive but great for the boat) on the water with easy access. Boat launch is well constructed and laid out but kids are allowed to swim right beside the boat launch - an accident waiting to happen. Minimal parking in the launch lot (about 10 to 12 rigs max) with overflow parking about 1 block away. Several boat slips for rent at $15 per night. Well lighted and located right at Marina. Secured by a locking gate with a lock that is really hard to operate. Thought one lady was going to throw it in the lake. Generally speaking, the customer service at the Marina is seriously lacking. Samantha needs to find a job where they want to pay her not to work. She shuffles boxes of candy around and makes a half-hearted effort at restocking drinks while the line builds up at the one-man register where they are trying to do it all: rent out cabins and RV spots, get bait, sell supplies, take food orders, cook food, answer the phone, rent boat slips, take launch fees, etc. Restaurant and bar: 1-star: The venue itself has so much potential. All in rustic deck-style décor, there is an indoor dining area looking out onto the lake, an enclosed bar/bandstand area with seating, a deck area with a hot tub, and a sand volleyball pit. But it is so poorly utilized that all this is wasted. From what I saw, if you want food or drink, you have to get it at the Marina desk. No table service. You order your food at the desk from a very limited "convenience store" food menu like frozen pizzas and fried stuff. Then, you have to time it to come back and get your food. Kids are lounging in the hot tub unsupervised. Karaoke on Friday night had some surprisingly good talent. Saturday night really cranked up after dark. Again, so much wasted potential. Would love to see the owner get someone in here that knows how to manage the Marina and restaurant not just keep it open! Take your queue from Lago del Pino in Tyler to see what can be done with a lakeside venue. Look at Stanley's barbecue in Tyler to know how to set up a hipster, divey environment. Put in a real kitchen. Serve real food. Breakfast, "grill" style items and sub sandwiches at lunch, and real food in the evenings (gourmet burgers, steak, catfish, high-end salads, fried shrimp, even barbecue would be a huge, HUGE step up). read more

We got list and good a back road so we were running late after 8pm. We called and talked with Joshua and he said he would stay after to check us in. He was super nice. They all are so nice here. Regardless we never made it do to having a fender bender with the 5th wheel and we had to stay in a hotel. They even returned our money's from our reservation. Thank you. Me and my family had planned to come here for Memorial day weekend, we booked a cabin with 2 bedrooms, kitchen and living room to accommodate all of us and were super excited to be able to get together. I personally drove from Austin, my sister and her husband flew from North Carolina....upon arrival we were told we would no longer be getting the cabin we had reserved since February but a 1 bedroom portable building that was still being leveled when we arrived...when we said we would have 6 people in our party and needed a 2 bedroom to fit all of us they said they left an air-mattress in there to make up for the lack of a 2nd bedroom. When we asked if we would be getting money back to make up for the difference for a 2 bedroom cabin with a nice deck in the back, kitchen table and living room we were expecting to get for the 1 bedroom portable building that was dirty and had no chairs or kitchen table, they said take it or leave it and no discount would be given. Unfortunately we didn't have any other options as it was Memorial day weekend and everything was booked...and since we had all came from so far way, we decided to make the best of it. We did call the owner to ask if this is how they ran their business and they basically came up with excuses as to why we weren't staying in the cabin we had reserved and they offered 80 bucks off our bill to "make it right". It clearly didn't make it right. Now I'll review the "bunk house" but like I said, it was still being leveled when we got there soo...it clearly was not guest ready. It had not been cleaned, when we got the keys the floors were very dirty, my feet were black just after walking around for 2 mins. There was a futon and one chair to sit in. No table or or chairs to sit around and eat. The air-mattress they left was also dirty and gross. The kitchen oven didn't work and the sink would let out a sewage smell since the septic tank was overflowing right outside. The outside was also not finished, big surprise. There was a huge gap between the ground and the portable building. Was not kid friendly obviously as a curious kid wanted to checkout under the building. There was no nice deck in the back like the cabin we had originally reserved had, no, just a rickety stair case that led down to a huge ledge you had to step over making it hard to get down to the boat. So to sum it up, I would not recommend this place nor will my family be back. Talking with other people who had stayed there previously, they said they did the same thing to them, and on the same weekend we were there, 2 other groups had the same thing happen to them. This place obviously values their long term renters over than their short term renters so when you book a camp site that you thoughtfully picked out, don't be surprised when they bump you for a long term renter and you get stuck with the site that no one wanted, and no they wont tell you about it until you get there. I recommend that the owners of this place change their business practices to honor the reservations that customers book or be more transparent when a reservation is changed and give the customer the chance to make alternative plans. read more

This rv park isn't accurately depicted on its website or other advertisements. The park is full of "full timers" who have built porches and even have freezers sitting outside their campers. The "bar and grill" is closed down and no longer exist (yet website hasn't been updated). The boat launch doesn't have a decent place to tie your boat off or dock. The "beach" is a giant sand box. The swimming area is all of a few feet long and not designated. The grounds were not maintained. I can believe at one time this was probably a very nice place but age and neglect has not been good to this property. read more

We ordered some burgers and she sighed and said I'll go turn on the grill. Trust me. Don't order food here. The burger was sub McDonald's and the fries tasted like fish. Yuck! read more

We rented a cabin for two nights over Memorial Day weekend. We paid $99/night + tax for one double bed and a roll away cot. The room was spacious, but not kept up. Furniture was run down; tv volume did not work; the towel bar fell off the wall; towels were well worn, frayed, and mismatched. I think they may be towels other guests have left behind. We did not use any of the plastic wear or dishes available for use in the cupboard. I pulled out one Christmas mug from the cupboard and it had not been washed out. Floors were dirty and window sills were filled with dead bugs. We did not get any housekeeping. I would not recommend staying here due to the price. read more
