I spoke with the owner and they've been here forever; a true institution for the small town comic geeks. The shop is kind of small and set way back in the shopping center, you actually kind of have to look pretty hard for it. The space is small so it's a little cozy but everything is well organized and cleanly lit. The owners were some of the friendliest people I've ever met; they gave my friend a couple of issues after speaking with her a bit about her tastes in comics. Honestly two of the nicest comic shop owners I've ever met. Their selection is a little limited by their space but they will happily do special orders and do folders for customers. I wouldn't expect to find a complete selection of, say, Jodorowsky here, but they've got 95% of what most people are looking for and can order the rest. Clean shop, friendly people, you can't ask for much more.

Receptionist that answered phone would take my name and number and said someone will call back. No one ever did despite 10+ calls. Finally canceled item two weeks ago and they haven't refunded me. I much prefer local bookstores, but I needed some literary gifts in a hurry, so I popped in here…read moreone night. Now don't get me wrong. I am all about a bookstore, any bookstore. Major ones are nice because they usually have lots of nice gifts, mugs and bookmarks. But I am also a fan of local bookstores with focus on local authors and dedicated shop keepers. I also love all the Little Free Libraries that are popping up in neighborhoods everywhere. JUST GIVE ME ALL THE BOOKS OKAY!? But I digress. This Barnes & Noble is really nice and large and there are inviting cozy chairs scattered throughout just beckoning you to sit and read a chapter or two. There's a little cafe here that serves coffee and tea and some sandwiches. I saw a book club meeting here and I thought what a great idea that was. I picked up some gifts for my fellow bibliophile friend and of course got myself a few things too. What?! It was for research. Yeah, research. :)

I visit this bookstore to see what is being offered in the literary world. Also they have a FULL…read moresection of magazines for every interest. There is a music department with CDs and now Vinyl is back. There is a Starbucks attached also. I love Books A Million !!! Everyone knows they have books…read morebecause they are a bookstore but for those that have never been they have so much more. They also have movie DVD's even old ones and what they don't carry in the store they most likely can order it for you. When I was a little girl I saw a Don Knotts movie called The Incredible Mr. limpet. I wanted to share that movie with my grandkids and sure enough they ordered it for me, WoW! They also have music, cards, gifts, magazines and more than I can remember to mention here. My daughter bought a Sushi making kit here that came with everything to make sushi including the recipe book but of course no food was included. The children's section is incredible. They also have a place inside to eat just in case you want a snack or a coffee. Some of my favorite cookbooks and other books have came from Books A Million. They have or can get anything you want to read, watch or listen to.

I really appreciate our few remaining physical bookstores. One can browse topics, to discover new…read moreauthors or new interests. You can actually examine the various books on a specific topic to see which one is best for you. And with the Joe Muggs in the store, one can have a beverage and a snack while taking a break from shopping. Another excellent aspect of a brick-and-mortar bookstore is the helpful staff. Need to find a specific book? They can help! Looking for a gift, they can suggest things. They can even order things for you that might not be in stock. A modern bookstore has much more than books, periodicals, and media. They have lots of gifts, games, and other collectibles. Books A Million also has a lot of discounted and bargain books to browse. Another area that they have well covered is kids! There are a lot of books, toys, and gifts for the little ones in your life. Lafayette, you are lucky to still have a Books A Million to enjoy. In Baton Rouge, we recently lost our last one, so now the Capitol City has only one major book store. Having options is nice, so support your local booksellers whenever you can.
