I'd heard about Carlisle's iconic Hotchee New Year celebration for years, but somehow never made it…read morea priority--until 2025. When I realized the event ran from 6-9pm on New Year's Eve, giving me a chance to celebrate early and still get home safely to ring in the actual new year later, I was 100% in. Add in the fact that I absolutely love Hotchee Dogs, and this was a no-brainer. Hosted by LOVE Carlisle and held inside and outside the Carlisle Theatre on West High Street, the event was buzzing from the moment I arrived. I found free parking nearby and headed toward the festivities. PRO TIP: Check the Post Office parking lot on Louther Street. I've always managed to find a spot there for Carlisle community events--even if it takes a few loops. The entire area was alive with bundled-up folks eating, drinking, and enjoying the night. The Carlisle Theatre was open and warm, with the concession stand and bar operating and live music from The Cagan Goldstein Band filling the space. There was plenty of seating to take a break from the cold, and watching the hot dog eating contest inside was a fun (and entertainingly chaotic) way to spend some time warming up. Just inside the theater entrance, volunteers were handing out free New Year's party favors and selling exclusive Hotchee Dog merch to support future events. I couldn't resist and happily spent $10 on a Hotchee Dog ornament for my Christmas tree. What can I say--I love chili dogs. Outside, DJ Rob kept the energy high while counting down to the iconic Hotchee Dog Drop, scheduled for 9pm. Shortly before the drop, a tent was set up in the middle of the street and 500 free Hotchee Dogs, courtesy of The Hamilton Restaurant, were handed out. You better believe I was standing in line, eagerly waiting my turn. When I reached the front and they still had Hotchee Dogs left, I was thrilled! That moment turned into one of those unexpected core memories--standing in the middle of West High Street, foil-wrapped Hotchee Dog in hand, dancing to the DJ's music under the winter night sky. Pure joy. Pure deliciousness. An absolutely perfect way to ring in the new year a little early. LOVE Carlisle truly knows how to create meaningful, fun, community-centered events, and living close enough to take part has been such a gift. Hotchee New Year is officially on my annual must-do list--and I can't wait to be back next year!
