I knew once I talked with them on the phone that they would be great to get the party going which is exactly what I wanted and what I received. Dan did a great job. He was all set up with music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. There were specific songs I wanted and did not want played, and he followed that even though I know one of my guests tried to request a song on the no-play list. There was a questionnaire that I was supposed to fill out and even though I didn't fill out half of it because I didn't know or didn't really care about certain things, I'm glad they asked all of those questions because I didn't think about the songs that would make my coworkers dance or the song that my parents danced to at their wedding that some people might overlook and really want played due to the sentimental value. He didn't come up to us very often except a to make sure he pronounced all of my wedding party's names and the right first dance song. The only thing he goofed on which is why I'm giving this a 4 star rating was because I asked for a particular song to be played for our ceremony exit (through email not questionnaire) and instead some other song was played that I had never heard of. Don told us he wasn't available for that day and he would send somebody else that had a lot of experience as well, his name was Mike I think...and we were okey about it. We never met with the other dj as we did everything with Don. The day of the wedding was a little disappointing for me and my husband with the dj, we requested on the questionnary a few songs that were special for us and never happened also when I met Don I warned him that half bridal party had Hispanic names and I know it can get tricky if you don't speak Spanish, but Don was super aware and he told me he knew how to pronounce them so I didn't worry...but the day of the wedding all the names were just Pronunounced awfully wrong even the bride name was pronounced just wrong wrong wrong! Now I have a video of the wedding reception were you clearly you can see the dj just landed in the wedding and didn't even see the questionnary before it, otherwise would take the time to call us to take a note how to pronounce everybody's name if you don't know how to pronounce them... The music was okey,it wasn't bad but I was expecting a little more, we didn't complain at the time as we were trying just to ignore the bad and enjoy our special day. What is done is done but my recommendation would be for Don to follow closer the other djs that work with him to make sure they give a quality service, I am sure Don is a great dj and he really care about giving a good service as he was great working with is before the wedding day.

A big bonus was his emceeing skills: he is smooth and funny, and put everyone at ease. He knows how to read a crowd and get everyone dancing and having a good time! David has a broad range of skills: I remember him as a premier club D.J. back when I lived for going out to dance. He proved equally adept in a private setting. He is also a talented musician and vocalist in his own right (I caught his jazz act and I think he was channelling the brat pack: suave, charming and mellifluous). We gave him a few playlists to share our overall vibe, and he went above and beyond--asking for a detailed breakdown of the energy we wanted at each moment and location throughout our multi-event celebration. Whether it was the ceremony, the rooftop cocktail hour at our pre-wedding sangeet, the themed speakeasy cocktail hour, or the full-on sangeet dance party, he curated each set with intention and total mastery. His mixes were unlike anything we've ever heard. He seamlessly blended Indian, Western, reggaeton, Afrobeats, Bollywood, and more, creating unique mashups that fit the mood and the venue perfectly. The sangeet reception mashup he crafted was out of this world. I had at least ten guests come up to me asking if he would make a mix just so they could relive the night and use it for their own weddings. I saw Stax O Wax at a friend's wedding in the Chicago 'burbs, and after seeing them I didn't even…read morebother to look at other DJs for my own wedding in Chicago. Both Curt and Shawn are very professional and very quick to respond to any questions. When you call them, an actual person answers (it was always either Curt or Shawn when I called). I bought the 4 Star Wedding package and added an additional performance hour and a set of uplights. Their pricing on the uplights is extremely reasonable, because instead of paying for a separate lighting company and their delivery/setup charge, it was wrapped into the cost of the Stax setup, and they were already coming. Music-wise, you can fill in requests and special songs online ahead of time, and they play them. But they stay on top of current music trends, mixing up old and new songs, and switching between slow and dance stuff. With these guys in charge, there was never any need to force people out to the dance floor. Everyone had an amazing time and kept telling me the DJs were great. Also, they posted some great photos and a video montage on facebook - I wasn't expecting that. A couple important things to know - they do charge an extra fee to come into Chicago (they are in Cary after all) and if there's a hard setup location (lots of stairs, etc). And they only accept cashiers checks, certified checks, or cash for payment. Can't say enough good things about this group!

For the actual dancing, they played a nice mix of modern and older music, appealing to everyone that was there and of course, the DJ's kept the party fun. When it came time for my own wedding, I HAD to call Stax O Wax to see if they would come out here to the boondocks (Sterling...2+ hours from where they are based in Cary). Shawn answered my email almost immediately and sent me their pricelist, which shows the different packages they offer. He was very upbeat and professional the couple of times that I spoke to him, assuring me that it was no problem for them to travel for a wedding or other event. Unfortunately, their asking price was more than we had budgeted for our DJ, so I had to tell him thanks but no thanks but if money had been no object, I would have hired them in a second, including paying the extra money they needed for traveling this far - they are THAT good. Not being able to hire Stax O Wax was really the only disappointment of my wedding, I would definitely suggest them to anyone for any event!
