Bad experience- very poor bedside manner from vet. He didn't sit down even 30 seconds to discuss the problem. Didn't offer any options. He was cold, brisk, and abrupt. Charged a very expensive price. Absolutely the WORST groom we have ever had! Even the dog was embarrassed! No feedback when I picked her up either. The groomer mentioned at drop off that she didn't like grooming doodles. Really? Then tell them you don't want to groom doodles! NOT worth the money! Additionally, her nails were not trimmed at all and were filthy. Consequently, her behavior was odd once we got home. Big Country has some really good veterinarians, and get us in pretty quick. But that service does come at a price. Their prices are quite high in my opinion, but I normally get overruled so I just get out the credit card. service don't come cheap! read more

Over the top. Big Country Veterinarian Clinic is a place that cares about your pets... beyond just caring FOR your pets. We had to put our family dog down last week. Our golden retriever, Lucy, was nearly 13 years old and was suffering from bone cancer. It was difficult, but it was best for her to go. She was in obvious stress and it was becoming hard for her to walk. Today, we received a very kind card from BCV, with prints of our girl. Really got us. I took a critically injured kitten that was mauled by my 85 lb bulldog. The vet did not examine it for internal injury or neurological damage which I felt it had because it barely could walk and would just fall over and stare at the wall. The vet did not take the advice of his assistant to do x-rays either but just acted like it was ok and gave me 3 pills anti inflammatory but the cat died 2 days later And also he was so confident that it was ok that he gave the kitten immunizations and even scheduled a spay. I am sickened by this and will never go back to that wacky place. I have spend thousands of $$$ and they over price everything!! read more

I've taken my baby, Benson, here for almost 5 years now. They take such good care of him. He has seizures and they are careful to monitor blood levels for his medication. The vet listens to my concerns about break-through seizures as well. When my pup got stepped on, they took x-rays and did surgery on him. We board Benson when we leave out of town on extended trips and I receive daily photographs of him! I love that! Also, Benson gets groomed here monthly and he always is happy to go. This is in comparison to the 2x I took him to PetSmart and he was SO SCARED as I was leaving him. So I know they treat him well here All reminders of vaccinations, medication refill requests, appointment requests, and the pet's profile is available on their app as well! Super convenient! Overall, a 5 star facility that I recommend to everyone and their fur-babies!! read more

Question about recommending Hills gastroenterologist diet food. I took my 2and a half yr old schnauzer because she was not feeling well. The dr recommended and gave me a couple of cans the hills science diet. I was reading the ingredients the food contains and it said ground pecan shells. This is a long one, but if you're trying to decide if you should take your pet here or not, please read this first! First of all, I get that some people LOVE this place and that's great. Everyone and their pets deserve to have a vet where they feel seen, heard, and taken care of. That has NOT been our experience at all. Our situation started back in January of this year. We noticed our cat (who is just a little over a year old) was becoming lethargic, having trouble jumping and was walking with a plantigrade stance. We took him in and initially saw Dr. Ueckert. After a rushed visit, his guess was something going on neurologically, but wasn't sure what was causing it and suggested we try steroids for a couple of months just to see. So, no real answers... just a guess and a "we'll see what happens". We gave him steroids for two months and he did seem to make a little progress, but regressed a little over a month later when the hind leg weakness and lethargy started to come back even worse than the first time. I made another appointment on 4/20 (a Thursday) and saw Dr. Arche that time. He determined that our cat had hip dysplasia. We were excited to finally have an answer and hopefully a helpful plan moving forward. He gave him an injection and sent him home with pain meds to help. Our cat got progressively worse over the weekend and was not eating or drinking regularly like he was before I took him in. I scheduled another appointment the following Monday. Dr. Arche ran more blood work and said that he could have a case of pancreatitis, but wasn't sure and gave us more meds for him to take. Swing and a miss with the meds again. Another few days went by of him being inconsistent eating and drinking. I made ANOTHER appointment the following Monday (5/1). Dr. Ueckert looked at him for maybe a total of 5 minutes and told us that our cat had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and there was basically nothing to do for him with a shrug. The vet tech suggested we could try making an appointment with their specialist the next day. The specialist confirmed our worst fear. VERY advanced heart disease. Mind you, we have been trying to figure out this problem since January. I find it outrageous that this wasn't caught earlier when Dr. Ueckert seemed to come to this conclusion in less than 5 minutes after we'd been there at least 4 times since January. We've just been throwing money at this problem with no resolve when it should have been caught earlier on if all that needed to be done to come to this conclusion was listen to his heart. He's had the same symptoms since January. I'm just at a loss right now. It's hard to trust them after so many misdiagnoses. We ultimately had to make the decision to put our baby down which was another awful experience in itself. We've had two animals put down already, so we know what to expect. This was nothing like we had ever experienced. I'm not asking to be consoled by them, but after they had euthanized our baby, they just left him there on the table with us in the room. The times before, they had taken the animal out of the room immediately following euthanasia after we said our last goodbyes. This time, they just left our cat lying on the table and left the room. It felt so cold and unsympathetic. I had also asked to speak with the specialist before he left since our cat died of a genetic disease and we have his brother at home. I had questions about HCM and if there was a way to test our other cat for it. This was an incredibly painful process and we didn't want to go through it again. I was informed while we were being checked out that the specialist had already left. We will NEVER be bringing any of our animals back here. Not to mention that every time we've gone in for an appointment, we're not even taken to a room for 45 minutes to an hour after our scheduled appointment time. I can understand having to wait for a little while, but an hour after the scheduled time to even get in a room is a bit absurd. If your animals and time are precious to you, go somewhere else. read more

This was my dog's first time here. The tech and the vet made no efforts to calm her or even go through any type of etiquette to properly introduce themselves to a dog. They came into the room did not introduce themselves to my dog and immediately grabbed her in a bearhug and started giving her shots. She did not even administer the whole bordetella vaccine, my dog pulled away and the vet said "oh she didn't get it all, but that should be enough". Our cat Jack had not been neutered & it is something we struggled with for a while. He got out few days ago & he was gone for a total of three days. When we got him back he was very tired. He still ate, drank water, used the litter box as normal, & groomed himself so we just assumed it was a symptom of him being gone for so long.. This pushed us to finally get him neutered. One thing I loved is we were able to get him in the very next day. Other vets were to have us wait a month. On top of that we were able to pick him up the same day. The price was reasonable compared to other vets I had contacted. We received a couple phone calls in the process which kept us in the loop. I loved that. It's hard enough to leave our animals and I loved that they kept us informed of everything going on during his neutering process. We've had jack now for two days after his surgery & he's healing very nicely but not only that he's back to acting like his old self. I'd say he's healthier now than before we brought him in. He seems healthier than ever & I couldn't thank big country enough for their awesome care. I'll be bringing my pets here in the future! Thank you so much for helping my baby boy! read more

Took my 5 month old puppy in to get spayed and her rabies shot. Also gave them a limit to not go over. When it came time to go get my puppy they had given her a rabies, parvo, heartworm test, heartworm shot, and pulled puppy teeth. She is 5 months old!!! She is too young for a heartworm test/shot! They even said that when we checked her in, but still did it anyways. They also pulled puppy teeth that was unnecessary. I feel like they are greedy people trying to get more out of people. Would NOT recommend to ANYONE! Oh and the customer service was AWFUL! Manager was so rude, and the staff wasn't just rude, but definitely not friendly. read more

Been bringing my animals here since 2016. Usually I've always had cats but at the very end of 2018 we adopted our very first dog, she was less than a year when we got her. We always bring her in for shots and checkups, I even spend $90 every couple of months here for special food for my cat. This whole time not one person ever told us about heartworm prevention, guess what now she has heartworm! I called the office the other day to inquire about prevention after talking with a friend, they said they required a test first, seemed legit, I didn't even think to ask why she had never been tested before, she got tested a couple days later with a positive result and I am so disappointed and heartbroken about the neglect on their part to inform us as dog owners how to prevent this deadly disease. Instead of $50 every few months for a shot, which we would have paid for no question....as we don't cheapen up on the healthcare of our animals...we are now looking at a $1700 treatment plan that won't be fun for our fur baby over the next few months! Did they purposely not tell us so we would be stuck with this high bill after seeing how much we spend there? If this hadn't been my first ever dog I would have known to ask the vet about it, but nothing was ever even suggested, seriously why pay them for pet healthcare if they can't even tell us basic stuff like this? Been taking my pets here for a few years, great service, very friendly people. Prices are very competitive and the whole staff has a great passion for animals. The lady that works the front is great and after a few visits she remembered the names of my pets! It is also the only place I will board my dogs, before the first time I boarded them they were nice enough to show me the kennels, which are very roomy! The other 2 reviews for here are not for Ridgemont Animal Clinic, but rather the Emergency Vet Clinic which operates out of the same building. Ridgemont is only open 8-5 Mon-Fri. I've used both, and yes, the emergency clinic is pricey, but c'mon, it's also more expensive to go to the emergency room rather than your regular doctor, why should it be different for your pet?!? Also, if you're one of these idiots who doesn't want to pay for your pets' care, don't have pets!! read more

if you love your pet stay FAR FAR away! Said we should start to think about putting down our not even 2 year old puppy because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. EDIT: After I left big country and they wanted me to see their specialist in Dallas I took her to another vet the same day and he gave her a shot and said the antibiotics big country gave her was crap and doesnt do anything. She was in perfect health the next day after her shot. So I get it's a science but when you don't listen to the owner not take into account what they are saying your failing your patient. Giving up after the 2nd visit when you haven't done any test and say it's time to put her down is unacceptable ESPECIALLY when another vet looked at her n figured it out in 5 min when it took them 2 visits to give her crappy antibiotic read more

Everyone I've dealt with has been very nice. When I had one of my dogs there the vet remembered and asked me about one of my cats. The prices are very reasonable. They also do boarding and grooming in the same building! My only complaint is one of my cats records was messed up as far as the actual date he received his rabies shot. They were able to correct his records and all is right now. Aside from that they are a great place to take your pets to for a 1-stop shop for your new puppy and/or kitten as well as your older pets. Our sweet Louie was taken in after a tasty bite from a rattlesnake. He was immediately treated with compassion and reassurance. The vets kept us updated with his treatment throughout the night and he was doing so well he was able to come home the next day. Now aster a few days our sweet Louie is feeling so much better is back to normal. If it hadn't been for this vet clinic, I am positive Louie would not be here today. Took my 5 year old dog in for routine shots and grooming. When I picked her up she was still wet. A few days later I noticed a huge abscess that was bothering her and though she had been injured in the yard. Took her back to be seen and was told she had an infection and the wound would need to be cleaned and sutured. No explanation of what caused an injury by the vet. I paid my bill and let my dog heal before taking her to another groomer. 4 abscess' were found on her from poor grooming. Without talking about my experience with big country, PetSmart knew what the abscess' were from. 600$ later I finally have her back to the healthy dog that she was before I took her in for shots and grooming at big country. read more

I would like to take the time to thank Big Country Veterinary Clinic. The helped me deal with an urgent allergic reaction my pup was having. They were so kind and gentle with my dog, she didn't even squeal when they gave her injections to help her. This vet puts the needs of their patients as a top priority. This vet did not do any unnecessary testing or procedures and made sure that my pup was ok before she left. They are unbelievably kind and reasonable with cost. They took care of my pup, and they took care of me too! I called there absolutely hysterical. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for what they did for us today. Have been bringing my pets here 20 years plus. My Dachound fur baby had Cushings Diseae and Dr. Arche was wonderful in managing her condition. She recently died at 15 years and they were very compassionate in her last moments. They have always been able to see pets at a moments notice if emergency. read more

So unimpressed with the lack of friendliness of staff and the fact that the technicians and drs are not personable or concerned about making the animal's experience (or yours) a comfortable one. The vet appointments have always been quick and pricey, I always left feeling rushed. They offered an expensive "natural" shampoo for my dogs extremely dry skin and it did nothing to help him. He's had this dry skin issue since he was born and now he is 1 years old. We switched to Chimney Rock and they fixed his dry skin issue with a steroid shot. Which is only a temporary fix as we know, but we discussed long term options as well. If you're looking for a personable veterinarian clinic with friendly staff and knowledgeable personable vets, don't visit Big country. Go to Chimney Rock instead. read more

Will never take any of my pets there again after telling them we didn't need a blood test for our dog because we just got one the doctor called and talked my wife in to getting it and then told us they needed to wait a week before they could nurtured our dog because she had the runs. I wish I were writing this review under better circumstances, but the staff and doctors at Big Country went above and beyond to make sure our little Bernie's last days were pain free. They were great at keeping us in the loop about how Bernie's treatment was going day to day and when that difficult time came to make the decision to let him go... they were very kind and compassionate. It's never easy to make that decision, but the vet assured us that it was the selfless thing to do. The prices were fair and although we left without our Bernie, we know that they did their very best to make him comfortable. Thank you for making a painful experience slightly less stressful. Came in with a cat in pain and freaked out about costs and problems on a tight budget. Was the only clinic open on a Easter Eve so I had to go. Came in wanting and concerned about stabilizing my cat who was breathing weird due to fluid in lungs. They wanted to tack on about $250 more in tests and shots despite me reminding them I had very little financial room to maneuver with. Did not go over well with staff as I turned into something that was disgusting to look at or talk to. Had to endure the no mercy glares of the receptionist and horrid vet tech who when I was checking out threw my cat carrier down in front of me and scurried away as if I was some monster. I would never go back here after what happened. My 8 week old pug puppy broke his leg at 12:30 at night. It was the only animal clinic open in the area. We rushed him there immediately. He was screaming in pain, I was trying to calm him down, and we were told that the vet couldn't see him until we set up a payment plan, even though we had 500 dollars combined and told him. Don't get me wrong, the guy at the service desk was incredibly nice. He came over to check on him, but told me since he wasn't a vet, he didn't think he had internal bleeding, but there was no way for him to know. Thirty minutes of waiting to sign up for the payment plan "Care Credit", and we still hadn't even seen the vet. It took 45 minutes and finally he came out of his office to see him. I was freaking out, since I didn't know what was entirely wrong with my pug puppy and just prayed he didn't have internal bleeding. We found out an hour later that he had fractured his leg in two places. They put a cast on his leg, gave me some pain meds for him, and an X-ray cd for my vet. The next morning, my vet in another town was able to see him and I gave him the cd. It was blank! I called up Ridgemont, and they said it was common and I could just pick up another CD after 5. I was out of town! It was ridiculous and the receptionist was rude. I went back and was given attitude from the lady at the desk when I asked if she could double check the CD this time. It was a nightmare. Not only did I receive terrible service, I'm now saddled with a 450 dollar bill through GE Capital with 27% interest. I get 20, rude calls from them a day. I can't believe I got saddled with a huge bill through a fraudulent company. Thanks a lot! I'd never go back here again. read more

My cat of 10 years old lost his voice and couldn't meow. I googled it and everything I read said he should definitely be seen because losing his meow was not normal. I brought him in to get his shots and let them know that he couldn't meow. They seemed to be more concerned about a small scratch he had (he is both an inside and outside cat) than his lost meow. They acted completely baffled and the vet (a woman, I don't remember her name) told me she would research it then call me. I left there and waited for a call that I never received. My mother went back up there to get her dogs their shots and told them that they saw my cat and never called me back to which they responded "Yeah, we're just not going to worry about that." We called another vet and they told us to bring him in immediately because it could be a number things. I won't be taking my animals there any longer. read more

Wouldn't help us in an emergency because we didn't have the money they were going to charge. We paid a $42 office charge and then they wanted over 200 to give IV's fluids, etc. before looking at the wound which is why I took her in in the first place. We took her in at 4:45 and they cared more about getting off at 5 instead of helping. Options were to put her down or take her home. REALLY????????? read more

The facilities and most of the staff are wonderful and accommodating. Jennifer, who I believe is in charge of the pet resort, is always wonderful and kind. She sends regular picture updates when you board your pooch there. I always know that my pup is being taken care of well in their hands. That being said, one of the workers on the resort side is not friendly by any means. I unfortunately had to board my pup for almost a week to help a family member through the most traumatic time in their life. Every other staff member shared their condolences and gave words of encouragement for my family. This single staff member was enough to take my 5 star rating down to a 4 due to the nature of their comments and cold demeanor. I love my dog like family and she is incredibly social and loving despite the first three months of her life being full of abuse and neglect (we found her emaciated in the country when she was three months old). I know I am very lucky to have my pooch in my life and I treat her as such. I will continue to trust this facility with all of her care and to be her home away from home when I cannot. I know this employee I have an issue with treats my dog well, they just don't seem to like me. read more

We had such a great experience here! We waited less than 5 minutes to get into a room and less than 5 mins to be seen once in a room. The vet, Dr Hodges, was very sweet and knowledgeable, and the vet tech was also very kind and even carried our kitty from the waiting room to the exam room for me.
