He threw our dog in the Kennel while my wife was standing right there and when my wife asked him why he did this he proceeded to say he doesn't care about hurting his feelings. The owner of kratos asked him to please do something that's when he listened to his lungs that's all!!! He said his lungs are CLEAR and that he'll be fine and wanted to send him home with oral medicine until the owner asked if he can give him a shot... He didn't make it. He did as soon as they pulled up to their home. But yet his lungs were clear.....the owner even stated he's peeing blood and he said he was going to be ok.... I love this Patriot! He's the real deal. He gets right to the heart of the issue. He's professional, courteous, helpful, punctual, knowledgeable, & takes care of everything from greeting you, answering the phone, & taking care of your fur baby. I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to be able to have that kind of service for me personally coming from big cities like Miami & Los Angeles. I definitely recommend him. If you're looking for someone to be your friend, small talk, & be ginger with everything, then this is not the vet for you. The only thing I would add is the large scale needs to be recalibrated & getting a baby scale for cats & small dogs under 20lbs would be helpful. None the less, love this guy! read more

Dr. Hitchcock was great with my dog. She is old and has congestive heart failure. I had just moved to Abilene and needed to refill her medication. He provided the medicine and also offered advice that helped me make her more comfortable. He is a big man and he was very kind and gentle with my 8 pound dog. read more

Perhaps Dr. Hitchcock's skills in caring for animals is satisfactory, but his people skills are non-existent. I thought it odd when he answered the phone himself when calling to set up an appointment. But after meeting him in person I realize that he probably can't keep any employees given his rude, condescending attitude. I brought my puppy to this location for an abscess under his jaw and that will be the last time. I called to reschedule my appointment and the gentleman that answered the phone was curt and unprofessional. When we arrived he failed to greet us and raised his voice asking me to repeat myself when I spoke clearly reiterating. He was also, very rough handling my puppy by grabbing him by his ear and twisting his head to the side causing him to cry, and scolded him. He also trimmed his nails and cut one of them too short and he bled. I was very displeased and disappointed with my experience especially since I was referred to this clinic as being one of the best. Buffalo Gap Road Animal Clinic is the absolute worst Veterinary office I have ever been to and I advise anyone to go to a different location if you love and cherish your pets. Since I am unable to leave a second review I will add on to my original. I took my puppy to this location on Friday, February 2, 2023 and the doctor contacted me yesterday afternoon to check on the healing process( my review) He asked if I wanted to discuss why I left a poor review and I felt this was the perfect opportunity to clear the air. However, I was sadly mistaken. I began to inform him that I did not appreciate him throwing my debit card at me and he quickly interrupted and I quote stated " I was full of $###". I told him to have a good day and disconnected the line and he proceeded to text me instead of calling back to apologize. I would never use this vet again and cannot in good faith recommend him to anyone. I have patiently waited for my daughter to tell her story and post her review. Now that she is done, I need to move forward and tell my experience. When my daughter's dog, Daisy was sick she took her to this clinic and the vet gave her antibiotics. After the use of the antibiotics and Daisy was having a more difficult breathing and began vomiting, I rushed Daisy back to the clinic for my daughter who was working at a new job. The vet was rude and gave me the impression that he wanted us anywhere but there. After taking Daisy's weight and temperature, he very rudely asked me what I thought he should do because Daisy had not lost any weight and was not running fever. He then proceeded to tell me nothing was wrong with her and that I just needed to take her home. There was no offer of x-rays or blood work to find the cause of her problem. Being shaken from the horrible experience, my daughter immediately called another veterinary clinic. X-rays and blood work confirmed a massive inoperable tumor that covered her chest. R.I.P. beloved Daisy. She had to be euthanized that afternoon. If you need treatment for your pet, I implore you to seek out another provider! Do not let this gentleman misguide you. You owe the best care to your pets and I ensure you, this veterinarian is not it!! Looking back, when you asked me what you should do, my reply to you is "Your JOB"! read more

Dr. Hitchcock is one of the best vets bar none that I have ever met or that has met my animals and trust me I have met a lot of vets. His wide range of knowledge always amazes me and he welcomes questions about procedures or almost anything. My dog is very comfortable with him and that says a lot because she is a really a baby about just getting her nails cut! He has been my vet for 3 years now and I would not want another one. He is so very unique and amiable, easy to talk to, easy to work with, willing to answer all my questions and is willing to share his knowledge freely. He does not lecture me and always shows my pup a little love. He really is the best I could recommend to anyone! If you have a problem with point blank answers then don't ask anything you don't want an answer to, he is not thin skinned and will tell you the truth whether it's what you thought or wanted because it is what he deems best for your animal and you. Now that is the kind of vet that is the best for me! Awesomeness! He is always willing to help as an emergency vet and has many times. His office may be small but he is larger than large and has a fantastic personality and storytelling abilities that will absolutely boggle your mind. Yeah, he's cool like that! I'm so sadden by the experience my sister had at this clinic today, and although she's too kind to leave a review, it was so terrible I wanted to warn others. My sister brought her dog in to get fixed and unfortunately she found out that her dog was expecting. Although it is so unfortunate and sad that she could not keep the pregnancy, the vet made a bad situation incredibly worse by picking up the bloody gestational sac, lifting it up to show my sister, and say "this is why I had to charge you extra." My sister was horrified!! That was completely unprofessional, and I can't believe the vet could possibly think this was appropriate to show any client, much less an expecting mother! Your statement was very strong and out of character. I've been knowing Dr. Hitchcock for quite some time. I've always considered Dr. Hitchcock a man with character and morals. He is of the old school when men took pride in their profession and worked hard to provide for their own. I can honestly say that I have always found Dr. Hitchcock to be very dependable and reliable. He reminds me of an old time country doctor and the days when they still made house calls caring for the sick and elderly. They either took their oath seriously and cared for the sick or they didn't. My biggest disappoint in veterinarians is the outrageous fees they charge for their services. It gives you the impression that it is all about money and not at all about honoring their oath for promoting animal health and relieving an animal's suffering. In the time I've known and dealt with Dr. Hitchcock, he has dedicated himself to his profession with dignity and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics. My experience here goes back about 6 months ago. My wife was panicked because our 12 year old chihuahua had something logged in her throat. Both of us took her to our "regular" vet. At the front desk they told us the vet was at lunch and we could wait. Nope! My dog was literally stressed out shaking and we needed a solution fast. We passed Buffalo Gap and saw this clinic. I rushed our dog in and was met at the counter by the vet. His daughter was present and it seemed like he was leaving for the day. But he wasn't frazzled caused we rushed in. Dr. Hitchcock is a very knowledgeable, kind and caring vet. He works to accommodate my schedule, which is unusual because most medical professionals don't mind wasting their clients time. He takes the time to explain things so the layman can understand what's going on. I only have dogs and cats in my family, but I have friends that have birds, reptiles, and snakes. He stays late every day so that people have a place to take their animals during the hours that vet offices are closed and emergency vets are not yet open. Our dog gave us a scare and we were able to get her seen immediately by him even though over the phone he was able to assess that she would be fine. Late 2013 I picked out a gorgeous little kitty (Elize) from the local animal shelter and of course needed to get her fixed. The shelter handed provided me a list of vets who would take the provided coupon and provide the services, I selected Dr Hitchcock's location as it was close to my house and their opening hours suited my schedule. Upon calling I reached the doctor and was initially put a little off by how gruff he was on the phone but never the less set up to drop my little kitty off the next day. 8:20am (or so) the next day I came by little kitty in toe and met the doctor at the reception once again he was a little gruff and quick to the point, but at no point was I offended or belittled - I just put it down to hey, its morning. He had a look at my kitty, commented that she was small but looked gorgeous. He said she would be ready by mid afternoon and we could pick her up between then and their closing of 6. 5.45pm - running a little late, I stop by to pick up the kitty, apologising for running late, doctor could not have been more kind about it. He talked me through how the surgery went, letting me know shes still a little out of it and just to put her box in a safe spot and let her wake up on her own and within 24h she'll be 100% again. He went off to get her from the back room and spoke kind things to her as he brought her back to me. He said he would sort out getting the paperwork back to the shelter and that I was set to go. He shook my hand and off I went home. Just recently (April 2015) I purchased another kitty (Muse) from the shelter for a friend for my first cat. Given the service I received the first time, I wanted to go back to Dr. Hitchcock. After I picked her up, I gave him a call asking when I could drop her off, once again, a little gruff on the phone but said to drop her off this afternoon if I wanted to. When I took her in, he treated both kitty and myself with respect and although he was straight to the point - not rude in the slightest. Kitty ended up needing to stay overnight and I was unable to pick her up until lunch time the next time but she was well taken care off. Her surgery site is now healed up and you can barely tell she was touched. Another reviews have said some nasty things about Dr. Hitchcock, but he is very professional and does care for the animals in his care. Yes, he is straight to the point, and on the phone can be a little gruff, but his work is outstanding and you can tell he is passionate about his job. We recently brought home a shelter kitty and had her both fixed and declawed here. I felt like she was taken great care of and that the procedures were done professionally and cleanly. Her tummy stitches healed especially well! You'll be seen quickly, which is nice, and the surgery rates were very affordable. The vet here won't necessarily pander to you, but he knows what he's doing and that's all that matters to me. We are new to Abilene and have tried out a couple of other places here (just to get a feel) and have already nixed one (there are surprisingly a LOT of veterinary options in this town...the town I grew up in had only two). This is the most unprofessional, rude, callous veterinarian I have had the displeasure of speaking with. Do not let him use glue on spay incisions. The wound will open and when you inquire about it over the phone he will curse at you, condescend to you, and refuse to cooperate with you in any way. This is honestly the only vet we ever take our animals to. I don't know what in the world these people are talking about when they say he throws their animal around... He's never once done that to any of the various animals we've taken in there before. Dr. Hitchcock can be abrasive at times, but you can tell he cares about the animals and he has ALWAYS been more than fair about payment for services. I've been to vets (when we've had an issue out of town) that charge like crazy for just looking at our pets. Dr. Hitchcock has never charged me for something if he doesn't honestly have to. We walked in for an emergency visit of our new six week old kitten. Dr. Hitchcock didn't hesitate for a second and went right to the examination. He gave his professional recommendation, asked what we would like to do, after which he promptly administered an injection. He then sent us home with Hill's a/d and a prescription of Cephalexin with instructions and a very candid prognosis. We were in and out in 15 minutes for under $75 for everything !!! I was amazed ! We had been to another vet earlier in the day and they spent 30 minutes on paperwork and suggested starting point diagnosis consents, etc. Aware I was being primed for a good you know what, I paid the quickly mounting bill and left. We went to see Dr. Hitchcock, aware of his direct approach in this emergent situation. If you have a medical pet emergency and want your pet treated promptly, competently and without having to take out a second mortgage - I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hitchcock. read more

I have 6 dogs, ranging in age from 2 to 15 years , 3 older cats, a green cheek conure and rare breed chickens. He is opinionated, and you never have to wonder what he is thinking.
