I used to park at parking lot off Kimball Bridge, there are plenty of parking spaces there. At winter time, specially after heavy rain, fewer walkers or hikers were around. Middle of road was blocked by water, so only about 2 miles was walkable. But still, I enjoyed walking in the winter fresh air, and even saw a deer, they used to goofing around in group of 4 or 5. I definitely will come back very often during summer. I'm glad that we have such a nice trail in the neighborhood. read more

Lovely and very well maintained park. There is a bike repair station, public restrooms, and shaded pathways throughout. There are a lot of cyclists that use this park, but they seemed very respectful of pedestrians. read more

I've been frequenting here for about 6 years now, both for hiking and running. I feel fortunate to live close to this trail, and it has improved my health so much. It is well maintained, mostly shaded for hot days, and an easy course. Parking can require some patience during weekend mornings. It is heavily trafficked on the weekends. The people here are really nice and supportive. Plenty of cyclists but they are mindful of pedestrians. Just make sure to always look back before you pass another runner/walker, at a junction, or towards a bridge. The workers are courteous and friendly. Others seem to really like this place as well since I've been seeing the same people for years. It's probably a good place to make friends, if that's what you're looking for. The only reason I took a star off is because there appears to only be one place to get water- at Big Creek Park in Roswell. Before covid, you could also use the water fountains at Rock Mill Park, but they have since then been shut down. They should really restore water there- very helpful for runners/cyclists. read more

Very nice fully paved trail head accessible from old Alabama road. Full trail is 15.8 miles from Roswell all the way to Alpharetta. When you turn in from old Alabama road there's a small parking lot, but keep on driving for ~0.5 mile or so there's another bigger parking lot right at the start of the trailhead. The parking is free and there's a bathroom, bike rack at the trailhead. read more

We parked at the entrance just north of Old Milton off of NorthPoint way. The lot is small, but there were plenty of spots when we were there. We unloaded our bikes and headed south on the path. There are no stops nor street crossings as it goes under all of the streets. It is paved the entire way. My favorite part is the scenary. There are houses, nature, water, bridges, and tunnels. Again, never having to cross a road. There are a few benches along the way. It was about a 50/50 split of walkers versus riders and plenty of space in most parts of the trail. We covered about 4.5 miles and then turned around. I hope to cover the whole thing very soon! read more

This has quickly become my family's favorite place to ride our bikes. The trail splits three ways at the trail head and you can head toward Roswell or two separate points in Alpharetta. There is an abundance of wild life and beautiful tree cover on the paved paths. There are several spots to look out on small bridges over the water. I don't know if is this the right page to write this.... I parked at the Old Alabama Rd entrance. Upon turning into the entrance, you'll see a small parking lot near a trail entry in the woods. I believe a lot of bikers park in that lot and head into the woods. That lot is OK - pretty small. If you go past that lot and go straight (for like 45 seconds), you'll see another parking lot closer to the actual walking trail. That parking lot is bigger than the 1st one, but not like huge. *I'd arrive here early in the day or like at off time. I've seen cars overflow. I really loved running here because it was so peaceful. Just nice and so chill. I ran my virtual half marathon here and time just flew by. Not hilly - the only times there were basic hills was when I had to run on the bridges. This place isn't super crowded. There are other people on it ie joggers, strollers, etc. But the best part is you'll be running in the woods!... with a very clear concrete paths. Oh - and the Greenway does have several other stops. Like Haynes Bridge Rd, Kimball Rd, etc. read more

Nice use of public land. Safery is a bit of an issue , So don't walk Alone. Bring a friend. We can't wait until the Forsyth and Fulton greenways connect. More space will be great. Walker? Runner? Biker? Skater? All of the above? Head to the Big Creek Greenway to get some exercise and enjoy the great outdoors. An 8 mile stretch beginning at the Roswell/Alpharetta line and wandering along Big Creek in Alpharetta, the Greenway has a paved path for use by all, certain paths for use by walkers/runners only and an off road mulched path for mountain bikes. The Greenway has multiple entry points with plentiful parking and (usually) bathrooms, water fountains and a few tables and benches. In addition, there are benches placed strategically throughout the path (along with trash cans - keep the Greenway green, people!) At selected locations, you can also rent a bike to take on the paved portions. This is also a popular place for residents to walk their dogs, giving the pooches new territory to mark...for the most part, people pick up behind their dogs, but there are always one or two that just don't give a damn, so keep your eyes open if you wander off onto the shoulders. Long range plans include connecting it to the Forsyth county greenway for a total of almost 15 miles of wooded trail. This is how I want my tax dollars spent! Note that there the weekends are pretty busy so if you want to avoid the crowds, go super early. read more

Much like the Forsyth County counterpart, Alpharetta's section of BCG is well paved and quite well maintained. Although as it's even more convenient to get to as its quite close to 400, I personally think the road noises are louder too since there are more traffic nearby. Still this is quite an oasis in the suburban town filled with cars and shopping centers. I had a quite nice walk from the Rock Mill Park entrance all the way up to Webb Bridge Road but had to turn back since they were doing maintenance construction. Through out the trail I saw evidence of tractor clearing the path after a night of rain that mudded up the trail. I found it quite nice that they work feverishly to clear the trail even on a weekday when pedestrian traffic was quite low. Although I think I prefer the quieter Forsyth section of the trail, this is quite a nice trail especially if you live nearby. Perfect way to get some great cardio exercise while enjoying the scenery and nature read more

When I moved up to the North Point area last year, I obviously used the "let's check out the restaurants in the area" excuse, rather than the "check out that Greenway thing directly behind the complex!" Well a couple weeks ago at the quack appointment I hit the scale, and got the hint that it was time to check out the Greenway! I am disappointed in myself that it took so long but relieved I finally did as this is a beautiful, clean and safe walking trail. I've seen plenty of dogs but no droppings and no litter and I have to say I was surprised. Whether going to eat or going to get the mail, I leave the car keys in the apartment and take the trail while enjoying it. As others have said, this being shaded makes everything that much more enjoyable and/or more able to withstand in the heat. There is the Forsyth Greenway off of GA141, about 2 miles West of GA9 that goes South to MacFarland Pkwy and then their is the trail along Riverside Dr/AzelaDr in Southern Roswell and I once heard the cities will one day have these totally connected and Sandy Springs will by that time also have trails to and through their Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. This review is primarily for the Haynes Bridge parking lot. It has ample parking including bike rack, trash cans, & a porta-potty. It has no running water, which would be nice so that you don't have to bring full water bottles. It does have a nice light and safety camera. I love this access point since it's close to 400, and it gives you options for going multiple directions for a few miles. The Greenway itself is well signed (markers every .5mi). The area is well maintained, as I have seen workers regularly blowing off the leaves, edging the path, and removing trash from the trash cans. read more

I love this location! Not only is it relatively flat (no hills), but it's mostly shaded. At the end of the entrance, you can go right or left. I've gone both directions and both ways have their own advantages. If you're looking for a safe place to run or walk, this is a great spot. My only complaints are the bikers on this path (all of the Greenway) can be rude if you're walking/running with another person and aren't exactly off to the side. I wis this location had a public bathrooms too and not just a porta john. read more

Awesome trail full of neat nature to look at. I love coming here with my dog and at other times when I want to ride my bike. Mostly flat and well maintained. I have also had many strangers smile and say hello while walking on this trail in particular. In my opinion this will be five stars when they improve the parking situation and complete the connections between the other trails. As a side note it would be nice to have some recycling bins along the way. There are a bunch of water bottles littering parts of the wetlands. read more

Wow. I like this, which is unusual because it's a concrete path and I prefer dirt. But it's a particularly fine concrete path, one that winds among wetlands and forest. The portion inside Big Creek Park is awesome and completely overshadows the rest of the park, even the dirt trails. read more

This review is specifically for the Mcfarland entrance to the trail. The greenway itself typically deserves 5-stars, although today, March 29,2019 I noticed a handful of holes in the decking between McFarland and Union Hill. I always park at the McFarland entrance and I've never had trouble with vandalism, but I know others have. What I'd really love though, are bathrooms or some kind of pavilion and restrooms/changing rooms at this entrance to the trail. If you need a restroom, be sure to enter at the Union Hill/ Bethel view/Fowler Park entrance. I suspect this will change/happen when the area behind the parking is finished being developed. Of course I will be back. It's a great trail for walking, running, and biking. read more

WOW! This trail is amazing!! It is totally paved path with room for walkers, runners and bikers - but no motorized vehicles, which makes it so much safer than walking/running on streets/sidewalks. There are several entrances to the 9+ mile trail in Roswell, Alpharetta and Forsyth, each with free dedicated parking lots. Most of the trail system is through wooded areas following the water - just beautiful. Whether you are trying to get in a 'workout' or just want to enjoy being in nature, I would highly recommend this trail system!! Every time I've been there, there have been plenty of people so it feels very safe. Trail is open: March thru October - 6:00 am to 9:30 pm and November thru February - 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. One warning - it is easy to go a long way before you realize it. Be aware of how far you are going so you have the energy to return to your vehicle. Also, pay attention to the signage of where you parked. As mentioned above, there are several entrances to the Greenway, so it could be confusing to find your car if you are not paying attention to the signage on the way out AND the way back. :) read more

This is a great area with miles of paved trails and boardwalks for walkers, runners, cyclists, inline skaters, longboarders, skateboarders, skooters, and dog owners. There is a restroom at park entrance (which is next to an Ethan Allen), a stand with attached bicycle tools (didn't see skate tool but maybe those too), and a bicycle pump. Since the trails follow and cross the river, it does get wet and muddy with trail closures posted at trail intersections. read more

I live off the Mill Creek Lake or whatever the pond's name is. This is a great area for many types of shoots. I see many prom photo shoots, engagement and as well the sunsets here are amazing. I walked outside and shot this with minimal edits. There are a ton of geese and as well occasional deer. The locals are reasonably friendly. read more

The Big Creek Greenway consists of a lovely stretch of paved trails in Alpharetta. It's actually two separate trails as of now with future plans to connect them. This review is based on the roughly 7-mile stretch of trail from Big Creek Park to Webb Bridge Road. It's a path that I bike often. For a trail that spans under ten miles, there is actually an astonishing amount of scenic variety to enjoy on the Greenway. If you travel from end-to-end you will encounter ponds, wooded areas, meadows, streams and some well maintained wooden bridges. It's a great way to get out, get active and connect with nature when the weather permits. You'll encounter people involved in many kinds of activities on the Greenway. On any given day you'll see people walking/jogging/running, biking, skateboarding, roller skating or... scootering. Heck, I saw a guy on a pogo stick once. People are generally mindful of safety and abide by common sense (and posted) roadway rules. Vehicles yield to pedestrians. Sometimes you'll encounter speedsters on road bikes who choose to blow right past the 15 MPH speed limit, but those are relatively rare. Most cyclists maintain a safe speed and share the roadway. There are restroom facilities at most entry points, and these are usually well maintained. Be aware that the Greenway officially closes at sundown. read more

MCFARLAND ROAD ACCESS I really enjoy walking on this stretch of the Greenway. It is easily accessible from McFarland Rd just east of 400. It is not as populated as the other areas so you can actually experience a bit of serenity. When the weather is really nice, there are lots of kids on bikes and other toys so you just have to be a little cautious. It is great for running, walking and biking. There is a port-a-potty at the entrance and there are a couple of covered areas along the route in case of rain. I love the amenities such as benches, (for resting or reading) and waste stations to clean up after your pets. They also have very visible mile markers to help you keep track of your distance as you walk. When you start your walk, you will encounter a paved sidewalk but much of the walkway is a boardwalk, (wooden slabs). This may be an issue if you prefer a smoother surface. This place can be a little isolated and creepy in the evening as it gets later and darker. You will look up and suddenly it has gotten very dark and you are a mile away from your car. Just be mindful of this and plan accordingly. 5/29/15 My rating has not changed but I just wanted to add a couple of notes: If you can wait to use the restroom, you will find nice gender specific ones at the end of the 2.2 mile mark or you have the option of the unfortunate port-a-potty at the beginning of the McFarland Road entrance. The beginning of the walkway can be muddy after significant rain and the planks can be very slippery so be careful. Just prior to the 2.2 mile mark, you can sometimes spot deer grazing. They are beautiful and if it is quiet, they will not run away and you can quietly take a picture. read more

I love the greenway, but I'm reserving that last star because it can be so much more. It's great for recreation and it's also convenient to the North Point Mall area and any of the subdivisions and office complexes that abut it. But all that seems like an accident. With a little more ambition, some well-thought-out spur trails could connect it to places like the downtowns of Roswell and Alpharetta. This would be a boon to both commerce and people who want to get places safely on a bicycle. It's great as a linear path, but down the line we should start thinking a little more crooked. That said, I'm on it as much as I can be. We pretty much settled on the house we bought last year when we realized the neighborhood connected to the greenway. Let that motivate the holders of the purse strings: If you build it, they will come (They built it, we came.) Oh? You wanted a review? Flat, safe, scenic, lengthy. And happy hour at 5 Seasons North is just a few pedal strokes away. read more

This place is one way to ease the pain of paying property taxes in Alpharetta. This place is great for running, roller blading and long dog walks. The city really keeps the paved trail in great shape. The only problem is that the trail runs near a creek so it rains the path floods. this is a great park for walkers. BUT due to discourteous speed bikers it is not safe. My wife and I just walked this at the Northpoint entrance today at noon. The rules are clearly noted on a placard at the trail head. But 95% of the bikers totally ignore them! We walk at about 3.3MPH. Almost all of the bikers (and we were passed by about 20 going our direction) were in excess of 20+MPH (limit is 15MPH), and ONLY ONE announced "on your left" as they approached. They were all coming too fast and are so quiet you don't even know that they are coming. THIS IS CLEARLY DANGEROUS! I am going on record because if someone is hit and injured, Alpharetta and the biker doing the hitting will be liable. To the City of Alpharetta, please make this safe for pedestrians by enforcing the rules. Let us all enjoy the great Greenway! WF read more

Cute trail for running and cycling. I heard that the whole trail runs over 20 mi and the place served me well for a Saturday long run. I personally prefer soft gravel over concrete/asphalt for most runs though, which is why I subtracted one star in terms of its suitability as a running trail. read more

Living in this part of the world, I get a bit distressed and frustrated when I want to get outdoors. I usually go to the same one or two places over and over again-- there just is not much variety. So today, I decided to try something different-- this greenway. Off of Northpoint Parkway, there is a parking lot across from Haverty's, and along with a well paved trail for jogging and biking, there is a wooded, mulch trail through a meadow that is more appropriate for nature lovers (like me!). I brought along my binoculars and looked for some wildlife. In fairness, it is the middle of winter, so there wasn't too much going on, but it was a cool break from city-life. There actually was a deer hanging out right along the trail that didn't seem to mind me much. Nice to see her there, but I'm not sure how long it will be before she is dead on Northpoint Parkway. The greenway is surrounded by busy roads, so there is plenty of ambient noise coming from both sides. But besides that, it is awesome that this thing exists. It stands in stark contrast to the state of the creek system running through the city of Atlanta, Peachtree Creek, which lays in ruin due to generations of neglect people had for nature. But in this new, northern part of the city, people seem to have learned that it is best to preserve rather than to abuse, and this greenway is an impressive gem in the middle of an otherwise desolate and depressing suburban landscape. read more

First I want to update the first review that states it's only 6 miles. It has doubled in length, and it now passes through Alpharetta and Roswell. I'm only giving the greenway 3 stars because I use it every morning to commute to work. I commute by bike, and I find the greenway to be extremely helpful in avoiding some terrible roads (Old Alabama Connector) but it's very disappointing in that it was portly planned and not taken care of. The greenway was built in the flood plain, which means any time it rains, it's unusable. If it rains a good amount, the greenway can be 4 feet under water in parts. This is extremely frustrating for people like me, that use it for more than recreation. They'll also close portions of it without any reason, and leave it close for weeks sometimes. If you jump the rail, you'll be unable to find any issue, and it leaves you wondering why it's closed. The greenway is fine for recreation, but don't depend on it too much to help you get around Alpharetta/Roswell on your bike. read more

The Big Creek Greenway is an excellent example of an urban trail / greenway project that gives residents a safe connected trail-way system for running, walking, biking, blading. Currently the paved trail runs from Roswell's Big Creek Park all the way north of Alpharetta High School, for about 8 miles or so. There is then a missing link, and another section in that runs through Cumming. I reserve 5 stars for when the sections connect. At that time I will be able to bicycle from Roswell to Lake Lanier and back - something I want to be able to do on a regular basis. read more

I love this trail, except when is flooded due to heavy rain. Early mornings you can spy dear, hawks, I have even seen an owl fly right over me in the middle of the day! Is great for biking walking and jogging, except it can get pretty busy on the weekends when the weather is pretty so make sure you stay to the right and be conscientious of other people. read more

Great place to walk, jog, riding in Alpharetta! It's not flat course, it goes up and down, curves, and animal crossing ha. Yes, there are plenty of deer at the BCG. For people who are not from Georgia, it was kinda interesting. There are multiple entrances for the greenway, so do use app like where is my car to remember where is your car. Big Creek should puts up more direction signs & map. It is really easy to get lost in it. Tips: Go there early especially during Fall and Winter, do use GPS! read more

One of the few true car free trails in the area. Wildlife sightings are highly probable with deer, turtles, frogs and a variety of birds to sit and hear. Big Creek Park also features mountain biking trails and pump tracks. Biggest draw back to trail is relatively poor connections to surrounding businesses, especially at the Roswell end. In Alpharetta there is some access to chain restaurants and big box stores, but this is also limited and connections are not great. read more

Came here on a Saturday to do a long run to train for my half-marathon. It's a very nice path for running, walking, and biking. There are a lot of trees everywhere, so it's very scenic and refreshing. There are also many entry points to the greenway, so it's easily accessible. But all the side entry paths can be confusing and misleading sometimes. Overall, I'm satisfied with this trail. I will definitely be back again for another run! read more
