Another lie - their first quote and follow up more reasonable offer was given relatively late in the day - no way they could have started work that day and no mention of the more reasonable offer being based on them being " in the area". Only when I said I would accept their more reasonable offer - take it or leave were they willing to honor their more reasonable offer. No discussion of discounts at that time. Told them I needed to see in writing their documents for license/insured/ bonded and quote/ scope before starting work. they started work without presenting any of this. by the time I got home from work - they were wrapping up. 35% coupon came in the mail before they started work and after we agreed upon a price and scope - talking about a two day window here. The coupon is meant to get their foot in the door. from other reviews -looks like they routinely will not honor it. When I presented the coupon - they refused to honor it. Claimed it was "included" in the original quote - absolute lie. Some of the workers were drinking beer while working - high risk work and alcohol not a good mix. Finally I called 5 Star in North Augusta last Saturday. I told them that I had only one stump. I said that I have had a hard time getting one stump removed. They replied that they were on another job but that they would take care of that before going home for the evening. They also quoted me a great price and showed up late afternoon to take care of my problem. Courteous, efficient and thorough. I was delighted and gave them an unexpected $100 tip. John, one of the foreman who works for Jon, was ready to provide us an extremely reasonable quote and lower than the competitors. He let us know approximately when they would start and how long it would take. They called the day before to keep us updated. They started early and stayed until it was completed. They did an amazing job!! We had just had some landscaping done in our front yard which surrounded an old oak that had lost a huge limb. We needed the tree taken down as it was hollow. Tre, (who was the foreman for our job) and his crew did an amazing job as well as we're meticulous about the new landscaped area. We were just in awe of how Tre's team could drop huge limbs from a tree without injury to the surrounding lawn. Our neighbors even commented on how clean the lawn looked! They took 6 pine trees down for us and ground them down to a point that unless you knew there were trees there, you would not know anything was removed. Also, we had a very small magnolia tree next to one of the pines and they expertly were able to keep it. We also had a beach gum tree nestled next to a cedar. Hoping we could keep the cedar and cut and grind out the beach gum, Jon (the owner) was able to do that And also grind the stump nicely down. We will definitely come back to this company for our future tree service needs!
