This place was a very welcome oasis of good, healthy food for a traveler sick of seeing fish and chips and burgers on every menu. One of my favorite meals while traveling around New Zealand. There are lots of healthy options to choose from, and depending on the portion size that you select, you can get a good amount of them. I'm not sure if the entrees change by the day/meal, but when I was there, the options were mostly Mediterranean (chicken tagine, mint yogurt meatballs, chickpeas, and various salads). All the ingredients were incredibly fresh and had wonderful flavors. I love the concept of slower and healthier foods being served in accessible and easy way, and Big Fig is a great example of that. With a well designed cafe-meets-eatery atmosphere, quality coffees, an excellent selection of wines and beers, and fresh flavorful meals, all at an affordable price with no wait time (soup $10, small plate $10, medium plate $18, and large plate $25) this is by far one of the best places I've eaten at in quite a long time!!
