We hired Big Hands Brown to install a new garage door for us 2 years ago. We paid them upfront for everything and they did a terrible job installing. The door was so loud and squeaky, but I thought it might get better as it got used to the track, but it never did. I called them a year later and asked them to come check it because it continued to get worse. I assumed since they installed it so recently it would be a free check, and it wasn't. They charged me and just put some lube on it. Of course that did not fix anything and again just continued to get louder and louder to the point it would wake up my toddler and newborn. I called them again to come look at it and when I talked to the receptionist I told her I would not be paying for it this time because we already paid for them to fix it and they didn't. The owner of this business came out to look at it and did fix the loud noise. He replaced several pieces and told me he wouldn't charge me for some of them, but that my cost for the day would be $200. I told him I had talked to the receptionist about it being a complimentary appointment and he said he wouldn't do anything for free. I asked him why he had to replace pieces if he installed new ones to begin with? He couldn't answer any questions and said he wouldn't leave until he got paid. He said if something was wrong I should've called him earlier! I told him I had called and someone had come out before and didn't resolve the problem. I finally went to go get my CC to pay him because he wasn't leaving and he asked if I could pay him with cash/check or Venmo instead. I told him I couldn't find his business on Venmo and he said ya just Venmo my wife Diana Gonzalez. Super unprofessional and very poor customer service. If you want something done right the first time, or second, or even third time..don't contact this business. read more

This morning I could not open my garage doors. I had previously used Big Hands Brown for my garage doors, so I texted Colin (owner) and he arranged an appointment for this afternoon. His team members Steven and Nicholas arrived, diagnosed the issue within seconds and fixed the issue within minutes. They also went over and above by giving me another remote that they had in their truck and programed it for me. They also greased and checked my other garage door. Great service, promptness and value. They don't overcharge. read more

Overview: Hired Big Hands Brown Construction for a large house remodel and garage door replacement. 2 stars for poor *accountability*, communication, punctuality, guarantee on work, and timeline. Mostly quality work completed yet with higher costs and longer timeline. This company left me on a bad note after causing a lighting and electrical issue in my home and neglected to fix it for 3 weeks, which in turn cost me $1000+ to hire a third party electrician bill which Big Hands Brown Construction has declined and refused to pay. Overall, I would NOT RECOMMEND working with this company. Accountability: VERY poor accountability. Left the project unfinished with the electrical not working in the kitchen, dining room, and first bedroom. I had to be the one to mention the issue and they pretended to not know what I was talking about. This issue was caused by the subcontractors doing final wiring connections. The problem continued to be unresolved for weeks, with action being taken. After 3 weeks, I have a tenant moving into the property (still no working lights/electrical), therefore I chose to hire a local electrical contractor to come diagnose and fix the issue. They spent 2 visits and 8 hours resolving the issue which cost $1000+. See quality and guarantee of work for additional accountability issues. Communication: Mediocre communication. Collin had the best communication at the very beginning. Overall, it has been choppy communication between the owner, the "office lady", and the "foreman" main subcontractor on the job. They said they would provide liability, insurance, and license information and the beginning of the project and never did. Of course they were the most forward and would often have the best communication when asking for additional payment. Over the course of the project, direct questions via message and in person (especially about timeline) were evaded and avoided. Punctuality: Poor punctuality, even from the beginning. Collin was repeatedly very late or was a no show on times or days he agreed to meet up or show up to the property. No workers showed up some weeks or were there for only a couple hours, even when I was guaranteed to be the "priority" job. Quality and Guarantee of Work: Mostly good quality, with nice finishes and pleasing results. No guarantee of work seems to have been provided. The whole interior of the house was re-textured and painted, yet was left with noticeable paint patches with mismatched sheen. Trim/caulk is already peeling from wall (within 1 month), construction debris left on property (old toilets, cabinet). Timeline: Poor timeline. Unclear and dodgy from the beginning about a timeline. The project slated for 1-2 months starting in late February and took until June/July (with granted some additional work being done, however not 3+ additional months worth). I ordered most of the new material hardware, fixtures, and finishes, yet they sat in boxes in a closet accumulating dust for months until they finally got around to them. Subcontractor Quality: Great quality with friendly and skilled workers. Was a very small team of two the majority of the time which seemed to hold back the momentum of the project. After spending months working with Big Hands Brown Construction, I would NOT recommend working with them. If you do, it might be possible for smaller, more manageable projects where the accountability and timeline is crystal clear. AND do not pay the rest of the invoice (regardless of their pressure campaigns) until it is absolutely 100% done and to your satisfaction. read more

Strongly advise against using Big Hands Brown and Unique Garage Doors. Terrible communication, weeks late on delivering without notifying me of a change of timing. The quality of the install is awful. They had to come back 5-6 times after they "completed" the install of my new garage doors. The doors were damaged, there are cracks on the back side, dents on the front. I ordered black garage doors, Collin ordered white doors (the cheaper option for him) and then painted the doors black, but he was unaware of the fact that he voided the manufacturers warranty as soon as he did that. He claims to offer a 5 year warranty, but has nothing to show for it in writing. I repeatedly asked for a copy of this and he never delivered. The doors are so poorly painted, with globs of paint and the dents visible from the street. They got paint on my garage floors and on my stucco, which I had to point out and demand they repair (they never addressed the paint on the floor). One of the door tracks was not properly installed, to where the whole weight of the track was no supported with a bolt into a truss. Collin felt that he was doing me many favors by continually coming back, saying he typically charges for these follow up trips, but they kept coming back due to their own errors and damages to the doors. Ultimately, worked out a deal where I did not have to pay the final 50%, and would accept the doors as complete. He may offer a quote that is less than other companies, but it is not worth it. The terrible communication and awful install job is not worth it. Pay a little more and find a bigger, more reputable company in the area. read more
