This is a great place to stay in an RV while traveling through Alaska. The bathrooms and showers…read moreare clean and the campsite is well maintained. The camp host is very friendly. The creek is viewable from your campsite. Please DO NOT rent a pontoon boat unless you are an extremely competent rower and or have a guide with you. Me and my three buddies rented a four person pontoon boat and nearly drowned as we encountered a "sweeper" (tree that has fallen and is just above the water surface, making going over it in the boat impossible. (Google "drowning in Alaska by sweeper or strainer trees"). Our boat wedged up against the tree and the current was strong and wanted to capsize our boat but did not and ultimately, after what seemed like several frantic minutes where one of us was pinned on our back and having his face smashed by a stout branch, and another was in the water and having his waders fill up with water and having to struggle to stay above the surface of the water by holding onto tree branches with all his might, we were pushed under the tree and branches with some scrapes and broken fly rods. Three of the four of us believed we were going to drown. If you want to fish this creek, just do so from the bank.

But darn it, Wasilla seems like a nice place and the Wasilla Train Depot was quaint and picturesque. It seemed a lot more modern than some of the other one-horse town depots that are little more than quickie whistle-stops. According to the Alaska Railroad website, "the historic depot in Wasilla is where the train stops to pick up passengers, however it is not staffed by the Alaska Railroad. The building is leased to the Wasilla Chamber of Commerce, and is often closed and locked at train arrival/departure times." Passengers who are boarding at Wasilla park their vehicles in the designated gravel area at least 10 feet from the tracks. Passengers board on the same side of the tracks as the depot building. The area is not sheltered from the elements, so be warned. When the train arrives, have your ID handy for the Conductor or the onboard supervisor, and they will give you a boarding pass which will have your seat assignment. Since the train stops in the middle of Wasilla, be prepared to hustle since street traffic stops on the road in both directions to accommodate boarding and departing. Immediately after leaving Wasilla heading north, be prepared to see some absolutely spectacular scenery, Sara Palin excluded.

They didn't just guide us - they educated us, patiently answering every single one of my (many!) questions with enthusiasm and depth. You can tell they truly love sharing this world with others. What stood out just as much as the scenery was the care and devotion shown to the dogs. Every single Alaskan Husky is clearly loved, respected, and exceptionally well cared for. It's obvious the entire team is deeply invested in the health, happiness, and wellbeing of these amazing animals, which made the experience feel even more special and authentic. And then there's the ride itself - absolutely breathtaking. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and the trail felt like something out of a dream. We glided through endless stretches of pristine white snow, surrounded by pines trees, with the crisp Alaskan air filling our lungs. The dogs were great and the trail was scenic, but my interaction with owner Matthew Failor detracted from the experience. At check-in, the waiver asked for my full address. When I hesitated and asked why, his response was essentially that I needed to fill it out or I wouldn't be allowed to go out on the sled. Only afterward did he vaguely mention insurance. Being given that kind of ultimatum in front of other guests felt coercive rather than respectful. After the run, he asked if I had fun and stayed warm. I answered simply and briefly. He then commented that I was "a woman of very few words," which came across as dismissive. He then asked where I live, despite my earlier hesitation about sharing personal information. As a woman traveling alone who had already shown discomfort about privacy, that felt intrusive and tone-deaf. The actual sled run was also noticeably shorter than expected, which made the overall experience feel less worth the cost. Liz later called, listened to my concerns, and processed a refund, which I appreciated. I'm sharing this so other women traveling alone can make an informed decision. While the dogs and trail were enjoyable, my interaction with Matthew made the overall experience uncomfortable and not worth repeating.

We started with the UTV trail ride, which was an absolute blast. The course took us through water crossings and a variety of on and off trail terrain, making for an exciting and unforgettable ride. Then we experienced the sled dogs, which was equally amazing. We got to meet the dogs, learn about the sport, and see their enthusiasm and team work in action! The staff were outstanding from start to finish. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience fun, safe, and memorable for our whole family.
