We needed a ride from JBER to the Airport. I called 222-2222 and a friendly lady dispatcher answered, I told her we have 4 passengers and 5 large bags with carry ons. She said a van would accommodate the group which it did. We waited for 10 minutes and the driver was nice enough to call to say that he was running a little late and that he would be there in 20 minutes. The driver was quiet but really courteous and assisted us with our bags. Not sure about the negative reviews but our experience with this company was pleasant. By the way...we only paid $30.25 versus $69 I was quoted by shuttleman. Would I recommend their services? SHO NUFF! read more

I called again, and the same guy that assured me I would get the minivan answered, and this time he said the hotel we were at was a flagship location. WARNING with this Taxi company! Some of the drivers are scammers (#217 was the loser I had), and you need to be very careful. This past weekend I shared a cab from Hotel Captain Cook to the airport with 2 other friends. When we arrived, the meter read $20. My friends stepped out of the car and handed the driver a $20 bill. He put it in his pocket. I was still in the car, digging a $10 out of my wallet to hand to my friends. The driver then yelled at me and said I owed HIM another $20 when I reached to split the charge. I said I'd never heard of charging by the number of passengers...it's by the ride...it's according to the meter! He argued with me, and refused to let me out of the car and retrieve my luggage from the trunk. He said he was going to drive me to the next door (which was like 30 feet away), and I had to pay what was on the meter. I continued to argue with him, and he said "the company" makes him do this. Well, obviously I needed to get my suitcase and get out of this cab, so I gave the thief another $20, and he officially closed me out on his meter as "1 passenger," when there were 3 of us in the car, after pocketing the other $20 he'd scammed. $40 for a $20 ride, and refusal to release me and my belongings from the vehicle. If I wouldn't have had the money on me, this would have been a more scary situation to be honest. I reported it to AK Yellow Cab after I checked in at the airport, and obviously never got a call back with a resolution, or at least a confirmation they'd received my complaint. Also, they are not reliable. I had to call 3x for dispatch, and it took over 40 minutes for the driver to arrive. Gave us some excuse that they were in the middle of shift change; Funny that the dispatcher didn't mention that. In any case, seriously, use Uber if you can while in Anchorage. This company is not reliable, has some shady drivers, and is arguably unsafe. I don't like writing reviews like this, but this is the first time this has happened to me with a taxi driver in the US. read more

Have a flight to catch? Call an Uber or drive yourself. Once a reliable service we used for 5 years is now a non-existent service. Used the app with a 3-hour notification for pickup, on 4 separate occasions, over a 2-year period for business travel. Time came and went. Called and got "checking on the cab". Cab accepted and then cancelled. Called and once again got "checking on the cab". Called Uber, and 5 minutes later had a ride. Use of this company has resulted in last minute arrivals for flight departures, driving to the airport in a personal vehicle, parking fees, etc. This company continues to fail to provide advertised services, failure to follow up with status of cab arrival times and leaves you wondering where your cab is, until there is no choice but to drive yourself. We called when they were ten minutes late (told us they would be there soon...about 2 hours to flight), we called back when they were 30 minutes late (told us they are 10 mins away...1 hour, 45 mins to flight), and then we called 15 minutes later to ask for 2 car cabs (said they were on their way...1 hour, 30 mins to flight!). I called 2 different times and was told a driver was on their way to pick up my family of 5 at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and drive us back to Girdwood. I attempted to get a cab from Fort Richardson to my hotel on the Elmendorf side (both on post) on Friday. The first call was at 11:28 am and at 1:00 pm I did not even get a cab. I called a total of six times to follow up, and get consistent falsified reassurances that it will be there in ten/ fifteen minutes (which did not happen). I eventually got upset and walked (about a five mile distance) that took me about what I wasted waiting on the cab. I understand it is a challenge to get a cab on post. I know there are potential delays getting on and with construction on the roads. However my suggestion to fix this is have more cabs available to come on post and try to stick with your word being your bond (I know it is a rare thing nowadays). If there will be issues BE HONEST. I will appreciate it more in the long run. read more

I've lived in Anchorage since 1985, and have ridden with 100s of different Drivers. I've had some terrible drivers who were rude, dismissive, & drove very stinky cabs. I've also had the privilege of riding with some exceptional drivers who took care of their cabs & their appearance. In addition, they were personable, helpful, courteous, and took the time to open the car door AND help me carry my packages up the 21 steps to my door. Kudos to them! I have finally met the most exceptional driver to date. Her name is ANGELA, and she embodies the caring, courteous & fun spirit I wish ALL Yellow Cab Drivers carried. Her first priority is Safety Always, and the second is to ensure her riders enjoy being her passenger. She is truly an asset & a Blessing to your company. Most of my beef with this cab company comes from the fact they won't reliably take a group of six. They run a fleet a minivans that seat six but you can never tell if the van operator that pulls up will actually take a group of six or not. I have a family of six and I often had to take two cabs when one would suffice. Cab operators otherwise were great - occasionally got one that smelled of smoke pretty bad. I wonder how I could have had such a radically different experience than all of these one-star reviewers. I'm from Chicago and accustomed to catching a cab on the street at a moment's notice. But out of all the small cities to which I've ever travelled where I had to telephone for a cab, Alaska Yellow Cab was by far the most efficient. We used them three times on the same day, and on each occasion they showed up within five minutes or less. The cabbies were all friendly and knew exactly where we wanted to go. In one instance, the dispatcher even knew exactly where we were calling from (a cafe well outside of downtown) just based on the address. My only complaint is that the dispatcher would not let me order a cab for "ten minutes from now." She said to call back when we were ready and the cab would be there "almost instantaneously." I was skeptical, but followed her instructions...and she was right. Seriously, unless they agree to drive you somewhere for free, it doesn't get any better than this. read more

The dispatchers were great: pleasant and helpful, confirming the location and arrival time of the driver. I made a reservation the night before and told them we had a lot of luggage and needed a van to get to the airport, and they made sure to get one there on time. But, the driver was the second worst I've ever had (the worst pulled a gun on me half-way through the trip and demanded a fare increase). The driver was angry when he arrived and said he needed me to hurry up. I thought that was weird, but I had a plane to catch and didn't want to risk trying to hail a new cab. I asked him to put the seat down so I could fit all my luggage but he got furious and demanded to first see all the luggage. He refused to help me move it. Once I moved all my luggage to the curb, he threatened to drive away, and I convinced him it would fit, and he sat there and watched while I loaded all my own luggage. He insisted the front seat remain completely empty, so we had to squish into the back with no seatbelts. I wish I had written the driver's name down, but it doesn't matter because a taxi company like Alaska Yellow that doesn't screen their drivers means you're playing Russian roulette with every ride. read more

Idk what other ppl experienced for such a low rating, but mine was stellar. I took a total of 4 cab rides during a business trip to anchorage. The Hilton doesn't have an airport shuttle.. go figure. Its roughly a $20 ride to n from the airport and its def cheaper to cab it than rent a car for $100 a day. The cab drivers are friendly and knowledgable about where to eat. We were in Alaska on a group land tour returning via train to the Westmark. We needed to secure our own transportation via this cab company. It was a prepaid booking. I called from the train letting them know we had 15 people and wanted to make sure we had enough vehicles. I gave the company the exact information I was given by our travel agency, GrayLine. Now the info was minimal and that is the daily of Grayline. But no matter what info I gave the dispatcher he accused me of being condescending. What he heard in my voice was incredulity in the entire situation. He eventually told me I didn't have any information that could help him help me and he hung up on me. If I could give them a negative star I would give him 100 negative stars. The driver tonight verbally assaulted me and because it was not a physical assault the police did not come. I complimented him on his driving and he verbally assaulted me by telling me to be quiet to not talk with attitude and to call Uber if I need an Uber and never call yellow cab. I've never felt so unsafe I felt like if he had a chance to he would physically hurt me. His words were so negative and I kept telling him that I was not being negative and all he wanted to do was argue with me. Clearly I was in the right because he left when I had the police called. However Anchorage police don't respond to verbal assaults which I understand because a verbal assault in their eyes is not as negative as a physical assault. Yellow Cab had never been a great experience, but now I am definitely never using them again. The other day I decided to take a cab out to meet some friends, and was excited to see that Yellow Cab had an app I could try. I figured it'd cut down on the awkwardness since I'd be avoiding the (always unpleasant) phone conversations with the dispatchers. Boy, was I wrong. I scheduled the cab for a certain time on the app, and since my building is weird to find, I posted specific instructions in the "notes to driver" to pick me up on the street next to my apartment. But the driver shows up almost 10 minutes early, and I miss the call because I'm still getting ready. When I see the missed call I figure he's there, and head out. I don't see him on the street though, and then I get another call from him. I ask where he is, and he insists he's in my driveway. He isn't, and I gently point out this is why I asked him to pick me up on a different street, because google won't take you to the right place. He begins angrily declaring that this is my fault for not picking up the phone the first time (10 mins before my scheduled pickup) and says that he's been repeatedly driving around the block with no idea where to go (despite my note saying exactly where to go). Arguably I should have just bailed at this point but I didn't want to be late to meet my friends so I walk around the block until I find him, at which point he insists I sit in the front seat next to him. The next 15 minutes en route to my destination are the most awkward of my life as he continues to harass me for not answering the first time, for "making him drive around", and for using the app at all, which according to this EMPLOYEE OF YELLOW CAB is "awful" and "barely works". Naturally, when we show up at my destination I decide not to tip (fear for my life was not enough of a motivator this time) and when he sees this he angrily throws my receipt while I get out of that cab as fast as I can. In summation, don't use the app, don't use yellow cab, just make sober friends who drive and pray hard for Alaskan Uber. read more

Dispatch is very poor too, there are more than a few times I have called for a cab and had to wait and call back several times over the course of a few hours to get one to show up. My husband and I flew into anchorage airport. We walked up to a yellow cab. The driver opened his rink. We put our bags in and told him where we were going. Puffin ( a 10 dollar fare) He immediately took the bag out and said take the shuttle it's cheaper. We said we don't want to wait for shuttle we just want a ride he said no. We then went to the next taxi. He also said no. We then went to the third taxi and he starting honking at the driver in front of him yelling you drive them. The guy got him very hostile to us and told us now he had to wait for over a hour to be in front of the line. Continued complaint to us. When we got there we said thank you and he ignored us and sped off. His name is Kashim Tajie Garo. License number 9152 I have never seen a more angry and rude taxi driver ever. Our cab driver was late to pick us up because he couldn't find the house. He called us for directions, which we gave him but despite our guidance he seemed to struggle to find the house. It's not that complicated, 2 turns off a main road. We aren't even from the area and we had no problem finding the house based on the same directions. He kept missing the turn even when we told him exactly where it was. I don't understand how you function as a cab driver without being able to navigate the city you work in. Once the cab driver arrived he was very nice and WAS able to get us to the airport but it's stressful having your driver show up late when you are trying to catch a flight. read more

I really wish there was another option. I nearly got stranded one night at the Airport because none of their drivers would take me to the Marriott Courtyard; it apparently wasn't far enough for them. I called the dispatch to ask why the cabs won't take me to the courtyard to which he replied "I'll dispatch another cab", and hung up. um, there's 20 cabs here but they keep asking me to get back out of their cabs! (I'm a mid 30's engineer here on business, no it wasn't a hygiene thing). I immediately called back, exact same reply. Better than driving drunk, but barely. I cab frequently and can say that it is a rare occurrence to get even a decent cab driver. Most are rude, unprofessional, and entitled. You have to give them step by step directions to even common places in anchorage. In no other state do cab drivers expect you to feed them directions, do they not have Gps? You spend the ride listening to these guys whine and complain about their nights to you and complain about other drivers on the road. You sit there quietly hoping they don't snap. They whine and complain if you pay with card instead of cash. One driver even argued and made us to go to the ATM to get him cash because the card was "inconvenient" for him. One guy came to pick us up in eagle river and complained the whole way that he had to be out in eagle river losing money on us and wasting his time. Unbelievably unprofessional and rude. Not the customers problem. They drive like bats out of hell. I am always very surprised to end up at the destination alive. One guy went flying down a backroad at night and I had to yell that he was flying straight toward a sharp turn. It was terrifying. Completely reckless. One time, after spelling out my house address 4 times and giving cross streets (in midtown anchorage), the cab driver insisted he didn't see that street anywhere on his "map." I've been picked up from that house dozens of times before with no issues. Totally fed up with this incompetent, unprofessional company, definitely not using them anymore. read more

I'm not sure why this company has such low ratings? I agree the girl on the phone is super rushed and doesn't tell you how long the ride will be. But if you call back more than once when you give them your address they greet you by name. So far I have had one rude cabbie- and even then he just talked on his phone the whole time. The rest have been really polite and nice. The rates from what I have seen are way cheaper and so far the drivers have all gotten me where I needed to be on time. They could improve by telling you how long your cab will take, but I like this company and their price so I keep using them. read more

This place is awful. I work for a medical practice and we have a diabetic patient with a huge wound in his foot, out of work because of COVID and needing a travel voucher. He stormed in to the office and told me I incorrectly filled out the form, demanded I call his insurance company NOW. and then when he had waited long enough he went back outside and kicked this patient out of his cab, IN 20 DEGREE WEATHER, and tried forcing him to pay 10$ for wasting his time. The Sheraton staff person ordered us (party of 6) two cabs for 7:15. 7:15 came and went, no taxis. Sheraton called the taxi company and learned dispatch had cancelled the taxis because "the area had been flagged." They would not explain what that actually meant. The Sheraton staff member said, "Tell me when the taxis will be here for my guests, or if we need to take our business elsewhere." Eventually, at 7:30, only one taxi showed up. We had to go in two trips. The reason this is two stars instead of one star is the driver was a really great guy. read more

The cab driver insisted that his meter was broken and then when we pulled up to the house he asked me for $48 dollars....Uber or Lyft is normally around $15. I immediately called the cab number who told me this individual should not even be driving and that's why they had turned off his meter. Also, the driver was wearing no face covering in the car. I ended up paying over the phone but the cab driver continued to insist that I pay him too. Very unprofessional. It's hard because I use this business for my patient's at work and the dispatcher's have always been easy to work with so it was a little disappointing to be on the other end of things.
