I don't like posting bad reviews but my experience calls for one. I've been here numerous times and never had an issue until this weekend. I ordered a fondue with my friend. However, there was a piece of hair and I calmly took it back. We had barely eaten any of it, so I expected either a refund or a new plate. Instead, the worker took a plastic glove, swiped off half of the food, and expected me to take it back and continued eating. I was horrified and shocked. Having worked in a family restaurant, I know it's common sense to replace defected food, and yet I had to prod for a refund. They were very clearly upset, the lady shoving the money into my hand. They did not give me the full amount I paid for, but I let it go. I don't recommend. Highly disappointed and won't be returning for a long time. read more

Food and drinks are great! Beautiful atmosphere! Owner is very nice! My only complaint: morning shift staff. I visit big oak weekly in the mornings for coffee. There is an older woman who works here with glasses and dark hair (unsure of her name). She is NEVER pleasant. She does not say good morning, does not say hello, does not say thank you, does not say you're welcome, and does not smile. She is rude and it makes me feel uncomfortable when I as the customer have to say hello. Today when I was here I said thank you and she did not say anything back to me. No "you're welcome" no "have a nice day" and no smile. I have had this occurrence with her often. I will still visit big oak and be a regular customer, however I hope that the manager or owner will read this and maybe have this employee do prepping or something else that does not involve customer interaction. read more

I needed somewhere to use the internet and grab coffee while on a business trip, and I prefer the local chains and not the burnt coffee of Starbucks, so I ended up stopping in. I got their benedict sandwich and a large chai, and I was amazed when the bill was under $8. They were very reasonably priced. The sandwich came out and was really good and definitely hit the spot. I also really loved the chai, and ended up ordering a second. I really wish I had a coffee shop like this near me. read more

This place is amazing! We stopped here on a whim during a road trip. Everything is super fresh, and the price absolutely cannot be beat. One of the best Cafe's in the town of Chambersburg in my opinion. This place is normally packed around lunch time so expect a bit of a wait but it sure is worth it based on the food quality as everything is fresh. They have amazing Chai Tea as well! read more

I know a lot of you are going to say that I'm not doing them justice.... But here's the reason that I'm giving them a 2 (for this visit...normally they would be a 4 or 5. I went in they tonight to get a meal and was promptly waited on.... then it when downhill... I paid for my sandwich (small Satisfaction....Meatloaf, Farmers Cheese, Lettuce, Mild Peppers, Spicy Tomato Preserves on White Bread) I asked for wheat bread and and a mango citrus cooler I asked that my order be "for here". I sat down and a few moments later the person that waited on me came to my table and informed me that "they were out of meatloaf"....So I had to decide on another sandwich...I decided on the Stacker ...Roasted Turkey Breast, Baked Ham, Bacon, American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, Brown Mustard on White Bread. I was brought the sandwich (with Wheat bread..which was fine it what I wanted on my original order. My meal was brought to me in the "to go" container and I had to ask for my drink to be made. I then had to wait for my mango citrus cooler too be made. The food was good and the service was ok I guess I just was not impressed as to what I have seen from them before. read more

Great sandwiches! We stopped here driving down 81, the food was great and the service quick and friendly. Not to knock Panera, but comparing our meals for the day, Big Oak had better ingredients and more sides and for a better price. Not many vegetarian options but since you can build your own sandwich i just swapped out a few ingredients based on their creative pairings. My only suggestion would be for them to have silverware rather than individually wrapped plastic ones to reduce waste. read more

Quaint little local joint right next To the "butcher shop." Very friendly staff and they have a selection of mugs you can use. I love that! I only had a coffee but they serve up some delicious sounding food too. The space is large and inviting and even has a fireplace and tv in the back room. It looked like a great lunch joint or meet up for locals. Glad I got a taste of Chambersburg here! read more

So-so. Coffee will not knock your socks off or make you thirst with desire... A sandwich and chips that offer nothing more special than you can whip up in your kitchen. The interior is very nice along with patio seating. WiFi is a big plus. read more

Just had the harvest breakfast sandwich, oh my gosh so good. Bacon, cheddar cheese, egg and a honey walnut spread to go on it!! Just the right salty sweet bite to get the day started. I'm also drinking a hot chai tea latte and it's beautiful. The presentation and the taste. I got to pick my own mug on the wall and I think that is so cute. Love this place. A modern cafe with great baked goods and service in a very unlikely place. The atmosphere is nice and the price is also right.

Good place for a quick bite. Nice variety of sandwiches you wouldn't think to make at home. Their orange-aide drink is excellent. I've never tried the coffee or desserts. Had a few sandwiches and salads over the years. Just a tip though - they get slammed in the afternoons around 2-3pm by students leaving the middle school nearby. So be prepared for that if you want a nice, quiet place to relax. It gets loud and busy, lol. read more

Prices are great here. Sandwiches are usually very good but a couple have been average. The sandwich with Brie and apples is great, but the Meadow wrap was mediocre. I came here every Monday with my friends when I was in school. The atmosphere is great and the food is delicious. What blew me away was the wide selection offered by this relatively small cafe. Their food ranges from baked goods, milkshakes, and sandwiches to just name a few items. They make really good milkshakes and offer a wide selection of flavors. This place is amazing. The food taste great with plenty of options. I also appreciate how friendly and helpful the workers are.

Our first time here and anxious to try it out. Walked in one hour prior to closing and 3 people were behind the counter with their backs to us. We were the only customers and there were three employees with their backs to us. No one greeted us and they all actually ignore us long enough that I thought maybe they were closed. Finally someone turned around slowly - still no hello and we placed order for one coffee and one Cappuccino. Three of the pots of coffee were lukewarm st best and when I ask for hot coffee, they just glared at me. No apology!?! My cappuccino tasted like foam and obviously had no espresso in it at all! We were shocked by our experience and won't ever be back. :(This is not a coffee shop! A sandwhich shop maybe but definitely not a coffee shop!! read more

The coffee is okay, just large batch basic brew. I have found it hard to get seating and it can be very distracting with lots of noise. When I asked questions about the menu the staff was not helpful and was more focused on keeping the line moving. I like the butcher shoppe but the big oak has room to grow. read more

My new go-to place for coffee. I love that they offer dairy alternative creamers, Not many places carry almond milk! I love their breakfast bold & every now and then I'll get the flavored coffees they offer daily -all so far, very fresh & smooth! Not to mention, the décor inside is lovely.
