I can shop at many different places in Santa Fe or Albuquerque. What keeps me coming back to any store is GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Big R is a perfect example of this. I went into the Santa Anna Big R (near Bernallio) to buy a special dog food. The Wholesome foods sensitive stomach is the best food for my Great Dane & German Shepard. Only one the Shepard can keep down. I was truly excited to see Big R carries it & it was on sale, at a great price. I went into store as they opened hopefully to buy the dog food only to find they didn't have it. Here is where the Santa Fe BIG R stepped up to make our day. I spoke with manager "Nathan" who told me he had 5 bags & would transfer them to the store near me in Bernallio. He could have them there this afternoon for me to pickup tomorrow morning. Saving me a trip to Santa Fe, stocking me up for weeks to come, & allowing me to get the bags at the sale price. Nathan's customer service is the reason I will continue to shop Big R. read more

Update: BIG R DIDN'T EVEN FIX IT. THE SAW STILL WONT IDLE. ALL THE MESS BELOW AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN DO THEIR JOBS. I had never even heard of Big R before this mess. And my experience with them explains why. So I bought a brand new Husqvarna chainsaw (I received awful service from Husqvarna too and would not recommend their products. If something goes wrong they'll leave you high and dry and stuck dealing with a place like Big R) from Lowe's and it did not run correctly. Lowe's wouldn't take it back because it had been more than 48 hours so I was stuck. So I reached out to Husqvarna and their "customer service" sent me to the local service center, which is big R. So I took the chainsaw to Big R and explained to the cashier what the issue was. Things seem to be going fine, but then he said there would be a service fee. Obviously, I did not feel that was right as this was a brand new chainsaw and if anybody should be paying anything to fix it, it should be Husqvarna. So he called this manager over. This is basically where the whole problem started. From the get-go this manager, Michelle made it very clear she had zero interest in helping or moving the problem forward. All she offered was to make sure I was aware I was gonna be responsible for paying this. She never said anything like "this is what you need to do". It was just "you didn't buy this here so it's not our problem" . So I left thinking I'd take it somewhere else. I reached back out to Husqvarna and they said just take it back and Big R will submit it as a warranty repair. Wondering why Michelle had said NOTHING about this I brought the chainsaw back that same afternoon. I dealt with the exact same cashier who knew exactly what was going on. And I left the chainsaw to be repaired. Fast-forward like six weeks later. (Because they don't even do the repairs in Santa Fe. They had to send my chainsaw to Colorado.) I get a call that it's ready and I immediately ask is there a $ balance. sure enough they're trying to charge me about $60. So I told him no I'm not paying that and I hung up the phone. I continued receiving calls from various people and I ended up hanging up on all of them. I'll give them credit for continuing to escalate up the chain but I never asked for that. They could have thrown the saw in the trash for all I cared. But every person i spoke with wanted me to jump through hoops instead of just reaching out to Husqvarna to get paid. Pretty sad these people are so stupid or lazy they can't make this simple connection. Finally I get a voicemail from some regional manager and he waived the fee but also made it a point to tell me my business was no longer welcome. Gee! Ya think?! This is such petty Gen Z "you were mean to us" behavior. Yeah don't look at your manager Michelle's massive failure here. Blame the customer. Trust me Big R, you didn't get any money from me and you never will. read more

This Big R is an interesting place to be sure. It has a super dystopian vibe to it. The store was large, well staffed and hospital operating room bright. Everything was there but the inventory of a successful store. They did have some deals on clothes, but mostly it seemed like a lot empty shelves and most of the hardware was off brand stuff I never heard of, marked up to premium prices. It was as if Cabela's and Harbor Freight went on a date, got tipsy on box wine and woke up in the morning with this love child to deal with. A bit of dna from both parents but none of it from the deep end of the pool. Speaking of which, mom and dad must be ashamed of their child, as just getting in to The Big R was difficult. The parking lot entrance wasn't directly in front of the store, and at night it was difficult to navigate the parking lot. Also I get that Santa Fe has serious restrictions on lighting at night, but the parking lot just screamed "Please stand by, your mugger will be with you shortly." No wonder the place was deserted. read more

Is it just me or do you fell like once you enter this store it's hostile environment. And not just one or 2 of the employees at night are all racist. And I hate to say this but that native manger he acts like he's the the chief of the store. So it's been almost 3 weeks that I purchased sum pants I went with my receipt and one pair said it wasn't on my receipt so I said let me check I find them the upcoming number match the size the brand everything matches but nope supervisor calls Chief over to see what he does and he clearly sees himself that the jeans are indeed on my receipt but I guess he was on his high horse that night and smells the pants and says nope we can't take these pants cause they don't have the new smell on them! Excuse me since when do you have to have the new smell on something you have purchased? Especially going on three weeks they have sat in a bag in my living room. And I've tried to go take them since and it's always something with them. When there am on my guard cause I literally feel like am going to be attacked by one of these employees. read more

Whoa! I didn't know what to expect here! Sporting goods, firearm safes, salt licks for cows, outdoor furniture, clothing. Definitely one of those places that are geared for the outdoorsy person. There a whole lot of stuff here, and if you're looking for a present or gift for someone, you'll find something. I came here during Black Friday, to walk off the excess Thanksgiving food I had the day before, and one of the people in my group found a cat tree for 20 bucks, (vs a cat tree at another pet store that was already half off, but 40 bucks). Waiting in line for 5+ minutes for a very slow and very rude cashier. I purchased chemicals and naturally wanted to put them in a bag, I assumed she was going ask me how many I needed and hand them to me after checkout like she did the previous 2 customers. Well I was wrong, and not wanting to try and juggle several bottles while holding my 4 year old sons hand in the parking lot I asked for a bag. She said it was going to be 10 cents rolled eyes then said that I could not use any of the 60 cents that a previous customer left behind on the counter. So yes, I had to run my credit card for 10 cents, gotta love how silly big r has become read more

Big R Santa Fe is a great store. Sure, it's not a Lowes or Dillards but a good ranch store. I grew up in era of classic ranch supply such as Amarillo Hardware and Albu Supply. Also know Big R from many years in Idaho. Good to see a store that has all the 'basic stuff' for those of us who just need basics. Sporting goods dept is great for a compact area that's not a "sports warehouse." Also found staff to be great. Will certainly go back to Big R. Austin read more

I think the Big R in Santa Fe is great. They have cowboy fashion for the wife, tools, guns, ammo for me, pet food for the pup and hay for the horse. The employees are always helpful and friendly, never pushy. They welcome my dog [maybe because she cleans up any spilled dog food on the floor] and give her treats at the counter. Just a fun, friendly store that's perfect for traditional New Mexicans. Some of the " avocado toast " transplants might enjoy it as well. Give it a try! read more

We like the fact that Big R in Santa Fe has proximity to the SE corridor extending toward Las Vegas. They have lots of general hardware, as well as the typical farm store goods. That's all fine. Recently we decided to buy a Stihl weed wacker from this Big R. When it comes to something specialized like that, not so good. After 5 phone calls and a visit to the store we came away empty handed. We get it that most phone receptionists don't know anything about the stock. But, the specialist we spoke with didn't say that they had to prep the weed wacker in advance. We went through an entire song-and-dance to get someone to prepare a machine and bring it out to the check-out area. At one point the phone receptionist was going to call us back when that had been done, but didn't call us, so we called her after 45 minutes. We were then told the "technician" was still out to lunch [at that point it was 3 PM]. We called again, waited interminably long for the guy to come to the phone, and we finally gave up. Next day, we bought our weed wacker from another company. We think that if we need a knowledgeable clerk, we'll not go to Big R. This isn't the fault of the employees. It is the management who doesn't provide adequate training and customer relationship skills. read more

This place probably has the best gun and gear selection in Santa Fe. The gun counter folks have been pretty knowledgeable and helpful, and the ammo prices have been fair, when they have .22lr they don't charge an arm and a leg. So far the employees store wide have all been super friendly, and my wife found a hat and three shirts here that she loves and she's picky about clothes. Overall not a bad find, I'll look for more Big R stores in my travels. read more

This store has the best firearm selection in Santa Fe, even though it's not a gun store. Prices are very fair and cheaper than Tractor Supply (for farm supplies) and The Outdoorsman (Guns). We use to love coming to this store but today we witnessed a Korean Veteran from Penasco NM come to Santa Fe and buy a generator and NOT get his well deserved military discount because it was not Monday . This is a great store! We have been working very hard at getting the appropriate staff and getting product, counts, and prices all correct. As you can imagine, opening a store this size comes with some glitches. We have started to develop a staff that loves what they do and work hard for the company!! I am very proud of what this location is becoming! We are working hard to become deeper involved with the local 4-H groups as well as working with some of the local animal shelters. Please stop by and see what we have to offer in our family/pet friendly ( sometimes even miniature pigs) store!! BTW, the gentleman with the hat was able to return the hat and was given either a $25 or $50 gift card for the trouble. If I could select ZERO STARS I would! I purchased a cowboy hat from Big R in Santa Fe, NM on Monday for my toddler; this was the only hat on the shelves in the specific size. We tried it on our toddler on Tuesday which took all of 30 seconds, it did not fit. On Wednesday we took it back to Big R to get a different size. After the sales clerk refused to exchange the hat the Assistant Manager, Hanno was called. He also refused to exchange the hat as he said I should be embarrassed for returning a hat in which the sweatband was missing stitching and was dirty. We purchased the hat this way! THEY HAD THIS HAT ON THEIR SHELVES TO BE SOLD! He told me that he would be unable to put that hat on the shelves to be sold because of the "damage", even though the hat was bought off the shelf in the same condition as it was returned. As stated before it was the only one in his size and he wore it for 30 seconds. We did not damage the hat. The assistant manager, Hanno, was extremely rude and the customer service is horrible. I do not recommend purchasing any items from this store and me nor my family will EVER again! read more

I remember when Big R opened less then 5 years ago, I was wonderful! Recently I introduced the store to a family member from out of town. The store was filthy! The bathrooms were dirty. The isles were in disarray. There were labels and trash on the floor. The kitchen area where they use to have free pop corn, appeared to be the employees lunch room. I'm very disappointed. Went to Big R in Santa Fe on Sunday afternoon. We were approached near the entrance and told that we either had to leave our purses at the register, or take them to the car in order to come in and shop! How ridiculous! Made us feel like criminals! They say the policy is across the board for all shoppers, but many many people came in with purses. Too bad for Big R. We were looking to make some large purchases. Store has a good variety of name brand items. Guns are over priced, Buds Gunshop or CDNN sports if you are looking for a gun. Stihl chainsaw prices are set and the store offers no service. Better to buy from a dealer at least you can deal on the price. Fishing supplies are over priced. Sportsman warehouse has a large selection and really good prices. Lincoln welders are expensive. Get from Tri gas at least you can wheel and deal and get some gas thrown in free with your purchase. Stay away from the store unless your money means nothing to you. read more
