I started out at Walmart for an oil change because of their prices. But, after "ringing for assistance" 3 times, nobody ever came, so I left. I then went back to my car to look up places near where I was. Big Ray's had really good reviews. So, I decided to go there, even though it wasn't really near where I was. I asked how much an oil change cost, as they didn't have prices posted. I was given quite a range. I chose a higher level oil change with better oil that will last. At $79, it is expensive, but it's supposed to last about a year, so really, it's not bad. In addition, Phillip was very friendly and helpful. And I appreciated that it only took about 15 minutes, as opposed to the 45 minutes - forever that I've waited at the dealership. read more

Big Ray's was very responsive and supportive with a tire repair issue. Got a flat tire on the Sunday before July 4th Holiday where I was riding on the spare tire. Everywhere I had checked was closed, and a place that was open said they couldn't get to repair my tire until later in the week. So would have had to wait until Tuesday. But I saw that Big Rays's showed as open. I called and the gentleman said they could repair the tire today. When I arrived - I received a courteous greeting from the outset. Not only was the tire repaired, they actually changed the tire replacing the spare tire with the original repaired tire. I went to this place a while back... They quoted me a price for a synthetic oil change but when the change was done, it was more than they quoted said they had to replace the filter... but most places include the price of the filter in their quotes. Then during the inspection they told me my steering fluid was practically empty and I had leaks that needed to be fixed right away. Well I had no signs of low steering fluid before that day so unlikely it was practically empty. And my oil and transmission leaks seem not to be a problem because I check them regularly and they are still in range of good. read more

I chose to go here over my dealership since it is much faster! The guys who work here are honest and they do not try to rake you over the coals. They check to make sure your car is safe and offer other things, but you can decline those services. It is about $50 for a synthetic oil change. I love being done with it in 10-15 minutes ! I have been here three times now with no issues and the young men who work here have been friendly and professional. read more

Thanks to the Yelp community, I landed at this place today (finally). I received an estimate from Ish via Yelp on some new tie rods for my 2010 Fusion. Price was very reasonable. I tried to get in two weeks ago, but they were backed up. Got back from vacation and came in this morning. Ish was very communicative and quick to reply to me. I showed up shortly after open and was luckily the only vehicle there. They took care of the tie rods for the quoted price and they uncovered another issue with my vehicle...a legit issue, not a "let's see how much we can get out of this guy" issue. They have access to a part supplier, so they were able to complete an oil change, the tie rods, and the other issue (transmission cooler line replacement) in one hour. Again...nobody else was there, but I was impressed. Staff was friendly and courteous. Just moved to the area recently and happy that I stumbled onto this place. I truly wish I had discovered Big Ray's long ago; I thoroughly enjoyed my oil changing (NOT quite life changing) experiences in which I found the employees skillful, professional and courteous in every aspect. After being a faithful customer of this Big Ray's for 10 years they recently changed management. Unfortunately it was right before my 10th (and free) oil change. New management would not honor the loyalty cards that were passed out. They only had two people working there and were quite slow. Over the years I had got used to the great service I had received and even though I had moved to Royal Oak I returned to Big Ray's for my auto needs. The service was the main reason I drove to Novi (from Royal Oak) to get my oil changed. Sad that they had to choose this way to transition their longtime visitors over to their new loyalty program which is $7 off per oil change. I would recommend finding another place to visit as the new Management doesn't seem to take their job seriously and is not customer focused. I've been going to this Big Ray's for years. This particular location gives you a frequent visitor card, where you get $3 off each visit and when you hit 10, you get $10 off. When I went to other locations they did not offer that so I've generally stuck with this one. I've always been really happy with their service. They do a great job and get me in and out of there really quickly so I have more time for errands on my lunch hour. I would give them more stars but I must warn you, recently they've started REALLY pushing the upsell. I know most oil change places will, but this has gotten a bit ridic. I generally will decline but I can't seem to go there without being told that my car is going to explode because I haven't flushed out the radiator, or engine, or fuel line. Or I need new wipers and an air filter. They even now have a windshield fixer that hangs out and will find chips in your windshield that he instantly fixes but then you have to go through the whole thing with your auto insurance. I went in to Big Rays Oil change on 9/26/19. The service took an hour but was friendly. Before I left, my oil light was still on and the associate told me to try holding down both brake and gas to update the system. I did so. Nothing happened. He was confused and told me to do it again. Still nothing happened. Eventually, he told me that my car was the newer models and that they automatically updated and that my car was good to go. I left and not even a half mile down the road my car stalled out on me. I freaked out. I'm not car savvy. I know nothing about anything car related. I immediately endeavors to return my car to the last place someone had messed with it. Somehow, thank god, I was able to get the car back. When I told the associate what had happened, he examined my car and stated that my oil plug was missing. He was mortified for me and, while apologizing, said he'd provide me with a replacement plug and refill my car with synthetic oil, free of charge. After he did that, I couldn't get my car to start again. The associate called his "supervisor" who then contacted the owner. The owner was out of the country. No one would give me his name or contact number. No one would give me a tow. Even with my own insurance, I was told that I had to file a claim against the businesses insurance. Without being given any information, all upfront costs are coming out of my own pocket. The owner, I was told, would not be back in town until 9/30/19 or 10/1/19. I received different stories. I am a divorced, single mother. I do not live in Pontiac but work in that city. I have to drive 30 miles each day to and from work. My ex's family lives here. Not mine. My vehicle helps my world go around and I was told to wait for one when the owner got back to see whether they are liable or not. That's five or six days without a vehicle! Hours lost from work to deal with this. AND no assurance that this will be handled appropriately, through the insurance company. I am beyond disappointed and scared right now. No way in hell would I recommend this place. read more

I've been going here for years and won't take my car anywhere else (except to the dealership, and only when absolutely necessary). Their prices are always fair, service always courteous, never a problem with their work, my kid LOVES them and wants to come along with me when I go. They know my car and my name. Probably the best experience I've ever had when getting work done on a car! We were supposed to be driving up to the UP when we heard a very concerning sound coming from one of the tires. We ended up at Big Ray's as every other auto service shop was closed because it was Sunday. Ish and Brett were extremely helpful! Unlike other places like this in our town, Big Ray's was able to replace the headlight bulbs in my SRX. The other places said they have to take the whole bumper off to replace it, which is not true. Big Ray's got it done in less than an hour. read more

This place used to do a great job about 2 years ago. They were very thorough in their work, checked for general issues, and were polite. Recently, they have been pushing up-sells like crazy, including heading into the grey-area that approaches lying. For example, I was told the following: You have a transmission pan leak, so maybe if we flush the fluid and change the internal filter it will help. You have to change your gasoline filter every year, even though the manual states it should never have to be replaced. You should rotate your tires every 1,000 miles to best prolong the life of your tires. One of your brake rotors looks slightly less-new than your other three, it's probably bad and you should get it replaced. Your transmission fluid isn't full, so you have a transmission leak. No, I had just flushed the fluid, changed the filter, and refilled with new fluid, and had not added enough new fluid back. Your power-steering fluid looks a little dirty (to his eyes), you should get that done. They also stripped my oil drain screw. read more
