The best way to keep a secret is to not tell, but as much as we'd love to have this place all to ourselves these people deserve the business. Private, secluded, quaint, and felt a bit exclusive. This not for tourists. This is for people who need to relax and peel off the stress. Trails are moderate intensity. Well kept common spaces, without any other people by design. A gem that will be hidden on purpose. Sunsets from big rock are a must!

We just left yesterday. This was our 2nd time at big rock we stayed in gobblers knob last time, the back forty this time. We loved both cabins and did not wanna leave! This place is awesome! If you want to get away unplug and unwind this is the place! It's pure surenity. We didn't see anyone the whole time except when we were leaving the owner waved and said hope you had a good stay and we have a gift shop now! So of coarse we had to check it out! After an hour of talking to him we left with some great signs and a few coffee mugs and booked our next visit! Can't wait to get back up there! Highly recommend this place is good for your soul and your love life! ; ) Xoxo See you soon M&K

Big Rock Cabins...near Jackson, Ohio and about 90 minutes south from Columbus. We found these guys by accident when looking for a place to spend the weekend. I was originally looking for a cabin in the Hocking Hills but everything was part of a larger property or community and we wanted to have a weekend alone. After Googling "private cabin southern Ohio secluded" I found their website (alright you may have to add the word romantic to the search string). The site was not much but what got me interested is that they have four cabins spread over 65 acres and none of them can be seen from the other. The cabins are small and cozy: just perfect for two people and very well laid out. They are fully packed with everything including TV, Sound System, DVD player, full DVD library and hot tub.. The decorating is almost too cute, but there are some very cool touches. Once we were in the cabin, Erin showed up and walked us through everything in about 10 minutes and made sure we knew how to work the appliances, hot tub and grill. After that he said "you won't see me or anyone else again unless you call. We will leave you alone for the weekend after all we figure that's why you're here." It was a great relaxing weekend and the place is full of good close hiking trails to explore. The place is not well known but it should be. My only negative is that the bed was upstairs in the loft and the bathroom was downstairs, and men of a certain age have to take that trip almost every night. Great place, great value. We will be back. I bet the fall will be spectacular.

We spent the weekend at the Back 40 cabin and wish we had more time to enjoy all of the extras of this wonderful venue. From the construction details (too many to note), to immediate access to nature and spectacular views, to the hot tub and outdoor push-button grill, this place is worth the cost and effort to "get there". Perfect for anniversaries, adult get-aways, and an opportunity to commune with nature. Definitely hope to go back in the near future. read more

This was an amazing getaway. I used my couple of days at Gobbler's Knob cabin where I truly enjoyed the hot tub, hiking, meditating, fire pit and relaxation! I will definitely be back. This cabin's decor was so unique. Thanks Erin! read more

We discovered this hidden gem in 2021. To give you an idea how good this place is, we have stayed 14 times in the last 3 yrs and already have the 15th scheduled in October. We even made reservations to go to Savannah GA this year on one of our Getaways but Big Rock has our heart and ended up cancelling and headed back. There is no better place for a couple to reconnect in private with beautiful scenery and the best Hostess you will EVER find. This is as good as it gets and you will not find a better experience for the value. We have stayed in a lot of cabins (I've got to where I dread motels) and there is no comparison. THE BEST!!!!!!! read more

We found this hidden gem in May of 2021 and 20 months later we are staying our 8th time. That speaks VOLUMES as to what kind of experience this is. We travel A LOT and have stayed in tree houses, cabins galore and I have no desire to go anywhere but Big Rock Cabins any longer. It's like finding your favorite item on a menu at a restaurant and you just can bring yourself to order anything else. Erin is the best host you will ever find and he has put his heart and soul into each cabin and it shows. If your man is handy around the house and and has an engineering mindset he will be beyond impressed with Erins ingenuity. My husband said hes not sure what his IQ is but he is "stinkin genius." These cabins are filled with unique features you won't find anywhere else. PS anyone that gives this anything less than a 5 star rating you need to ignore because they are nit picking. You won't find a better place period. If I could give a 10 star I would because he deserves far more than is allowed. read more

Not a single bad thing to say about this place. Beautiful area, very private and Erin was very nice and helpful when we arrived. The little Hiking trails are awesome and the glen erin cabin was perfect. I've stayed in cabins in gatlinburg, hocking hills, RRG, etc. but this was by far the nicest/coolest cabin we've stayed in. We will definitely be back next fall. 10/10 read more

Great secluded cabins just like the other reviewers have said. The only reason I am deducting a star is because I felt the proprietors were a bit pushy. Val called the morning of our arrival to "make sure everything was set," then asked me to call her when we left our house (~2 hrs away) and then again when we pulled off the highway (~20 mins away). This all seemed a bit overbearing to me. After we got there Erin followed us to the cabin and went through how to operate the grill, stovetop, and hot tub (all of which were common sense, and spelled out in the handbook sitting on the counter) and then had us sign a release. Luckily, Erin and Val left the next morning to go on their own vacation, so we did not see them the rest of the weekend. The cabin itself was terrific. it had better then usual kitchen utensils, a decent size fridge and freezer, and a quaint (albeit small) stovetop. It was very secluded, we walked all the trails and did not see anybody or any other cabins. read more

This is my second year at Big Rock cabins. My friend that was with me is ready to go back, she's hooked! These are secluded cabins set in the woods, it is absolutely as private as you could get. Unless you're really loud, lol. The cabins are marvelous. The scenery is beautiful. The care of the owner is unmatched, the guy is great. I am not done going to Big Rock cabins. Erin, see you and Barkly again!! read more

We were looking for a secluded cabin to spend a few days. Well, we found our seclusion at Big Rock Cabins in a big way.... Even our GPS had issues, it took us down what it called a road. It was a far cry from a washed out path little lone a road. The directions they give you are a lot better than a GPS... Any how we found where we needed to be (middle of nowhere) without any further interesting off road adventures. We found the cabin to be exactly as described with its unique features. There are other cabins on the property, but if you stay on the marked trails you will never know they are there. If you want to unplug for couple of days including your cell phones (little to no cell service here) this place is for you. Thank you Erin and Val for a fantastic getaway. read more

This is the BEST place to escape!! We stayed in the Back Forty Cabin for our 8 yr anniversary. The cabin was unbelievable with its unique decor and beautiful very private location. Not an easy place to find but we found that to make it an even better adventure. We ran into car trouble and both Erin and Val went out of their way to help us get back on the road. We highly recommend walking the property and watching the sunset or sunrise. It's breathtaking!! We look forward to returning for another getaway soon. read more

History
Established in 2004.
We built the namesake Big Rock Cabin in 2004 using mostly materials salvaged from a Railroad Depot in Cincinnati, LOTS of re-purposed items, and no money:) People started renting it and loved it! We have since built 3 more wondrous one-of-a kind cabins. Many couples have even returned year after year to enjoy the Big Rock experience.
Meet the Business Owner: Erin H.
We started this cabin rental business as an alternative to driving 1 to 2 hours to a job in the city. We live in the middle of NOWHERE in the woods of Southern Ohio. The legendary natural monument Big Rock is on the property and makes an incredible setting for couples visiting our cabins.

YES!!! We loved EVERYTHING about this place. It was exactly what we were looking for and it was perfect! The four cabins are secluded, private and so neatly decorated. We loved the big wall of windows looking out into the woods. The birds were singing and coming to eat at a feeding station the owners keep stocked, so we got to enjoy watching lots of beautiful birds. We had total privacy here and just brought all of our own food to cook during our stay. Their sweet little dog, Barkley, escorted us around all the hiking trails, directing us where to go next and made sure we hit everything. He sat with us as we looked out over Big Rock, and after we had seen it all he took us straight back to OUR cabin! This is a very special property, you'll want to bring your camera! We stayed in the Gobbler's Knob cabin. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. You might want to check out the Leo Petroglyph during your visit, which is just 5-10 minutes from the cabins. read more

Let me start by saying Erin is an amazing host! I initially found this beautiful place by searching for "secluded couples get away". My husband and I just finished our third visit to Big Rock Cabins. It's a beautiful secluded plot of land. We've only stayed at one of the four cabins, Big Rock. The first time we fell in love. Big Rock has many charming details that were all handcrafted by the owner, Erin. I love the kitchen sink, the watering can shower, the copper faucet tubing, even the way the toilet flushes is amazing! We have had such amazing times exploring on the property, hiking, hot tubbing, and getting back to the heart of us. I can not thank Big Rock Cabins enough for building a place where couples can come together, leave technology and the outer world behind, and rediscover conversation and meaningful times, and peace. read more

About a year ago, my husband and I found this unique, and as it turns out a fabulous place for adult only getaway cabin camping!! We only booked for a two nighter but we had a most wonderful stay. Owners greeted us, and after that we saw no one . The wild life was enjoyable to watch, camp fire was so nice, we also hiked, and photographed so may nice views! It was quiet, but could play our music inside or outside for our enjoyment. Grilled out one evening, hot tub and wine for late nights. Great place, great people, not bad prices for the value!! We will go again!! Thanks Erin and val..... Jim and Carol Dean ...... read more

Don't even know where to begin.... If you come across Big Rock Cabins web page , don't go any further. Book a stay . You will not regret it. It's amazing. The wife and I are from a small suburb of Cleveland. It is so refreshing NOT to hear ambulances and very loud crotch rocket motorcycles. Once you get here , you will be tempted to throw your car keys away. We stayed at the back fourty and will book again for Octobers colors. Thank you Erin!! read more

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Big Rock Cabins. We stayed there because it's so close to Cincinnati and seemed like a great place for a socially-distanced getaway. I'm so glad we discovered this hidden jewel! The cabin was immaculate and filled with thoughtful touches. The grounds are lovely and secluded. The on-property hiking trails are well-maintained and picturesque. We are looking forward to another visit. read more
