This is our third year. The kids always have a great time. Lots of fire pits available to warm up. Making s'mores is really fun for everyone. I think we all look forward to. Good selection of food, trucks and drinks. Lots of places to take pictures. Definitely recommend. Would also recommend doing the wagon ride around the area. Very convenient. Special parking is available and makes it a very short walk to the main building and events. read more

What a gem, I accidentally stumbled on this place when looking for a stay nearby a place we'd planned to visit as a family. A couple nights "glamping" was such a fun quick way to enjoy the weekend without the extra baggage of actually camping. Beautiful grounds, you can tell they have a ton of pride in the place. The trail was a wonderful bike ride for our family, comfy cozy piece of heaven. Thanks for the fun weekend Big Rock Creek! read more
We stayed here toward the end of August for 4 nights. Our family of 5 just fit in the family cabin, and really enjoyed our time here! 3 children slept in one room with my husband and I in the other. We really loved having the lake right next to us and the porch looking right at it. Our children enjoyed the floating dock and jumping area in the lake, we did as well, but we did not swim to it - they did with lifejackets on. The water is FREEZING (even in August), but the children didn't have a problem with it. We also used the paddleboat a few times. We also took advantage of their onsite trails, and had a good adventure that ended with a ride on one of their vehicles (which my boys LOVED!). The family cabin is well stocked for a rental home - there were many kitchen items and even food items available for use. Probably, the only item I needed that I brought was the slow cooker. The staff (some live on-site and close, some don't) are really nice, friendly, and helpful! We felt at home and well cared for. read more

Big Rock Creek is an impeccable outdoor and lodging space. This family owned estate was a perfect getaway for my family. We stayed in the Glamping tents on the creek and it was a beautiful and well furnished lodge. It had everything and more you could need. It was very clean and well maintained. We also rented bikes and had a blast exploring some of their 1000 acre trails that are wide and clearly marked. The staff was very kind and accommodating. Jeremy and Katie were especially helpful and sweet. Jeremy helped me build a fire when we struggled and Katie was a gracious host when checking in and helping with rentals. Would highly recommend this lodging for those looking to be immersed in the outdoors with all the amenities that require no set up on the renters end. read more

I am writing to you in regards to our recent stay at Big Rock Creek on the weekend of October 4-6 at the Lakeview Family Tent. I am not normally one to write reviews or give feedback, but we were very disappointed with our stay at Big Rock. We spent over $700 for lackluster amenities and customer service. I want to say that your grounds are beautiful and a great idea for a family stay. However, your website is quite deceiving. There was no mention on the website or anywhere in the booking paperwork that the bathroom facilities provided were a porta potty. Paying the amount of money we did- we expected a more permanent, clean bathroom facility with running water. It wasn't until we arrived that we were informed that it would be a porta potty we would be using all weekend. We made the trek up to the barn to use the bathroom there and to be able to wash out hands only to find the floor to be covered in mud and no paper towels or toilet paper. As far as the firewood, again if we are paying over $700 for a weekend the firewood should be included in the cost of the tent rental. Having to pay extra for pretty much everything on your grounds (including firewood) was ridiculous and we decided to just forgo any extra activities due to the expensive price. We went for a relaxing family weekend, getting to see the Christmas lights everywhere at night was nice- however it was loud and intrusive during the day. The entire evening on Friday and the entire day on Saturday there was a crew of men working right outside our ten with a lift hanging lights. We were parked on the side of the tent and they were right next to our car. Listening to the lift going up and down all day along with the ATVs driving back and forth in front of the tent causing dust to fly up each time was not exactly relaxing. We felt this was quite rude honestly. I am not sure why this work needed to be done during the weekend when you had guests using the tent. We ended up leaving for the last part of the day because of the noise right next to the tent and the constant traffic of workers coming and going. I understand a cleaning charge as you have to wash linens, etc. But to be quite honest, the tent was not exactly clean when we arrived. There were stains all over the couch, leaves and pine needles all over the flooring inside the tent, it appeared it hadn't been swept or cleaned. The coffee maker had built up grime and grounds left in it. There were no garbage bags to use in the bins. It wasn't exactly clean and presentable. Overall, our stay was quite disappointing. Up at the Barn, there really wasn't much to see or do, using a porta potty all weekend was disgusting, and the crew right next to the tent all weekend was noisy and intrusive. This short weekend stay was not worth the money we spent. We really looked forward to our stay there and it was nothing as portrayed on your website. read more

We stayed for a winter getaway and really enjoyed our time. This is a family run business and everyone we encountered was really nice. There was ample places to snowshoe but they even had some trails plowed so you could just walk them so it was really nice. Very close to Trollhaugen too so it was a nice winter getaway! Thanks Brad and Katie! We will be back! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in one of their new "glamp"tents after my best friend's wedding. It couldn't have been more convenient! Just up the small hill from the barn where the reception was held. It had everything we could want and more..comfortable mattress, cute chic design, keurig with cups, even a dyson space heater! There was a porta pot right outside the campsite but they could use a bigger shower/bathroom facility. The only shower offered was inside someone's private camper. The hosts were very hospitable, they provided us with golf cart rides to drop off our bags and to the shower trailer. They left a cooler filled with water which was much needed after a night of fun! The only criticism is they could use better/more lighting inside the glamp tent. However, they have a full grill and picnic table if you were having a BBQ! read more

History
Established in 1914.
Purchased around 1914 by a group of businessmen (including the likes of Horace "Gokey" Thompson, Allan Siems, and Claude Siems), and held Trout Farm license #10 in the state of Wisconsin. The trout living in Big Rock Creek supply many of the streams that are so popular out west! Big Rock Creek began with the upper echelons of America who built the US railroads, started the oil companies, defined the separate states; amongst more businessmen coming together to be surrounded by other elite leaders. In 1886, they named it "Big Rock Creek Trout Club." In the early 1920's the Siems brothers were building what would become historic railroads with James J. Hill. In 1929, the SD DNR purchased 500,000 rainbow trout eggs from Big Rock Creek Trout Club. Imagine all the dignitaries that may have visited the property over the course of time! If these walls could talk, can you imagine the story they would tell?!

I have been to many other Holiday light venues over the years, and me and my family decided to go Miracle at Big Rock Creek this year. This experience was by far my favorite! The venue is neat and clean with so much to do! Drive or walk light tour options, food trucks, venders, picture opportunities, s'more tents, treats and food and VR sleight ride! I was beyond impressed with the polite and helpful staff, they felt like old friends! The service was excellent! if you are looking for an affordable holiday fun event go here! I would highly recommend it!!! We will be coming back! read more

I stayed here in the winter and just this spring and my family had a blast! We stayed in the beautiful family cabin the first time and the larger clubhouse cabin the second time. The staff is amazing and so helpful, the property is breathtaking and the memories we made will last forever. We will absolutely be making this an annual trip! read more
