The Shiloh Conservation Area is an unexpected bonus in an area in which there is a much recent…read moredevelopment. It's a chance to get outside and enjoy nature without traveling far. As you walk along the path, there are signs describing what the conservation area does and the flora and fauna you might see. It's an easy walk, the paths are paved, the signs easy to read, and despite being close to a main road, it's quiet. While there are walking access points at the nearby apartments and businesses, there's also entrance off Shiloh near the Knife River business. It seems to be popular for families with kids and dogs or both, and people who like to fish. I've seen plenty of all of them. There's no seating or picnic tables, or the like, so it's a place to keep you moving (except maybe if you're fishing). You never know what you'll see around the next curve in the path, and that's not a bad thing.

I have been in both the billings and Missoula shop and have found that the people who were staffing the stores were not knowledgeable about their products. I also signed up to take the advanced open water certification course with this shop and was disappointed in the lack of organization and communication by the owner. He signed up too many people for the weekend courses and did not finish any of the advanced open water certifications. After we all drove to Utah and got hotels... There was quite a bit of attitude from the owner as well. I'm sure they have great products and I'm sure other people have had better experiences. But this was my experience and I felt that it was important to share.

The trail is very steep for the first half…read moremile or so as you head to the top of the Rimrocks, but once you're up, it's all flat and some gorgeous scenery. There are two different loops you can take at the top, and it you do both, the total distance is 3 miles round-trip. The trail is easy to find and follow, great for novice hikers and kids as long as you have the endurance to get to the top. Take a picnic to the top! Lots of great spots to see below to town and out to the mountains. Some shaded areas too. Dogs on leashes are permitted. I did not see any restrooms, or picnic tables. There is also a disc golf course here too; I don't know anything about disc golf, but some of the baskets were in very challenging spots!

Once you get on the plateau it's a very easy walk from there back to the bottom. Some incredible views with a very nice breeze blowing. It was 100° when we went but still very pleasant due to the low humidity and the cost of breeze. Not a busy trail, we only encountered a few people when we were there. They call it a Park, and I suppose with a couple of picnic tables in the shelter and the "necessary" building, it is a park, but not one that encourages long-term lounging. There's something about this spot that makes you want to walk, or run, or meander. Here, on top of the rimrocks, either direction, there's an impressive view of the City continuing all the way over to the Beartooth Mountains. It's a park that's also the trailhead for further exploration. Along the route there is an occasional bench upon which to sit and look at the sunset, or the sunrise, or the clouds moving over the mountains. The path is wide enough to accommodate walkers, joggers, and bikers in both directions. It's ADA accessible. But, come back to the Park to take a break, or have that picnic, or just stand around and chat with friends. You can't lose with the view.

The lifeguards are pretty attentive so I feel ok about sending my 9 year old to play while watching my 3 year old in the shallow area. Main complaint is the yellow jackets.
