I spent many summer nights here through July & August last year - so to come here in the deep of winter & see the transformation from a summer waterpark over to a semi enclosed outdoor winter ice skating rink is like - WHOA! Now how cool is that!?! I have to start off by saying - you must go to my 'Shipyards Night Market' review & read it & view the pics I dumped in the 'Business Section!!!' A must do before continuing with this review - trust me! Anyway here goes - so I came over to North Vancouver to check out the opening of Joey Shipyards (that review coming soon) - new restaurant. But I found myself wondering all over here in awe of everything I was seeing & coming across! What a great environment & fun for families as well. I need to come back when I have more time - before winters end! Everyone's out skating & having fun - why not life is too short! There's lots of coffee shops & restaurants surrounding the Shipyards Commons - so do not worry at all about food! Please check the operational hours online when you're heading over & plan accordingly for hours of fun & exploration throughout this whole area!!! Nikes, Pumas, Adidas or Balenciaga (but please people - not the Herman Munster version!) - are mandatory footwear! Hey - I won't hate you if you're wearing Skechers! LOL! No heals ladies - unless you've got backup slippers! It's all tough hard ankle twisting concrete around here! Come on down & have a blast of a time!

I will. I noticed this park when I was coming across the bridge, crossing the Skagit River. I made a mental note to stop on the way back because it looked like a cool spot. The first thing that was very striking to me was that at 4PM, there were no children playing at the park. I found it very strange to see that my little one was the only one enjoying this park on a beautiful spring day. In the time we were there, two other children came by but that's it. The next thing I noticed was a lack of adequate parking. However, if the park doesn't get much use, they don't need very many spots or perhaps people walk more than they drive in Mount Vernon. The park had the right balance of green grass and trees. I would love to read a book here or run around with my child. I think the best parks have a little something for everyone. The play structures (2 of them) were a mix of modern and retro. The one for the toddlers seemed to be made of plastic that was faded from the afternoon sun. The other one, seemed more modern, with various slides, bars, and levels for even the most active kids. The restrooms are very clean and well kept. I don't know if it's always that way or if no one ever uses them. Regardless, I appreciated bathroom stalls with doors and amenities that were well stocked with supplies. I never saw the boat launch, but I'm positive I didn't make it through the entire 54 acres. I did see a fantastic stage; I would love to see an event there. I found this to be a nice park. I'm not sure why people weren't enjoying it or if they ever do. However, I'd be happy to swing by on any visit to Mount Vernon.

And, They were on the other side. Apparently, I entered from one side of the park which has no secure parking spot because it's just outside of the baseball field. I turned around and drove to the other side and met up my friends in front of the public bathroom. The park is within a mile away from Mount Vernon. It looks it's very well maintained. But, the parking area has a lot of gravel. It's also within a mile away from Roosen Garden, the tulip farm. Riding a bike is definitely an advantage beating all the traffic. I am glad that my friend mapped Roosen Garden in part of the 75 miles ride. I believe this is what locals take their kids and family for a nice sunny day. The end of the ride, there were a lot of kids and families out there having picnic or playing.

Nice new park in SE Burnaby…read more Parking is available in the side streets. Plenty of spots (perpendicular parking) around the outer perimeter, but it does get quite busy during the summer months. There is a nice large playground in the middle of the park. The place is padded with some kind of spongy rubber compound instead of old school woodchips. Kids will never know what it feels like to fall and get 50 splinters in one's hands. They have it easy. There's also a water park with a giant bucket that tips over periodically and dumps a whole pile of water on people below. Actually pretty cool to look at. Reminds me of those drinking bird toys. Great place to hold gatherings. Oh yeah, there are some nice paths running along the length of the park, as well as some nice shelters in the picnic area. The grass is well maintained too.

As well there is a giant kids water play area. The day we went it was super sunny and busy. We were one of the groups having our BBQ. I really like this park. It is close to the skytrain (about 5 blocks away) or you can take a bus that would stop right in front. The park is definitely well maintained. No garbage laying around. Because it is right beside the community center, no need to worry about dirty outhouses or public outdoor park washrooms.

It's not ideal for toddlers because it's very busy and some of the older kids run into the littler ones. It happens. There's a small water park area. Where most of the folks are in holiday feasting mode. The park boasts a fairly long trail connecting Lougheed Highway to Port Coquitlam. A river with salmon connects to Gates Park. In the autumn, a few try their luck fishing. Frankly I haven't seen anyone catch anything or whether they have to toss it back? At least it seems like a time passing activity, requiring some self detachment. In the summer, the main play area is filled with young couples and children. In winter, you can find a few restless with their sleeping bags. The park is generally well maintained. Good for a long stroll or connecting to mother nature. Great park in the city.
