If you bring binoculars, you can see where the seals haul out of the water to rest on land. There's a playground with many activities for children: swing sets, slides, stuff to climb on, sand box, and more. There's a row of all-gender washrooms nearby too. Picnic tables are in abundance, as well as benches to enjoy the view. There are also grassy areas if you want to play some ball. Across the street are a bunch of restaurants and shops, so you can browse at your leisure. I love it when parks are so integrated into the city, so you can spend a whole day here looking around.

Trees and lakes keep the air fresh, the noise pollution down and makes you feel like you escaped the city without leaving town. Plenty of people were enjoying the 69 degree weather. Some lounging in their lawn chairs, walking the dogs on the trail or canoeing on the lake. The boardwalk is especially nice for walking, for the structural metal strips keep it bike-free and peaceful. Meanwhile, there are many scenic trails through the trees that cyclists can enjoy. We completed the one hour/2.6 mile loop trail around the lake passing gorgeous heritage homes, a wedding taking place on the festival lawn and people fishing off the docks. Next time, I'm renting a canoe or kayak from the Deer Lake Boat rentals to see the park from a different perspective. Bonus:Parking and the views are free!

On a clear sunny day, this place beats any other concert venue: it's large enough for concert goers of all types to enjoy. You could easily make your way up to get close to the stage, or you could sit down on the lawn and listen to the tunes. Since the lawn tilts at an angle, it's easy to see the stage from almost anywhere, even if you're really far back. There are also a lot of food trucks to get food or drinks from, and there's a water station where you could fill up your water bottle. The only downside of this venue is that it's not very easily accessible by transit and parking is limited on a busy concert evening.

Oh & in regards to the beach - do come check out Spanish Banks Beach - an awesome stretched out sandy beach that is a delight to walk on - very soft sand. Lots of activity here in the summer time but with plenty of chill out sections if you need to escape. Excellent views of the mountains & the Burrard Inlet area aka the beach. I also like the fact that because this beach is laid out in an east/west direction facing the ocean - there is usually a slight breeze aka prevailing winds - to cool you down on those hot afternoons. Side note - if you're meeting friends here, make sure you have coordinated a meeting spot before you arrive here!!! This beach is long & has 3 sections! It was funny watching a couple trying to help their friends reach them - it took 30 minutes!!! Better yet use - Google Maps!!! Trust me! Plenty of parking available & still free! This beach gets super packed in the summer! One big note - I highly recommend you come here early in the morning & walk out on the beach towards the massive ships. The low tide allows for this! As you go forward, it seems as though you can almost walk right up to them - reach out & touch ... ! It's a cool feeling! On another note, this beach is slightly rocky (like most west coast beaches) at the point where the ocean laps the shoreline. Folks this beach like many on the west coast, is not like the beaches in the Caribbean or Hawaii!!! So don't show up expecting to swim with the dolphins & turtles - it's not that kind of warm crystal clear blue water! By the way, you do not have to speak Spanish (we'll see how many catch that one LMAO) to come to this beach! The shops around the area are small boutiques stores and all of them excell in what they serve. Food, ice cream , cloths and everything in between is sold in these shops. There is kayak and boat rental as well . Once I tried kayaking which can be scary for people who try for the first time but it's worth the adrenaline rush. I like this place even with the hustle and bustle of friends and family on a weekend.

If you love dreamy sunsets and glowing city views, Harbour Creek Park has tons of it. I took a stroll through this park after having dinner nearby, and it was the perfect way to close out the evening. The park has a good amount of green space but it's close enough to the city to feel like you're still within reach. The walking trails hug the bay and expose you to beautiful views of the Vancouver Harbour. It's also safe to navigate during the day or night. I passed by lots of dog walkers and runners while I strolled through this little park. It's a local's gem for sure. It's fun seeing all of the seaplanes and the boats docked at the marina too. And of course, the Vancouver skyline just can't be beat here. It's truly stunning. The location is prime since it's located just a short distance from Canada Place. The peacefulness is what attracted me. Even in a large city like Vancouver, it's nice to know that such a lovely park can offer solace with such breathtaking views.

An unexpectedly cancelled meeting at the convention centre today rendered me a walk through…read moreGastown. By the time I reached the eastern edge at Alibi Room, I was going to turnaround until I saw a sign that said CRAB Park at Portside perched on the light pole at Alexander and Main. I remember reading about this area used to be called luk'luk'i by the Coast Salish peoples so I decided to take a detour see what it was like. It is a gem off the beaten path. The easiest (perhaps the only) way to get to the park is by the overpass at the north end of Main at Alexander. The overpass is also wheel-friendly. It has a huge off-leash area (though not fenced and I don't still don't understand how you can have a off-leash dog area with no fence but I don't want to digress into civic issues), a foot path along the water and even a beach! The view is absolutely gorgeous. Although you won't get a wide span view of downtown as you would from Spanish Bank, the south side of False Creek or Lonsdale Quay, the park renders you proximity to the building. The new Woodwards towers, Harbour Centre, Canada Place, Burrard Inlet and the cranes at the port are right there in front of you. When I was there during the day on a weekday around lunch time, there were only a handful of park visitors: nearby workers taking a lunch time stroll, neighbours walking their canine companions, retirees and those fortunate or unfortunate ones who do not work. It is a perfect alternative resting spot for a picnic on the weekends if you are riding your bikes but want to avoid Stanley Park crowded with tourists. I would image the view of downtown at night would be fantastic due to the proximity but I haven't been there at night. I would probably do a drive by with my car to check out how safe the park is at night before recommending anyone venturing out there on foot for a romantic walk after dinner in Gastown. It is, after all only a few blocks away from the most interesting spot in Vancouver according to Renee Zellweger (so she claimed on Regis and Kelly) - Main & Hastings.

After 7 years of using this park, it's really sad that I no longer feel like it is healthy or safe because of the obnoxious, psychotic people that are ruining it.
