We loved our stay here. We had the lodge with a gas fireplace and the kitchen. The lodges are very spacious. They strike a nice balance of rustic and remodeled in the interior. I was surprised at the quality of the kitchen - you can definitely cook a full meal and bake some cookies in there. The main lodge is super cozy and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you want a bite to eat somewhere else there are a few surrounding restaurants. Or of course, bring your own ingredients to cook with. Staff are very accomodating. The best part - is the amount of beautiful hiking trails that are around the cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here :)

This place is zero frills. Go into it knowing that and I think expectations won't exceed reality. It's funny, I went into it knowing that but after looking the website I thought, oh maybe it'll be better than I thought?! Nope, lol, I was right the first time. We checked in, our cabin was ready so we were ready to get settled. The room has a small fridge, a couch and coffee table/ottoman, bed (or course) desk and chair, nightstands, and rack to put luggage on. There was a box fan which was helpful because the room felt like it got stuffy each day by midday. There is a skylight in the room which is pretty nice to give natural light and add to the vibes of being in the park under the trees. It's cool that the lodge is in Pfeiffer state park. It is walkable to several trails right out your door. I actually loved that in the cabins there is no cell service so you can truly unplug. If you need service there is a business center near the pool or in the lobby. The store on site is really nice. A good mix of fun souvenirs and nice little market for snacks, staples, etc. Restaurant is also on site, we had dinner one of the nights. It was fine and about what I expected, but it's not killing it, lol. Be prepared to be eaten alive by mosquitoes if you are prone to that. After dinner I felt like I was dinner for them! lol I loved the location, it was comfortable, but for the price I'd have loved just a bit more in the room. I would stay there again though, so there's that.

It's our 2 years wedding anniversary. We're always here at big sur. We always stay at the campground where my in-laws are the camp hosts, but this is the first time we stayed at big sur lodge. The room is cozy with dining room, living room and kitchen, you have access to a fridge, stove and microwave. Only thing is no TV. Their purpose is you to be with nature and focus with the family, which i like. If you want to get out of the civilization and forget about things, this is the place you can go. Whether you want to camp or hotel, this is your place. So much stuff to see..

This spot was a nifty little stop for food, restroom, gifts/souvenirs about an hour south of Monterey. It's literally off the scenic Pacific Coast Highway - turn at Pfeiffer Big Sur Road - and follow the signs to the lodge. The good and the bad I guess is that it's a shared lot - for both hotel guests and visitors - I actually had to circle the lot a few times when I realized even the farthest out spots were taken. Connected to the lodge is a bit of a cafe (I didn't eat anything here since I had a full lunch before leaving Monterey), gift shop (picked up lots of unique souvenirs here), and a rustic-like lounge area - complete with a Tic-Tac-Toe tabletop game. Prices for food, souvenirs were reasonable considering the tourist-heavy area. Cell reception was a bit bleak - but that's understandable, considering where you are. Nearby are one of the few gas stations in the area - so make sure to top off your tank before continuing on your adventure!

This review is for the store in the lodge; it's one of the best as far as Big Sur items, with great hats, shirts and sweatshirts, as well as basic camping items and amazing books for camping, hiking, etc. And we can't rave enough about the woman working in the store when we were there; she had the best personality and knew exactly how to engage with each customer. We were in there a while looking around and noticed how great she was with everyone who came through... top notch customer service, and a 10/10 personality. I didn't get her name, but she was in there yesterday around 5pm. We also grabbed an iced coffee at the coffee shop inside, and the person there who helped us was super kind as well; loved the cold brew too!

Ordered our food 10 minutes ago. No one picked up the plates from the previous customers.

Terrible customer sevice. You need to self service your food. You can only pick up the menu on the counter and then look at it and order. Which delays the order process. They could easily hang it somewhere else (ok spreadable way) that you can see the options while waiting for your order (which was 10 minutes for us). Then you go and sit yourself. All (not exaggerating) the tables had piles of dirty plates from previous customers. Gross. We picked a table and set staring at the dirty plates for 15 minutes. A waiter finally came and started cleaning the plates one by one. Starting from tables that there were no customers (all while we were staring at the mess on our tables). I had to ask the waiter to maybe clean ours first (instead of going with a sequential order). I mean which other waiter would do that? If there are customers who sat on a table, you need to make sure they are taken care of first. You don't need to be genius to think about that. And the to top that, when we finished our food, there were still some left over plates from previous customers on our table. Cause after I asked, our waiter cleaned some of them but not all . It was surreal. Definitely understaffed. Won't visit again. Food was mediocre the best as well.

Very neglected outdated rooms. All the caulking and trims were rotten in bathroom Wall heater is so loud nobody could sleep, every 20 minutes it would have this real loud bang extremely loud and woke me up every 20 minutes.!!! Upon entry noticed a big black widow in the bathroom window. My oldest son had to take the fold out couch, which was miserable super thin mattress. He said he could fill every spring I didn't take enough pictures, but it was bad. Luckily we walked in to check out the dinner menu and they told us we were closing in one hour. I believe there is two fireplaces, but none were lit. Nothing to make it even somewhat inviting.!? No communication before we arrived which we booked for two nights they were closed the first night as they had no power. So we would've had nowhere else to eat as there is nowhere else to eat for miles!!! I have to say the staff was not that friendly very helpful! Every time I walked in the building, they looked like they were annoyed that we were even there. We were the only ones in the building for dinner, which is always scary.!!!! Dinner was great. My wife had the salmon salad salmon was cooked perfect We were the only ones in the whole building as they were having a staff holiday party that night.

Pros: 1 - The staff were pleasant and helpful. 2 - The location of the rustic lodge is beautiful. Huge, gorgeous redwoods, nearby hiking trails to Pfeiffer Falls, Valley View overlook, swimming holes and The Gorge. Cons: 1- Our cottage. Room was extremely dirty. Carpet and furniture were full of stains, and likely hadn't been cleaned in years (toenail clippings found on carpet). Walls, especially around the switch plates and doorknobs were filthy. Shower water varied between freezing cold or scalding hot. There were holes in the window screens that allowed insects to get in. We were not expecting luxury accommodations, however, the level of uncleanliness was not at all what we anticipated. We made reservations for two nights but ended up only staying one night.

Check in is 4pm. I lost signal after the Bixby bridge but since it's just all on CA 1, I just look for the signs. Also my gps still showing where I am so I was able to see where it was. Free pass for the 3 parks. Going to the cabin was near by but it was super narrow! One car at a time going in and out. Place was spacious and clean. Sad I don't have signal or WiFi. I was too far from their WiFi to reach. I have to go near the conference center to get WiFi. Pfeiffer Beach is near by. It's super narrow road too. Their restaurant at the lodge is good.

I knew that going in. It was still starker than I expected. Start with the property. When that is the view off your deck, why go anywhere else? Stunning doesn't cover it. We hiked much of the grounds and every turn delivered something new. The kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. Then the restaurant. Everything was perfect -- service, quality, execution. Much of the food sourced on property or from the surrounding community. My wife declared the salad the best she'd ever had. High praise for a salad. High praise, full stop. Special shout out to our server Yasmany and bartender Thomas -- both exceptional. What struck me most was how effortless the entire staff made it look. These are people who deal with guests from around the world, all arriving with high expectations of a high-end experience. And yet nothing felt forced. Nobody appeared to be trying to impress us. It was just perfect service, perfectly delivered. That's the rarest thing in hospitality. Highlight of the trip. Hands down. And I suspect, never to be repeated.

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION -- IT MAY SAVE YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS…read more If you are considering booking an ocean-view room at Post Ranch Inn between May, June, July, or August, I strongly encourage you to do extensive research about Big Sur's seasonal coastal fog before spending your money. Based on our experience, I would never book an ocean-view room during these months again. We paid nearly $10,000 for two nights in one of the resort's premium ocean-view accommodations because the breathtaking ocean views shown throughout their website were the main reason we chose this property. Unfortunately, during our entire stay, the ocean view was completely hidden by dense fog. We never saw the spectacular view that was advertised and pictured online. What disappointed us most was the lack of transparency. The website showcases beautiful, clear ocean views but does not adequately prepare guests for the possibility that the view may be completely obstructed for an entire stay during certain times of the year. If guests are paying thousands of dollars specifically for an ocean-view room, they deserve clear information about the seasonal risk of persistent coastal fog so they can make an informed decision. Throughout our stay, we repeatedly asked staff whether the fog would clear. We were consistently told that it would likely clear within a few hours. Unfortunately, that never happened. The fog remained throughout our stay, and we never got to enjoy the ocean view we paid a premium for. What made this even more frustrating was that, after repeatedly being told by multiple staff members that the fog would clear soon, one employee later told us that they were not supposed to tell guests that the weather was expected to remain the same for several days and that these foggy conditions are common during this time of year. According to that employee, this type of weather often persists throughout much of the summer season. I cannot independently verify that statement, but if that information was accurate, it raises serious concerns about transparency. Guests spending thousands of dollars for an ocean-view room deserve honest information about the likelihood of actually seeing the ocean during their stay. The room itself also had maintenance issues. The bar sink was clogged, and the shower valve/faucet was loose and repeatedly fell while being used. We reported both problems, but neither was repaired during our stay. Staff apologized, but no one came to address the issues. For a property charging close to $5,000 per night, I expected much better communication, transparency, maintenance, and overall value. I fully understand that the weather is beyond the hotel's control. However, what is within their control is how honestly they communicate the risk of seasonal fog to potential guests. Had we known there was a realistic possibility of spending our entire stay looking at a wall of fog instead of the Pacific Ocean, we would have chosen different travel dates, a different room category, or a different destination altogether. The property itself is beautiful, but based on our experience, the value did not come close to justifying the cost. If an ocean view is important to you, think very carefully before booking an ocean-view room during the late spring and summer months.

That evening we sat by the fire, roasting marshmallows and sipping champagne while listening to the water and looking up at the redwood trees. It was just so magical. One detail I especially loved was the heated bathroom floors--such a cozy surprise and something I'm definitely not used to! The entire cabin was spotless and beautifully maintained. I'm very particular about cleanliness in hotels so I brought my mattress vacuum cleaner to inspect--the bed and pillows were not dusty, which gave me a peace of mind. Overall, our stay was perfectly the way I want to remember this trip. If I had stayed somewhere else, I don't think I would have had a great of an experience in Big Sur. Ambience and the aesthetics of the property grounds is important to me and it checked off all the boxes.
